Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker

^ imo, you are making that sound as if SJP should get as much credit as Karl Lagerfeld does... just because they both have a team of designers working w/ them... seems unfair to me :flower:

Why unfair? If Karl is doing the same amount of work? Because he's been in the business longer? Karl sits in a chair and sketches and talks about what fabrics he'd like (which other people source and bring to him) and how he'd like things to fall. Everything is brought to him. Which is fine because someone does need to be at the top. Is he more accomplished? Yes. But i don't think 'unfair' is the right word

^well, i think as Borjacappella: it´s different... and yeah! seems unfair (maybe not the wright word, but it´s not the same being Klagerfeld and being SJP in front of a team)...

maybe i didnt use the right word... but yes, i think karl does a lot more work and he is basing it on a lot more knowledge and experience (cut, use of fabric, proportion...)
Coming to think about it, what doesnt seem fair is that so many talented fashion students will probably have to wait so many years for their collections to be noticed and SJP just needs to star in her own ads, aprove what her designers team does and that's it: money money money from fans fans fans... and that's how i generally feel about celebs designing fashion lines, it's just one more way of using their popularity to make money

PS:the only label i've ever liked that is designed by a celebrity (actually two of them) is The Row by the Olsens... who knows maybe SJP's will be acceptable too:innocent:

I like SJP and all but one can't help but be critical over there being ANOTHER celeb-designed "fashion" line.

no it is not because he has been in business longer, it is because he is a couturier, probably the last of the greats (with ALAIA being the only other that is still working) He knows what he needs to know and has toiled long and hard to get where he is.
He didnt actually become famous until he started at Chanel in 1983.
I would much rather work for him than a celebrity wannabe.
the credit one recieves for working for a legit designer is that it validates your resume. and allows you access and connections that can be invaluable in the future.
I would be really ashamed if i had to work and put the name of a "Celebrity Designer on my resume.

I don't really see this as an atrocity to be honest .. her show was crap and I'm not a fan of Patricia Field either but who knows.. I don't think anyone has to go through starvation, humiliation, endless nights of samples, sizing, cutting, etcetc just to be qualified as a genuine designer, I do belive it's a profession like any other and knowledge is paramount to achieve a dignified result that does not embarrass, crash or mislead the field you're pretending to work in at any point but I also feel like it's not strictly outrageous to see somebody give the big jump to another profession, if the person is doing it with respect.. which I hope SPJ does.. what's the big deal seriously?, many people have done wonders in a field they did not particularly study for.. Lacroix for example.. and then again, there are many designers who did go to fashion school and seminars.. and they still can't get a grip and do something remotely good for a change.
Just stating my opinion in defense of those who don't have the "credentials" as designers anyway.. I don't have any good expectations on SJP.. but I don't think it's going to be horrid either, just some sort of Thakoon-Herrera-Furstenberg type of NY boredom. :ninja:

Bitten Revealed!
The details behind SJP's first-ever clothing line

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

(NEW YORK) On Monday, The Daily revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker was planning to announce plans for Bitten, a new clothing line the actress was working on. Following this morning’s preview, here are more details:

-First off, how the line was named: according to a company release, “Bitten” was driven by Parker’s reaction when she was first introduced to Steve & Barry’s. “Parker was blown away by the company’s mission and bitten by the Steve & Barry’s bug after walking into a Steve & Barry’s store for the first time.”

-The Bitten collection is Parker’s first-ever apparel line, which she teamed up with Steve & Barry’s to produce. The collection aims to offer high-quality, affordably priced sportswear for women of all ages and sizes. Steve & Barry’s were, in 2005, given the Hot Retailer of the Year award from the International Council of Shopping Centers.

-The Bitten collection will be offered in a full size range from small to XXL in tops, 2—20 in bottoms, and 6—10 in shoes.

-The pieces will be sold exclusively at all Steve & Barry’s shopping mall locations across the country beginning June 7, with every item priced at $19.98 or less. The collection will boast an assortment of over 150 styles and more than 400 apparel and accessory items and grown to nearly 500 apparel and accessories by August with the introduction of the fall line.

-Key looks from the summer and fall lines include suit separates in a wool blend with stretch; lightweight wovens; basic black cotton dresses; a denim collection; tees in cotton jersey; nightgowns; swimwear, and accessories including handbags, totes, jewelry, belts, and footwear.

-The collection will be merchandised in a store-within-a-store environment featuring specially designed fixtures, signage packages, and plasma monitors running segments of The Bitten Story, a documentary on Parker’s life and her vision for the line.

Said Parker, “Women should be able to wear great clothes and not lie in bed at night feeling guilty about how much money they’ve spent. High quality, luxurious clothes do not need to cost as much as we’ve been led to think.”

This sounds....terrible. I like the idea of creating affordable fashion for women of all sizes but it makes me think of Kathy Ireland's line. I've never even heard of this Steve and Barry store so maybe i'm not expecting the right thing. But still. 400 accessories?! Seems crazy.

Karl WAS famous in the 70's along with Laurent so I don't think thats fair to say.but mullet completely summed up what i was trying to say.

Just what I wanted: another celebrity designer.

...sounds like her friendship with McQueen might not last too much longer.:innocent:

this has to be the worst name for a fashion label ever- when i read the thread title, i thought she was being sued or something for actually biting someone

It would be a folly to imagine that all these celebrity endorsed designs are generated solely by the 'stars' themselves. Designing at this level, like all creative endeavours of this scale, is a collaborative one. I don't think we need to fear that what we shall be seeing in the stores are the creations of the individual attached to the brand. I mean, do you really think Kate Moss sat down in a room for 6months, sketch pad in hand to come up with a capsule collection for Mr.Green?!

So, yes, I can't wait to see the result of SJP's foray into design and I can only hope that the team behind her come up with the goods. With her input of course!

Its not as bad as Victoria Beckham having a collection but still not a good thing.

Okay, so the comparisons with Lagerfeld were a bit premmy now we know she's just signing off on someone else's stuff. I'd have thought that the obvious company who would hate this deal is David Bitton - but hey, if it's only a limited range with limited exposure then what the hell, right? Ka-ching! $$

I can see all the heavy duty fashionistas avoiding this one simply because they *may* see what they own on a size 20 walking down Mad Ave...quelle horreur!!

this alone shows she has no clue about what she is doing.
there is nothing in clothing that can be sold for 19.95 that can be of any good quality.

the above article goes to show that she is heading down the wrong road.
If my memory serves me correct (i have to do some fact checking here) Steve and Barrys Is a crappy retail chain that is geared towards college Kids.
they (used to) sell $10 jeans and have thier stores strategically placed in malls close to large colleges.

i will check to make sure that my memory is not decieving me on this one........

No, you're right. If Old Navy can't manage to do anything close to luxe for under $20, then how does SJP think she can, and still make a decent margin for the company??

Aaah, now i see!
steve and barry's hit the jackpot this year with a super cheap basketball shoe endorsed by Stephon Marbury called the starbury. the shoe is doing REALLY well.
the shoe costs $14.98.
so it makes sense that SJP think she can break records with steve and barry's as well.
we dont have many of these stores in my state and the 5 stores that there are in my state are located in very economically depressed areas.

there's a steve and barrys at the manhattan mall in NYC. maybe i will check it out to see what it is like in june.

i will be interested to see what she does but from what i hear the line looks like something "the olsen twins have already worn it" (socialitelife.com) so we shall see. but seeing where it is going to be sold does scare me a bit...and your right i doubt her and Mcqueen will stay so close for long....
