Awww, it feels like it's been a dog's age since I've been here... but what a wonderful series of pics to come back to!

Eurgh, Ciel, you weren't kidding about BB's bad taste! Patrick Gilles looks more or less exactly like what you would think a 1960s pimp would look like, no more and no less. (Blech.) Sami Frey is much better look... although he would probably look even better if he had he has two distinct eyebrows. Still, it's a vast improvement!

And thanks for the gorgeous pics, Meghann and Lady Stardust! The ones with Sean Connery crack me up, since I remember reading on a fan blog that Connery tried to hit on BB on the set of Shalako by showing up naked in her bed. I hear she wasn't much impressed by that!

Also, I found some beautiful rare BB pictures on Edwin Quinn's site. There are quite a few but I'm just putting up the oldest ones of her with brunette hair, since no one here should be startled at my tastes. Please let me know if you have any of these without the water-mark... I would love to see those!

(From the set of Manina... I continue to be astounded by the fact that that flimsy swim-suit topic ever managed to contain her!)

free image hosting

(Not sure where this is from but her little polka-dot scarf is so cute!)

(Love this outfit... as demure as can be! And Leslie Caron is so pretty next to her... it's funny how they're both practically the epitome of brunette french gamime-iness in this photos, but BB would eventually make it big as a blond sex-bomb.)

(A gorgeous dress... something that Betty Draper would wear at a gala. Although it's ironic she's swathed in so much fur in these photos, considering how much of an animal's right activist she would become!)

(Look at these gorgeous classic cars! BB ain't too shabby either.)

(Awww, cuteness! Love that mischevious smile.)

(From Cannes, promoting Naughty Girl. This is seriously one of my favorite BB outfits... the sexy, slim-line cut looks great on her.)

(I love how her lipstick-red pants match the car so well. Now THAT is color co-ordination!)

(BB could really rock tight-trousers with a pair of simple flats and fantastic posture. Just from looking at these photos, you can tell she was once a dancer-- look at how elegantly her feet are placed in even these casual shots! Plus, I love how often she wore that last outfit. It even showed up in the beginning of Plucking the Daisy.)

(BB with Winston Churchill,of all people! She apparently told him that he was a cute old man, rendering him speechless for once.)

Also, does anyone happen to know anything about this short interview of BB below? It's apparently from December 1956, she's wearing the plaid-trousers-and-dark-shirt combo from the second-to-last picture of my last post, and she's speaking in french with what I assume is a reporter. Can anyone translate? Her voice is very adorable and chirpy but alas, I know no french at all!

2 screen-caps from the interview:

(Too bad the video wasn't any clearer... she looks very lovely from what I can make out. And I think her hair is blond at this point but with a dark under-tone...?)

I looove her voice and her sort of accent...

Translation:

BB: Voilà ! What do you think ?
Guy : I think only a weirdo would disapprove.

Guy: All in all, you don't have a good reputation, do you know what people have against you ?

BB (interrupts him:( Did you just come here to insult me?

Guy: No, just to take stock of the situation.

Voiceover: This is how BB is, naïve, or as her critics would say, foolish. In any case, this document proves her simplicity.

BB: I came here to defend myself. I have to say that I..I..I've had a moment, like 6 months ago, when I didn't give a damn about anything, I didn't go to meetings at all. But now I'm taking this seriously.

Guy: For the past 2 years, your pictures have been all over the magazines, you'll probably need a huge flat to store them.

BB: I'm actually purchasing a flat right now but...

Guy (interrupts her:( Just for the pictures ?

BB (laughing) : No, not for this ! No, it's because I want to sunbathe.

Thank you for the translation, Ciel! And seriously, what a weird interview... it's like they're trying to infantalize her and yet pat her on the head for being so adorably "simple" at the same time. Still, I like her quick reply-- she always did have a streak of "eff you, I'll do what I want" that I have to admit to finding very charming.

And her laugh is wonderful too!

Lately, I've been getting into BB's music also... I LOVE her collabs with Serge Gainsburg! Man was ugly as sin but jesus was his music gorgeous-- I especially love all the lyrical strings he used in his work. Plus, Brigitte's voice is so beautiful in their songs together. She doesn't really sing so much as she kind of... chants words, to be honest, but I love how husky and soft and intimate her voice is in both of the songs below. It's like she's inviting you to know her better even when she keeps you at a remove... it's an alluring mystery, to say the least!

Anyone have any idea how to embed these vids onto this forum? And anyone have recommendations for more music by her?

Also, a few cute pictures of BB from Naughty Girl, via CorbisImages.com. Gah, I have such a backlog of screen-caps to put up and this is yet another movie...

Man was ugly as sin
Blasphemy! :D (I'm a Serge fangirl :P). Actually, it's quite curious, Serge is the man who IMHO Brigitte speaks most beautifully in her autobiography. Like it was true love, but they were never able have each other, as she was married to Günther at that point. Serge even lived with her in her apartment at Paul-Doumer. Brigitte never liked Günther's apartment, so she continued mostly living in her own one... Günther didn't even have a key to her place, so I guess it was safe to keep Serge there :D.

And she didn't hold her breath in the autobiography, when it came to sharing her opinions about men... for example she compared Alain Delon to a furniture.

To embed videos, use tags [ yt ] [ /yt ] (without the spaces) and between them, put the series of numbers/ letters at the end of the address of the video, like ai2As4XFZDY.

One of my favorite tunes of Brigitte by Serge is Harley Davidson,

He also made this wonderful song about her,

Screencaps for Doctor at Sea!

I keep promising and promising screen-caps and sadly not delivering... so finally, I'm putting up screen-caps for a charming British comedy from 1955 that features BB speaking English and being an absolute brunette stunner... Doctor at Sea! This movie is amazingly easy to get ahold of-- you can stream it through Netflix or watch it through Amazon.com's Instant Streaming service-- and it's a must-watch for any Brigitte fans. She doesn't show up for the first quarter of the movie but she makes her entrance with a stunning song-and-dance number and she's truly charming as the main love interest. She actually has chemistry with the main character and although she doesn't exactly get tons of character development, she has great banter and ends up with a lover who isn't a total louse, for once!

Plus, she wears some fantastic costumes in this movie-- the height of 1950s fashion. It's a must-watch for any fans of this period as well.

You won't be charged for using this site and the download process is free, easy, and takes place without any waiting period. And don't worry about getting your computer infected-- Mediafire has no viruses!]

[And feel free to put up these screen-caps on any other site if you like-- no need to credit me! Take them and have fun.]

Anyway, now that that disclaimer is over and done with... let me give you a sampling of the screen-caps and discuss Brigitte's best outfits in Doctor at Sea! Screen-caps are all mine, taken from the Amazon.com streaming site.

1) Her entrance outfit-- a stunning white satin (?) gown with red embellishments and detailing.

This is the outfit she wears during her "entrance" to the movie-- and during the movie's one-and-only song and dance number-- and it announces basically everything you need to know about the character. She's sassy and sweet without being overtly sexy, and by far the most alluring woman around. I love how everything in this outfit matches so adorably, from her red gloves to her red bolero-- stick this dress on a Barbie Doll and it would fit perfectly! Plus, her earrings are fantastic although they're almost definitely costume-- BB typically didn't wear huge earrings in her real life but they fit her showy-yet-tender character in this film.

2) Her outfit while boarding the ship: A fantastic mustard yellow/green-yellow shirt dress with white detailing.

In the best way possible, Brigitte's outfits in this movie basically could be replicated on any given Barbie doll of the period. I thought this look as absolutely adorable-- everything matches and proclaims her to be a quintessential wholesome '50s girl, from her faux-pearl earrings to her little white gloves to her matching white purse and the adorable dress as well. I love how tailored it is to her trim figure as well!

3) Brigitte's character caught in the shower

Not really a costume per-se but... I couldn't help but put this up! She looks so cute and I love the scarf holding her hair up.

4) Her pale pink (?) gown during a welcoming dance held on the ship

Unfortunately, her next formal outfit is one we barely glimpse during the movie itself, which is why I'm also showing off a few publicity shots of the outfit off. It's a rather beautiful pale pink (I'm kind of guessing on the color...) outfit that showcases Brigitte's face and shoulders beautifully, which is why the costumers probably picked it for her. (Alas, we barely see below her collar-bone when she shows up in this outfit!) Still, it has some period perfect details, as you can see from some images I picked up at Bellazon forums and at the Mademoiselle Bardot tumblr. I love the ruched fabric at her breasts in her under-outfit and the way the tight bodice gives way to a flowing skirt. She wears this silhouette throughout the entire movie but given how fantastic she looks in it, I'm not complaining!

I love the earrings as well, though they must weigh a ton. BB got to wear some great pieces of jewelry in this film-- clearly, her character comes from some money!

5) Her one-piece off-one-shoulder green bathing suit

BB did several memorable publicity shots featuring this one bathing suit. I love the emerald color-- perfectly suits her brunette locks, for one. And even though it probably wouldn't hold up in the water, it looks fantastic on her figure-- again, not overtly sexy but still very sensual. And of course, it suits her fantastic figure, even though very few woman nowadays would feel comfortable with such a heavy-looking suit.

6) Her lavender short-shorts belted sailor's suit

Period-perfect and absolutely adorable! I love how she manages to be so sexy in this thing that she literally straightens the back of a bent-over man. Plus, you can't help but admire her bosom in this outfit! Her high pony-tail is a perfect compliment-- she looks like any wholesome teenager from the time period. She also did some great publicity shots for the movie in this outfit.

6) What I'm pretty sure is the first and only time we ever see BB suited up for surgery, ever.

I don't even have any comments-- I just think it's funny!

7) Her "serious" outfit during a medical emergency-- a striped poplin (?) dress shirt, wide black belt, and purple velvet (?) dress

Interestingly, this is the first outfit BB wears in the movie that I'm 100% sure is all her own and not coming from the costume department. She's worn this shirt in a previous movie, School for Love. Additionally, every BB fan should recognize that wide black belt (seriously, she wore it everywhere in the 1950s) and that flared purple skirt-- she wore it for many publicity shots in Cannes!

(Non-screen-caps are from the bardotdatabase.com and Gettyimages.)

8) Her "farewell" outfit-- a sober and simple black dress with restrained costume jewelry

Fitting a sad scene, this is the only time we ever see BB wearing dark somber colors in this movie. I only wish we could see more of her outfit-- she's only shot from bosom up, sadly, so there's no way to tell what the skirt looked like. I love her jewelry though-- I'm sure it's just costume but it's very restrained and pretty.

(From Bellazon forums: an "alternate outfit" BB almost wore for this scene. Wonder why they chose to switch to the black outfit only? Maybe because this get-up makes her look too young for the good doctor?)

9) Her "false leaving" outfit-- a green suit with a matching fascinator and gloves.

Another wonderful outfit that could have shown up on a Barbie for this time period. This is as professional as BB has ever looked in this movie and I love the details: the white fuzzy collar, the matching fascinator, the gloves, the sober little black purse.

Videos from Doctor at Sea

And with the lovely Fiamfierro's help, here are all the videos of BB in Doctor at Sea that I can find. I think it's the only early movie of hers where she spoke English exclusively (or almost exclusively) and her voice is so adorable and enchanting in this film! I love her French accent... it truly makes her sound like a song-bird.

And again, if you want to watch this movie, it's easy to stream from Netflix or Amazon.com streaming video service. It's probably the most accessible early BB movie, in fact.

Oh dear... Fiammi, I'm sorry! If I knew how much you liked Serge, I wouldn't have come out swinging quite so much! :P

I will say this about Serge... when I first learned he hooked up with BB, I was absolutely shocked! I mean, she already had kind of... uh... dubious tastes in regard to masculine beauty but I thought he was... well, pretty beyond the pale. ::cough::

But after watching a couple of videos about him... trust me, I'm very secure in my sexual identity, and even I'm unsure about whether I could resist his saucy french charms if he talked to me in that sexy voice all night long. :P He's the kind of person that the term je na sai quoi was born for-- you wouldn't know if by looking at him, but charisma just oozes out of him. And in his vids with Brigitte below, I can definitely see why they were so amazingly attracted to one another. Something about her ultra-femininity/toughness and his ultra-masculinity/delicacy really suits!

Thanks for the Harley Davidson vid, btw! I love BB when she's being tough-- something about pushy women appeals to me on a visceral level, I think. And Initials BB is absolutely charming! I think it really does encapsulate BB's alluring, mysterious, magnetic appeal on an almost molecular level. If I had to sum her up in a song, that would be it.

Plus, I recently found another collab of theirs: Comic Book. The song itself is probably their weakest but I love the video. Dark haired older BB kicking **** everywhere-- what's not to love? I love how her image gets translated into pop art as well-- damn, she would have been a great model for Roy Lichenstein. If only!

Exactly! Let's say Serge wasn't short of gorgeous women around him... Brigitte, Juliette Gréco, Jane Birkin, Anna Karina, France Gall, Catherine Deneuve, Bambou and the list goes on.

Here's a rather funny clip of Brigitte performing with Serge & another ex-lover, Sacha Distel,

^ I love "La bise aux hippies" :woot: !

Oh wow Funnyfan, thank you for your incredible work  !

I love her clothes in Doctor At Sea, like you said, she's a perfect 50s doll  It's hard to pick a favorite..I'd say the "false leaving" outfit (9)a green suit with a matching fascinator and gloves", the bathing suit and the lavender short-shorts belted sailor's suit (6).

I'm not surprised about her chemistry with Dirk Bogarde, he only had good things to say about her, for instance: 'She was incredibly assertive. She taught me never to say: "No, I'm sorry, but . . ." If you don't want to do something, you must always say: "No!" . She was positive. She was more in control of her destiny than people imagined.'

Still, I like her quick reply-- she always did have a streak of "eff you, I'll do what I want" that I have to admit to finding very charming.

Yeah I love that too, she was and still is the boss, no one tells her what to do or say :P

I totally agree, Serge did most of her best songs ! She doesn't even need to sing, her voice is absolutely charming. She really enjoyed doing songs and videos. Actually she did all these videos and shows for free, sometimes after working all day on a movie set.

Also, some more images from CorbisImages.com. Anyone know if these photos come from a particular movie set? She loves drop dead GORGEOUS in them!

They're not from a movie set, it's a photoshoot in the shop of a fashion brand she loved, Réal. The photographer is Sabine Weiss.

Jesus, Serge was knee-deep in world-class beauties, wasn't he? There's something to be said for explosive talent after all!

And what a hilarious clip! Brigitte could make a lot of things seem awesome but I'm afraid her magic did not quite work on the most hippie-tastic parts of the late 60's. Oh well... nice to see she gave it the ol' college try. And Sacha Distel is surprisingly handsome-- nice to know she had good taste in men occasionally.

Ah, you're welcome! The screen-caps are a bit of work but it's nice to see people enjoying them. And it's fun to finally put up something "new" of BBs that hasn't already been posted up previously. This thread is so long that I'm always paranoid that people have already put what I thought were new pictures up!

BB was gorgeous at Doctor at Sea. It's always great to see a movie of hers in color, since so many of her movies (especially the early ones) at black-and-white, which unfortunately keeps us from enjoying her beauty and costumes as much as we could. That her clothes are fantastically detailed and put together and that the cinematography is so nicely crisp doesn't hurt either!

Plus, her love affair with the main character was surprisingly sweet and funny, and lacks the "icky" undertone that happens in movies where her lover is a total lothario (like Plucking the Daisy, ick!) or she "steals" him away from some unfortunate (usually older and less stereotypically gorgeous) other woman. I could actually enjoy this romance without cringing at the gross social codes of the '50s and '60s and feeling like a bad feminist.

And thank you for identifying those photos from the Sabine Weiss fashion shoot! Now you've made me nostalgic for blonde BB again... which comes up to our next choice in screen-caps! What would people like to see screen-capped next, from the obscure BB cine files:

1) Naughty Girl, Featuring Brunette BB at her most Manic-Pixie Mode?

upload pictures

or

2) The Bride is Much Too Beautiful, Featuring a Young Blonde BB playing the sweet, virginal heroine? (Movie kindly donated by Fiamfierro, btw! Thank you once again, dear heart.)

:heart::heart: Cast your vote! I'll tally them up and put up the winner's caps this Friday.:heart::heart:

My vote for Naughty Girl! (I'm into brunette BB at the moment :D).
