Bouchra Jarrar Haute Couture F/W 2020.21 | the Fashion Spot

Bouchra Jarrar Haute Couture F/W 2020.21

Oh wow, this is so chic and beautiful. Such a perfect marriage of simplicity and understated elements. Especially with the trouser look where the model is jumping on the sofa, the fit of that jacket in Look 5, and tailoring on all her trousers.
Sure it won't go down in the annals of fashion history, but it makes a strong statement and gives you a very clear impression of what her reboot is all about. And a movement that is sorely missing from most of the blue-chip brands.

My favourite HC collection so far, but then there's still Margiela.

Bouchra's clothes are quiet, simple and stunning. It's a shame that her voice doesn't echo in today's loud world, and that she wasn't given enough time to prove herself at Lanvin (imo), because this is a wonderful collection for a client that she knows well. I think if I were a very wealthy Parisianne, I'd definitely go to Jarrar for pantsuits and jackets.

Lovely styling with the boots, a simple hairdo and the nonchalant attitude of the girls. I also like the way she plays between masculine and feminine, it's fresh for couture.

A much needed palate cleanser after so many loud shows with so little to say.

It’d beautiful and chic even if it does not rock my world. Her clothes are not so much about creativity but solving problems (A good coat, a good trouser, a good shirt) while offering a great craftmanship at a good price. In a way, going to Bouchra is like going to Massaro for a custom made shoe...It’s not so much about the design than what it does for you.

She wasn’t good for Lanvin. She had enough time. She just wasn’t a good fit. It’s very difficult to have that much quietness and subtlety all around for such an iconic fashion house.
Then, you can say Jil Sander for example was quiet...But she wasn’t. She was radical!

She was there for two seasons and two pre-seasons (the first one being a rushed collection) Lola, come on. That's way too little time. I think Lanvin was truly lost at that time and they didn't get behind Bouchra. I liked her direction. I know it wasn't for everyone, but I liked it. It was much better than what MGC is doing for Dior, for example. She just didn't have the machinery behind her.

I believe more and more in small contracts but I also must say that when you hire a fairly well known name, who comes with a defined vision and aesthetic, you can quickly see if it could work or not.
Even if she was given much more time, it wouldn’t have changed anything...Much like Clare because the dynamic nowadays is generally in the first 2 seasons.

She did great separates but you can’t just stick an aesthetic into a house that sells mostly clothes and that has a already established « glamorous » image.

MGC’s is maybe not our taste but it passes as Dior. A lot of A line, New Look and marchandise.
Bouchra is a designer much fitted for a house like Hermès (she is a friend of Veronique). That kind of quiet aesthetic, more than a big machine, needs a more fitted « écrin ».

I really don't like the way she's presented this. Not only does it make the clothes look bad but she's made the HC look like RTW. Actually, that might be the whole point but I still hate it.

I can't really see the clothes, you know ? I feel I am just looking at images.

this is definitely one of my favorites from HC this year!!

I always love a black & white color palette, but what makes me love this collection even more are the details that have been added to each piece.

These looks are still very simple, but they have an extra bit of elegance to them without being too over the top.
