Can anyone advise on the brand "Wintle", an "haute couture" brand for men?

£3150 for non bespoke?

These people have a LOT of nerve..

i tried on a short wool jacket from wintle at harvey nicks, the quality and finish were better than neighboring pieces from other mainstream designers but it didnt justify the £2000 price tag- especially since this was last winter when louis vuitton and helmut lang had beautiful overcoats for about £1500.

I have a strong suspicion that much of this is hype .

As Prince says , why not go to Richard James , Kilgour , etc on Savile Row ?

You can get ANY item of men's classic clothing made BESPOKE here , at the highest prices , from these ' reinvented ' traditional tailoring shops , who sport ' design directors ' like James , or Carlo Brandelli at Kilgour ( late ' Kilgour , French and Standbury ' ) , Alexandre of Savile Row etc .

For the more ' realistic ' prices , you can get here , ' made to measure ' items of exactly the same ' modern ' cut , but jackets have ' fused ' interlinings , rather than hand stitched ' floating ' linings . For ALL but the ' bespoke fanatics ' , perfectly serviceable , and you don't have to wear it for 60 years and then pass it on to your grandson , to get the value !!!

There's a whole thread on this here :-

Read for info !!!

As i have said , it's ALL hype .
As Raijin says , £3150 for a ready to wear jacket !!!
You've GOT to be kidding .;)

You could get TWO made to measure GUCCI suits for that , which help towards Tom Ford's GUCCI pension pot , at the same time !!!

BTW B)

What happened to ALEXANDER McQUEEN bespoke suits from the venerable HUNTSMAN of Savile Row , at £6500 a pop ?:o

Long flown off into the ether .............

It reminds me of a men's tailoring ' shop ' set up by an Iranian gentleman on Bond Street , London , on the model of a similar enterprise on Rodeo Drive in LA , by the same gentleman in the roaringly affluent 80s , where pret a porter suits made from exotic cloths like vicuna and cashmere cost nearly £10,000 . You couldn't just go in , you had to be ' invited ' to buy items like silk ties at £500 , Italian hand-made crocodile loafers and rtw shirts at £1500 as Ronald Reagan did after his ' invite ' there , while visiting ' that Thatcher woman ' , taking Galanos - clad Nancy along with him .

Needless to say that I myself did not succeed in getting inside the shop !!!
When I tried to enter , I was told to go round to the back of the shop , where I would find the appropriate gear to start scrubbing out the dingy ' Staff rest room '.

Kit , the Montana - clad scrubber .

I really hate these invite-only places. Their stuff is like you said, ready to wear. It's not perfect, the quality at best is marginally better than other high end lines, and usually is very boring. Or else, the demand would be higher.

The people who work in those stores suck as well. They get all snobby for no reason. They're selling boring, non-innovative clothes. Also, you must remember that all these items were churned out in a factory/atelier somewhere by people who don't make that much money. The markup.... ah, the markup is ridiculous.

Stores like that are selling pieces, just because they're expensive. Note that the people that buy it aren't those that are particularly INTO fashion. They just want something expensive, and perceived as affluent and elitist.

that reminds me for real over the top menswear try elle menswear on wigmore street london. its by invitation only and the clothing best described as exotic- such as rare cloth and exotic skins. its popular with african dictators and arab royality. there window displays show outfits of one colour, so red fine cashmere suit with red roc belt and red alligator brief- i grimice every time i pass (thankfully margeret howell is just acoss the street for that good taste understated elegance)

There used to be a shop on Jremyn Street , just like you describe , called VINCCI , meant for middle-eastern royalty with cash to burn .

You could actually go in without invite , as I did venture in and bought a Claude Montana leather blouson , for my sins , in the 80s .

A shop for people with more money than taste , unlike my good self .

BTW ,

We'd better stay on topic , otherwise Lena  or Soft  will be on our tails . :innocent:

With the DIOR HOMME thread growing exponentially , it came to me last evening that LVMH are trying the same trick .
Wasn't there a three - quarter length jacket , tailored in a COTTON material that cost $7500 dollars , in the DIOR HOMME S/S 04 collection ?
There's a pic on the site somwhere .

This is it , i think .

The WINTLE people obviously think that they can try the same LVMH trick and get away with such outrageous prices . :o

Just a thought .
