Built Up Hair Colour

I have been using brunette semi permanant colours on my hair for a few years now, but I think its all built up and now my hair is way too dark. How can I lighten my hair again, without using permanant colour? Is it possible?

colorzap will remove the color build up, but then you have to redye it to a color of your choosing
