Mrs Sarkozy goes back to the day job - taking centre stage to perform for Nelson Mandela
19th July 2009
As people around the world began to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday, Carla Bruni took time off from being Mrs Sarkozy to rehearse ahead of her performance at a concert in his honour.
The 41-year-old - whose day job is often forgotten now that she's the first lady of France - will be dueting will former Eurythmics musician Dave Stewart at the star-studded celebration.
Centre stage: Carla Bruni looked happy to be performing during her rehearsal with Dave Stewart
Strumming an acoustic guitar, the former model looked relaxed taking centre stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
For the rehearsal the mother-of-one was dressed head-to-toe in black.
However, being an international sartorial icon, there's no doubt she'll be the most glamorous lady onstage when it comes to the actual performance.
Gloria Gaynor and Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy put their all into the rehearsal
Stewart revealed to the Daily Telegraph ahead of the concert: 'Carla's excited and a bit nervous. But she thinks it's going to be great and she is really looking forward to it.'
In addition to the pair's Anglo-Franco contribution, the event will also feature performances from Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Gloria Gaynor, Aretha Franklin, Cyndi Lauper and the Soweto Gospel Choir.
