Budget Friendly Makeup

i love those! what colour did you get? (i ask because i havent checked out revlon in a while, curious to see if they brought any new shades out)
I purchased Fabulous Fig, it is so lovely! I'm not sure it's new, but definitely check it out if you don't have it. It's sort of a brown/red/terracotta (I'm quite bad at describing colours, sorry...). It's the sort of shade that would work on pretty much anyone.

it sounds familiar! i will definitely check it out though. :) i think my all time favourite matte lipstick is either strawberry suede (discontinued in the uk though, WHY) or mauve it over depending on my mood. i do honestly think they are so underrated, i'm forever recommending them to people!

Any good budget friendly concealer? My bf keeps calling me panda.
Quite late, but I really recommend you Maybelline's Mineral Power Perfecting concealer, it comes out in 6 shades. I have it myself and it really works- my (very) dark circles disappear in a jiffy.

A few days ago I picked up a tube of Revlon's Matte Lipstick, I think I'm in love! I almost splurged on Chanel's Rouge Allure Velvet, but this is almost better. They aren't super drying and the staying power is fantastic. I highly recommend these!

I love those... I wish they'd release every creme color in matte!

^ the only revlon lipstick I have wont stay on my lips for more than 10 mins and thats with lipliner. I should have gotten a matte one ugh..

do they have any dark berry tones in the matte range?

Oh Revlon lippies ^_^ my love affair continues, Spiced Brandy is an old stand by. Blackberry is the perfect warm not too orangey red, and now I'm really keen on the new Revlon Colorburst Lip butters:

(How fun is the packaging?!? Love the sleek 60s embossed tube. I've noticed that the cap is quite sturdy and really needs a good tug to get it off)

I picked up Red Velvet and was surprised by how pigmented they are. I prefer the effect of just dabbing the tube on for a bitten look. most of the swatches on line don't look anything like what id does on me but I will soldier on despite iffy swatches, as there are 20 shades total. Am still humming and hawing on my next shade:

Pink Truffle/Sugar Frosting/Raspberry Pie/Tutti Frutti/Brown Sugar/Peach Parfait/Fig Jam/Candy Apple/Red Velvet/Cotton Candy/Berry Smoothie/Cupcake/Gumdrop/Creamsicle/Cherry Tart/Lollipop/Strawberry Shortcake/Sugar Plum/Sweet Tart/Creme Brulee

Ohh ellastica!! I want to try them out so bad but I can't find any store near me that stocks them yet! I'm definitely going to buy loads of them, probably all at once because I'm not someone who easily makes up their mind when it comes to makeup. Revlon is easily one of my favorite drugstore brands, with Bourjois.

Can you actually get Revlon Colorburst Lip butters in the UK 'cause I can't see them on their official web-site?

i really like the look of "pink truffle" - but haven't seen or heard about these in the UK

I love the Essence make-up products, the products are not expensive and I highly recommend these. I always use their eye pencils, they last the whole day, even when I have problems with my eyes since I wear contact lenses I cry a lot.
One eye pencil costs 2 euros in stores across Europe.
Here is the picture of those eye pencils..

La bordélique, i'm not sure when or if they'll be released in Canada but i do know that they're part of the permanent line, so i'm guessing they'll eventually make their way up north...

i'm having issues finding stores that still have the full 20 shades to choose from and the ones that are left don't really appeal to me. but with those many shades i keep forgetting which ones i actually wanted to try in the first place. but then that's why i do the bad thing and 'test' them:innocent:

i do have to say that while the Butter balms do apply well, they're not super hydrating as the name suggests but still a great product.

I've read good reviews for Maybelline Baby Lips for those looking for more of that emollient, glossy finish. however the color range isn't nearly as enticing.

But for a tried and true Butter balm type product for the lips i LOVE Boots Botanics Super Face Balm, used as a lip treatment. it's only like $9 but i'm not sure if it's available in Canada. Supposedly it's a dupe of Josie Maran Argan Oil.

^ I've been wanting to try that for so long now, but no target that I've gone to has it!! I absolutely love the boots botanics range, so I think that should be amazing as well :(

Behold Mr "Barry M" himself - an article about the brand (observer.co.uk):

Barry-Mero-007.jpg

Barry M: the king of colour

Dazzle dust, crackle effects and lip and nail paint in every possible shade mean there's never a dull day when Barry Mero's about. As the iconic brand approaches its 30th birthday, Eva Wiseman heads to its pink London warehouse to meet the man behind Barry M

I can't overstate the excitement of my make-up-loving friends when I tell them who I was going to meet one spitty afternoon in December. Like Chanel, like Dior, this is a person turned brand. A person who, despite their success, is notoriously reclusive. Anonymous. "Does he really exist?" my friends gasped, eyes kohled wide. He's the Martin Margiela of beauty, I explain – a private but inspiring figure, a quiet man who hides in plain sight, ie in a massive pink warehouse in the suburbs of north London. He's Barry Mero, known to the drag queens, teenage girls, women and make-up wearers of Britain simply as Barry M.

The ground floor of his warehouse is warm with the smell of toffee – vats of lip gloss curdle gently at the back. Off to the right, in an aquarium-like laboratory, a chemist is two months into tests of a new foundation. The current blend (£6.19) is one of their bestsellers – Barry's daughter Joanna, the company's sales manager, says customers tell them it's "better than Chanel". Boxes of their recent hit, the crackle-effect nail varnish, are stacked lovingly against pink walls. Passing between the shelves is like navigating a series of sense headaches – tutti-frutti perfumes smash up against coconut and strawberry. It feels like you're being caramelised. So it's a relief to follow the pink stairs up to the pink boardroom, where, waiting for me with a wide grin and glinting Hermès belt, is Barry M himself.

Fifty years ago, aged 16, Barry Mero worked on his mum's stall in London's Ridley Road market at weekends and at a wholesaler during the week. He bought hair lacquer from the wholesaler and sold it for a profit on the pitch, then expanded into his own cosmetics company.

"The selling, the marketing… It's all the same. And I was quite flamboyant," he says, chuckling. "I still like to wear a pink shirt. Colour has always excited me, so in 1982 I went to some nail people and ordered 72 colours. They said: 'Nobody orders that many!' But if you buy a yellow blouse, you might want to buy some yellow nail varnish to go with it." It's this reasoning that helped explode the brand to cult status – today they sell 40 bottles of Nail Paint (£2.99) every minute. After launching the varnishes, they expanded into 36 shades of "dazzle dust", the glitter powder that coated my early teens with a fine sparkle, and Barry M started to get rich.

So what did he do right? "We just didn't take the mickey out of people," he says. "We hardly ever raise the price. Today the components cost more, but we sell more. It's outrageous that other brands charge more. We're a family business [his son Dean is the managing director]. And we're adventurous: we were the first to market nail effects [varnishes that look like crackled paint; a million black bottles have been sold this year] and we give customers what they want." He remembers overhearing a woman complaining to a Boots shop assistant that she couldn't find any white eyeliner – within weeks Barry had produced his own.

The company celebrates its 30th anniversary next year, relaunching a retro range with the original logo, for which Mero paid £10. A logo, a name that is the opposite of glamorous. A name that reads like a truck driver's autograph. Why "Barry M"? "Well," he says slowly, pursing his lips to show he's about to tell me a secret. "The labels were only tiny, so that's all we could fit." I gasp. "Plus, Charlie was a success, so I knew a man's name could sell. And though we manufacture everything in Britain, Barry M makes sense in every language. Barry," he says with feeling, "M."

We just got Catrice here! Looks very promising, can't wait to try more products especially lipsticks! My latest purchase:

^Catrice is my biggest beauty obsession, I have so many of their products it's almost embarrassing. I have the first of those smokey eyes sets you posted, I love it, it lasts all day without smudging or fading. And their nail polishes are better than every expensive one I've ever owned. I also like their powder and liquid foundation. I never knew it was only available in German-speaking regions before, glad to hear they're expanding.

And thanks for posting that article about Barry M, tigerrouge. His story is kind of funny, it all sounds so simple! I always end up getting a few Barry M nail polishes and eye shadows when I'm in the UK, the range of colors is just amazing.
