Books and their homes....

this is so good!!!
i love this.... when you have little space this is soo "pratique"... though i'm scared of the "stairs" thing....

thanks...

I wonder if they have all been read or just bought to fit in with the colours?
I recently had (and actually still doing) to put all my library in boxes... so had to see all the books i have.... like 15 boxes (i have some lot of pockets books....) - it's not that much but as i'm just in my twenties it's ok... planning to buy more.... a lot more!
it just came to my mind i hadn't read 30% of them.... It's not just to decorate that i buy books... i'm a paper freak and just love looking and then reading....^_^ i just buy and sometimes don't read....
but if i had to decorate my library with books it would be with La Pleïade not something with colours....

^ thanks! i'm glad u liked! it's such an ingenious use of space.

just a tip: i was at my local library and i noticed the librarians doing this, they would push the smaller sized books forward to make them all even in the front. so i went home and tried it, and it makes it look so much better. do other ppl know about this?

This room is almost too extravagant for my taste, but I do like the rich, warm colors.

absolutely not... if they would do this in university library then it would sooo easier to find the pocket books....
But I don't do this as I prefer to put big books all together and pocket books all together.... it's easier to me...
but i'll try in my next library....

^ that room is too rigid for my tastes....nothing cosy or inviting about it....although i do love those 2 chairs on the left  and i'm sure with the fireplace in the winter it is much cosier....

Do any of you buy books you'd never read just because of the cover? Just so your bookshelf can look the way you want it?

If I owned one of those rooms posted that are old, I'd probably buy a lot of old looking books regardless of what they were about.

^i personally wouldnt do that...what if people come to visit and ask u 'oh what did u think of that book?'

Never. Half the time I don't pay attention to covers in the first place. I'm more interested in the content.

The vintage feel to this library is interesting, but I think the flowers on the table look slightly out of place and distracting.

The library table was designed by Jim Zivic (www.jimzivic.com) for one of Ms. Puett's stores, and the chairs are from an industrial sweatshop. "I have a whole collection of those, too," she said. In the library, the floor was made from wood boards that were charred, then treated with linseed oil and sealed with polyurethane.

I like the shot in post #152.
those chairs sort of remind me of chairs I used to sit in in grammar school...
i like the vintage feel to that library.

I buy books based on their cover but read books based on their content.

If I see a book with a great cover in an op shop/thrift store I'll buy it, but if it costs more than $2 then it's not coming home with me
