PARTIAL French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his reported new wife Carla Bruni are planning a 'Romeo and Juliet' style honeymoon following their secret wedding.
The influential L'Est Républicain newspaper, which has close links with Mr Sarkozy's former wife Cecilia, said the ceremony took place at the Elysée Palace in Paris last Thursday.

The couple are set to honeymoon near the northern Italian city of Verona, the romantic setting for William Shakespeare's tragedy.

Miss Bruni - who is said to be obsessed with the tragic tale of two lovers - has booked a suite at an "intimate country hotel" in San Vito di Negrar, in the wine valley of Valpolicella.

The pair were pictured on the terrace of La Lanterne, the 18th Century presidential residence and former hunting lodge in the grounds of the Palace of Versailles, south west of Paris.
"Speedy Sarko", as he is known in France, sipped coffee with his bride, the supermodel turned pop singer who is now determined to live up to her new title of First Lady.

Good for them- I would say they could both do worse, and no doubt have...! ;) She comes from a wealthy family as I recall, so I'm sure she is practiced in the social graces and will be a fine First Lady...Bravo!! :woot::flower:

With this in mind, the 40-year-old will be taking royal etiquette lessons this week as she prepares to meet the Queen at Windsor Castle.
"How to address a British monarch" and "When to curtsey" will all be part of the instruction offered by senior courtiers at the Elysée Palace, her new Paris home.
The couple accordingly took part in a 20 minute ceremony at the Elysée attended by around 20 family and friends and toasted with orange juice.

Now, however, the new Mrs Sarkozy is said to be "thrilled" that she will be able to meet the Queen as an equal.
"She's greatly looking forward to the trip," said a close friend from the Paris fashion industry.
"Carla is a great fan of all things British, including the Queen, and wants to make a big impression. This is the reason she will be taking royal etiquette lessons."
The Sarkozy state visit will begin on 26 March at Windsor Castle and will last for two days.
But, despite the wedding, the new Mrs Sarkozy's chequered past has already certainly raised eyebrows in royal circles.

Carla describes 'immediate' love she felt for French president
13 FEBRUARY 2008
President Sarkozy's new wife, Carla Bruni, says she knew she wanted to marry the French premier from their very first meeting last November. "Between Nicolas and me, it wasn't quick, it was immediate," she revealed, adding: "For us, it even seemed slow. But lovers have their own sense of time."
Speaking in the French news magazine L'Express, the Italian-born former model explained: "It seems that with him, nothing bad can happen". She goes on to say: "With him, an anxiousness that I've felt since childhood disappears. So I am the First Lady until the end of my husband's mandate, and his wife until death."
The couple, who wed after a nine-week courtship, divide their time between her home in Paris and the Elyseés Palace's presidential apartments, where Carla, who's now pursuing a singing career, is working on her third album.
Conscious of reports circulating about her colourful love life in the past, Mr Sarkozy's bride was also at pains to reassure the French public she takes her new position seriously.
"I am normal, serious, conscientious, simple - even if I come from a privileged background," says Carla, who will make her first official trip in her new role when she travels to the UK with Mr Sarkozy on March 26.

The model-turned-singer, who says she "doesn't like divorce", has given her first interview since marrying Nicolas Sarkozy two weeks ago. Carla emphasised she is "serious" about supporting her new husband as France's First Lady and plans to stay married for the rest of her life.
