You shouldn't feel bad because she's not racist. I had doubts at the beginning when I didn't know her well (and Lisaa1 can testify

) and I just believed hearsay, so I decided to investigate a little bit (Emanuel Bonini's book about her pretty much sums up everything) and I discovered how incredibly generous and loving she is, not at all the mean b*tch some people portray her to be.
Then people reply "yeah but she was condemned for incitation of racial hatred". Because of what ? Because she said that "muslims try to impose their customs" since she's angry that they have a dispensation when it comes to animal slaughter. Indeed according to the law animals have to be stunned before being killed (she's been fighting for this as early as 1962 when french slaughterhouses didn't yet stun animals), but there is a derogation for halal and casher meat. Funnily enough, a french writer, Michel Houellebecq, has been far more offensive against Islam (saying that it is a religion of jerks and idiots) but he's never been fined. And when Brigitte blames the French (foie gras), the Spanish (corrida), the Coreans (for eating dog) , the Chinese, the Canadians (seal hunting),etc.., no one says she's xenophobic. What matters to her is animal welfare no matter which nationality its offenders are.
In the end I'm sure Brigitte is not racist, she criticized Islam, which is a religion not a race, and I don't see why people should be condemned because they disagree with a religion. If she was racist and anti-Arab she wouldn't have written to Israeli officials during the Lebanon war in 2006 to conjure them to stop bombing Lebanese people. She wouldn't have written to George W. Bush to beg him not to go to Iraq in 2003, when a majority of Americans approved of this war on basis of fighting terrorism, no matter how shocked she had been by September 11. Her statements and personality clearly prove that she loathes politically correct so if she did all that she really meant it. And there are other examples like these. But people don't know that because she doesn't like to boast about how charitable she is, she helps a lot of humans too but she doesn't want to make it public.
Brigitte isn't perfect, some of her views are probably reactionary but she's a 76 year old woman, she grew up in a wholly different context, in a very strict and conservative bourgeois family, not only am I not surprised by her opinions but it is also her right.
My point is that whether we agree with her or not, she at least deserves respect. Because she's been fighting for this cause for almost 40 years, most people who vilify her don't do a quarter as much of what she does to help people or animals. I think acts are worth better than words and in that departement, Brigitte is faultless. Sometimes I agree with her sometimes I don't, but above all I really admire her courage and generosity.
Sorry if it's a bit long but I really wanted to clarify this one and for all
Pictures again now
