oh interesting news!

will the original one in downtown crossing still be open?

i bet if the new store is on newbury st it will definitely have some merchandise worth checking out...

ive read that the store on newbury will NOT be participating in the markdown system. (which i guess doesnt matter because the basement officials keep gaming the system and switching the dates all the time)

downtown will stay open.

very interesting...

maybe you should write an expose on the corruption within the markdown system at filene's basement :p

thanks again for the info :flower:

Yep, confirming this! I actually confronted them on it once, and they claim the customers switch dates!!! The best way to beat them at this game is to hide the item somewhere unlikely (plus sized swimwear, for example, where nobody looks), and retrieve it on the date the price goes down.

Doesn't always work, of course. I have a friend who hid a jacket under another one at close of business, and came in the next morning, and the jacket he was hoping to get at 50% was gone, and didn't reappear for a couple of days. When it finally came back, it had a fresh date sticker on the tag.

and I thought I was the only one who did this at stores :ninja:

i actually checked with someone at boston magazine i know. they said they wouldnt touch it because filenes basement is a big advertiser with them.

with all the department store consolidations, no one is going to piss off a potential advertiser.

stuff always disapears at filenes basement when it nears the 50% off or 75% date and then comes back with the original date sticker ripped off another date sticker stuck on.

a few times ive even seen date stickers in the future!!

so crazy

i can't remember when i last saw something there for 50 or 75% off... that whole date sticker thing is such a gimmick ... at least i've gotten stuff for the lower percentage discounts..

but still

lots of miu miu, prada and some marc jacobs stuff by the vault in the downtown store.

i didnt buy anything.

for example.
miu miu bags are 129. didnt see anything spectacular.
marc t shirts are 40-60$
lots of marc blazers for 99 (hated all of them except for a military bandleader jacket)
prada/miu miu clothing was pretty expensive...dont remember prices...

theres a sneak preview of the new filenes basement tommorow. i think ill go and check it out.

i just signed up for the weekly email from filenes basement. there are 20% off coupons a lot if you opt to receive the email.
