I went to a restaurant last week in Montpelier, Vermont called 'Chef's Table', where they had various cakes made by students on display.

All of these remind me of the Barbie-cakes my friends' mothers did for their birthday parties---creamy, pink and pastel cakes which had a real Barbie doll standing on the centre of the cake.

My mum made me one for my 4th birthday too!

so many of these cakes are so beautiful, i love your wedding cake Hipkitten. my nana is amazing at cakes she does wedding cakes and all that for family and friends, the decorations are too beautiful to eat, for my mums birthday cake she made all of these tiny handmade sugar flowers to go on, i wouldnt have enough patience and would end up breaking it. edible art is definitely my faveourite type of art. i want someone to make a chocolate palace like in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

WOW. Look at this one!!!

This striking cake resembles a huge, single rose made up of 150 individual petals. It took four people two days to hand-make and paint each piece of it, a white Meyer lemon confection complemented by papaya and blood-orange buttercream filling.

I am a HUGE fan of cakes and cupcakes. In fact, they are probably my favorite foods But to be honest with you, I find the ridiculously excessive and ornately decorated ones a bit tacky. I appreciate the artistic talent involved in such designs, but I prefer the simpler aesthetic. If I'm eating a cupcake, I want it to look like a cupcake!

I know exactly what you mean! I love cupcakes! I drove 30 minutes through massive road construction for a little $3.00 gourmet cupcake. Seriously
