Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

well i don't think celebrity clothing actually gets featured in magazines more than a rare handful of times. and the people who do fund them aren't people who would fund 'real talent' anyway so i while i understand i don't think it's sucking away funds as much as people claim. I do think after 10 years of being heavily styled and involved with dressing yourself you do understand some things. No different than I understand what fabrics and cuts work on my body shape. Of course this doesn't make me a designer but lots of designers lack didn't complete schooling either so.....like i said. I'm not saying it's going to be good or great or anything but some of people's arguments I disagree with

I always thought this would happen, it was just a matter of time. hmm, guess we'll just have to wait it out & see.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!
this has gotten out of control!
Why does everyone want to be a fashion designer?
its getting so passe.

hollywood is turning all of it's stars into little moguls. everyone has to be a complete brand. mary-kate and ashley, hilary duff, beyonce.. even raven has her own perfume. sjp does have a rep for having a good sense of fashion, and this line will probably speak to a lot of people, especially her followers, but i'm sick of not being able to see the distinction line between actors, singers, designers, etc.

I dont see why people cant try to explore new venues.. nobody is a born actor or singer or whatever... i think people should try different things if they desire too... i see no harm in that.

the question is not about whether or not people can try new ventures.........
It is about whether an individual doing something has the natural gifts and abilities (or atleast the committment to develop them ) for a specific venture.
there is only 24 hours in a day, and regardless of how talented you are there is only so much that you can do., also if you are going to do anything well, it requires spending the time and being dedicated to get results at a high standard.
this woman is an actress, she is not a designer, I guarantee to you that she is not going to do fabric research, she will not attempt to build up a specific brand identity, she knows nothing about what techniques (in terms of cut and construction) yield certain results, or even what fabrications are best suited for a certain kind of garment.........
the big problem is that they come on television and in the news media, and lie to the public, and they are supported in doing that ..........
she will be relying on a bunch of people to get this done , for which the credit will go to her, not the people doing the actual work.
therefore the goal is not to become a designer per se, but simply use this as another tool to keep her names in the press...................

Carrie Bradshaw has nice style, but Sarah Jessica Parker does not, to me, represent style.

^^what you say is all true. however, the celebs definitely are making money (even if they spend all of it), whereas the designers rarely ever do. so i think one is definitely a better milkmaid, while the other one will always be the cow.

also because, most of the time, their stuff is mass produced and in macys/dillards, not luxe high end.

I feel sad for her...
I mean this kind of stuff really destroys my respect for her
love her acting, I think she is so fabulous doing Carrie, and everything, I still keep watching sex and the city all the time, and I love her face, how she express, etc
I don't really know what is she doing with this? why doesn't she support fashion in some other way?
It's true that this celebs doesn't know anything about fabrics, or machines, or constructing, about dying fabrics, or techniques...
I repeat I had no respect for these ppl

do you believe that creative directors at major houses know much about any of that either? or if they do know anything about it, do you really think that they have anything to do with the process beyond launching an initial story/theme? We give celebs a bad rap for not truly designing, but a lot of designers do not even design. at some point they are all just signing their name on something...

This decision is coming a few years too late in my opinion. SJP should have done a fashion line right after "Sex & The City" went off the air, before so many of these other celebrity "designers" started: Jessica Simpson, J.Lo, Sienna Miller, Nicky Hilton, etc. Now everyone and their mom has a fashion line!

Though I must say, out of all of the celebrity "designers", SJP is probably the most credible of the bunch... But still... :innocent:

What CREDENTIALS does she have, that makes her the "MOST CREDIBLE"

^ Well that's just my opinion... SJP, over most of the other celebrity "designers", is at least respected by the fashion world, thanks to "Sex & The City". Nicky Hilton, Jessica Simpson, etc don't really have that respect from the fashion world, because their lives aren't about fashion - they're about their music careers, or acting careers, or just being famous because they are famous. SJP at least lived in the world of fashion for years on her TV show, surrounded by designers. She lived in that world, even if she was just playing a character on a TV show. I personally just think she is more credible because of this than, say, Jessica Simpson, who sings and acts but doesn't really live surrounded by designers all the time.

It's ok if you disagree with me, but it's just my opinion...

When I first saw the title of this thread I thought she'd gone rabid and attacked someone.

well , indeed you are entitled to your opinion.
and yes i surely diagree with you,
but then yuo said she was respected by the fashion world.
how so?
do you think that the designers who dressed her are now singing praises that she is doing a clothing collection?
and if you are going to talk About Sex and the City. It was Pat Fields who did the costumes and the Styling (of which in somes circles it is argued that before Pat Filelds SJP was a very tacky dresser).
so if any credit is to be given, it should go to Pat Feilds..........
who as a matter of fact, does have a clothing (house of Feilds)label, but hires a real designer (David Dalrymple) to design the clothes!!!!!!!!!

^ I doubt that the designers are singing her praises, but I just simply think that SJP is probably more respected by designers than Jessica Simpson. My comments by no means are saying that SJP is God's gift to the fashion world. I'm just not going to write her off just yet.

her line will be scrutinized just like any other celebs' clothing line. much more than any "real" designer.
therefore, time will show how it does but i have a feeling it will do well...

interesting! I thought that when the show (sex and the city) ended she was going to do sth like this (maybe like other celebs: justin timberlake, jessica simpson and so on, who just put their names on the line and not that much) but it seems that she´s been working on it for a while ago and she is taking seriously and if it´s comparing with the Row (that´working good) i´m interested and curious about the result... i´m wondering who (designer) has helped her to develope the line.

exactly leyla and mjcouture. Yes i feel for struggling designers. But every major house has a TEAM of people who pull together fabrics, construction, etc. and yet the head designer gets all the glory for it. Thats the way it works.
