Sarah Jessica Parker is finally utilizing her fashion insider’s access, not to mention stylistic prowess, to launch a new clothing line called Bitten, The Daily has learned. The fashion chameleon, known for the savvy manner in which she wears everything from Temperley and Giambattista Valli to Balenciaga and Gucci, is hosting two seated luncheons tomorrow at Indochine for an exclusive group of editors, where she will present a private viewing of her new line. Details on the collection, including price point, target audience, and manufacturer, remain tight-lipped, but many insiders are already comparing it to The Row, the fashion line developed by the Olsen twins. SJP, who turns 42 in two weeks, is, of course, no stranger to the fashion world, having accompanied Alexander McQueen to last year’s Costume Institute gala and been a muse to Oscar de la Renta and Narciso Rodriguez. Parker was also the recipient of the Fashion Icon Award at the CFDA Fashion Awards in 2004.

God, it is on days like these that i want to quit being a designer....................

hollywood is turning all of it's stars into little moguls. everyone has to be a complete brand. mary-kate and ashley, hilary duff, beyonce.. even raven has her own perfume. sjp does have a rep for having a good sense of fashion, and this line will probably speak to a lot of people, especially her followers, but i'm sick of not being able to see the distinction line between actors, singers, designers, etc.

Haha, I love how they justify her 'stylistic prowess' with the fact she attended an event with McQueen... look out world!

I like SJP though, I must admit, so it will be interesting to see what she comes up with.

However if I were a fashion designer myself I'd be feeling a little miffed right now about the power of celebrity, and how it seems everyone is trying their hand at 'producing' a collection.

i don't think sjp is that chic...it was obviously all patricia field's styling and carrie's image...imo what sjp wore on her own to alot of events was downright fugly.

i remember WWD quoting some celeb a few months ago as having said that "i resent fashion. why do i have to dress up just because i'm an actress? as far as i'm concerned, fashion basically hijacked the entertainment industry." hahahahaha.

oh brother. for sure it is a mutually parasitic relationship, altho on the whole, the celebs are definitely getting their cake and eating it too, what with the free gowns, jewelry, being paid to wear this or that, and AT THE SAME TIME, starting their own perfume and california t-shirt lines.

my gawd, i mean even the olsens fell prey to the label fever. the day that simon cowell starts his own line, i will officially throw in the towel and wear only bad jeans with tight grey tshirts from the gap with no bra.

well the problem here is that she will come up with nothing, she is not a designer, neither are the dozens of celebrities who are scamming people by trying to convince them that they are sitting down and designing clothes.'
they know nothing about fabric, cut fit , colour nothing.......... On top of that they are beginning to giive people the impression that you can just wake up one morning and suddenly become a designer, without any knowledge or training whatsoever............
if they were so much designers..... why do they have stylists of which some are as clueless as themselves.........
I have some degree of respect for someone like P.DIddy (as a supporter of the industry and not necessarily as a designer), although his motives are questionable, and Zac Posen probably didnt need the money, at least he bought a stake in the company and provided financing for Zac
would it not be better if they were investing in struggling designers? (cloak etc)

These people like SJP, seem to have an insatiable craving to dominate peoples lives............. they want to be on your TV they want to sell you paint to paint your house, they want to sell you sheets for your bed, give you children's books for your kids, and sell you the clothes to wear.
what part of your life will they not try to invade...................
At least God himself gives us some pricvacy....................

also, a lot of designers are to be blamed for this kind of mess, as they were the ones long ago (some of them as untalented as these celebrities) who began inviting these people to shows, asking them advice about clothing, and calling them muses, and speaking crap about being inspired by their "sense of style"
now "everything as come back to roost"

^^what you say is all true. however, the celebs definitely are making money (even if they spend all of it), whereas the designers rarely ever do. so i think one is definitely a better milkmaid, while the other one will always be the cow.

I think SJP has a strong work ethic. she also has a big following among women in their late teens and 20's. i hope the line will be directed at them.

i like her perfume for coty. and i think she has taste. im looking forward to seeing what she comes up with.

I feel sad for her...
I mean this kind of stuff really destroys my respect for her
love her acting, I think she is so fabulous doing Carrie, and everything, I still keep watching sex and the city all the time, and I love her face, how she express, etc
I don't really know what is she doing with this? why doesn't she support fashion in some other way?
It's true that this celebs doesn't know anything about fabrics, or machines, or constructing, about dying fabrics, or techniques...
I repeat I had no respect for these ppl

i think its a bad move it just cheapens her whole public image just because your into fashion does not mean you need a line to prove it

As much as I love SJP in SATC (or actually I just probably love the writing and the styling of patricia field)..I am just sick of half ***ed designer lines, simply done because they have the opportunity and a 'passion for fashion' ... always ends up looking like a ripoff of another designer anyway

yeah i don't understand what warrants her designing a line (like sienna miller). sure her outfits are 'fashionable' (with the help of others). hmm
but anyway it's obviously something she wants to do and others will buy so good luck to her

I wish she had chosen another name. Bitten would be great for a perfume i'm not crazy about it for clothing. Anyway i'm interested. I think The Row comparisons are interesting esp. since The Row I would say is looking to be the first critically successful line to come from celebrities. I don't know why people say celebrities don't know about cut and fabrics. I would say that is the one thing they DO know about since they wear clothes more than the average person and have to have an absolute keen awareness of what looks good and is flattering above all else. That said, it doesn't make them good at design and techniques. But are people really looking for a technically accomplished line? Not all lines from 'real' designers are technically accomplished. Some are what they are and all designers are supported by people. So anyway i'm keeping an open mind.

^ I completely agree. Initially, when I saw the name of this thread, I thought 'wow, what a lovely perfume name"

It just doesn't suit a clothing line.

yeah but you have to realise also, that she is a puppet in her knowledge. the way she's always been and being lead by stylists, designers and magazing editors. and as somebody mentioned, before Pat Field, the woman was absolutely disasterous. so i don't think she's actually gifted in the skill of design. i think she would be more in the vein of a stylist perhaps but designer is far-fetched to attach to her and to any of these people, really.

but the main problem about it is,is that the prominence of high-profile celebs(who are merely people who don designer clothes)it's actually pushing alot of talents back that are already not being focused on farther into the depths of obscurity. really talented designers. pure designers. especially,in America where,so many publications are already ignoring so many,we have to endure yet another celebrity name in this industry.
