Celine S/S 2020 Paris

I couldn't even last through more than three looks on the livestream before I closed it. This is just depressing but I guess Heidi's new Celine woman reflects that, looking like she's always in a bad mood. No thanks.

The clothes themselves are nice but the level of denim makes this look very highstreet, he should move his show to LA.

^ LOL.

I have never been, nor will I ever understand the cult behind this man; be it his designs or photography. Or perhaps I was too young/not into fashion during his Dior Homme era to be able to really appreciate him.

I will concede that despite some of the strong/slightly s***ty Miss Sixty 2006 boho vibes the runway images give me initially, on closer look many of the pieces look really luxe...the detailing looks wonderful and the first black dress on Steinberg is one of the best things I've seen in this fashion month.

I always thought that he had a large enough following to have his own brand. He basically has the same look wherever he goes anyway. But I guess he’d rather work at a house with history (too many people’s dismay).

While we are talking about Hedi fans, I saw a student, at one of the European fashion schools I visited, in head to toe Celine by Hedi. Even a Celine logo bag, sunglasses and the same haircut as Hedi’s male models. It was kind of surreal lol.

I'll give him that this collection is very much in tune with the 'really old Celine', it shows that he's been digging in the archives just to show that the oLd CéLiNe is a matter of past yet he knows better what can be called with that name. What's more, I think he's one of the most successful designers out there due to that lack of pushing anything forward. Actually his look is the easiest one to copy in everyday life and that's a good thing imho.

While this isn't my kind of fashion, in my opinion Hedi is at least honest with himself, I mean he doesn't try to be so original or avantgarde for the sake of proving that he can be being innovative. Instead, he's just perfecting what's already done and creating a mood, a whole universe.

Butch woman for 2020.
At this point I've got to say Freja Beha type of heroine femme is an all time classic. This collection reaffirmed that.
Same as what I said in his menswear show this season. Really don't care about Celine by him at all, but I need a 2000s retro to happen right now. Hedi's on board with that? ok. got it. add to cart.

I said that Tom Ford’s collection was lazy...
I don’t know how to describe this.

I feel like I saw the clothes that didn’t made the cut for the FW collection. They are really going to sell the same collection for a whole year.

Great quality is what we should expect at those prices...It shouldn’t be a justification for mediocrity.

The presentation was cool and Hedi, as the good stylist that he is, made his proposition convincing.

I didn’t expect anything but I didn’t expect to be disappointed so soon after the little spark his FW collection gave me.

Vanessa Seward must be furious. She thought she cornered the whole 70’s replica market, but forgot you are nothing without a name. She reworked every single one of these looks in the last years, without much success it seems, but ends up seeing it sublimated by a Celine/Hedi filter that she’d powerless to compete.

I kind of like it, not because it’s good fashion, but because his consistency and commitment to the image of Celine he has in mind. The actual clothes look nicer than the previous 2 seasons, even though they are still well-made and super pricey goodwill store stuff. He has this extreme obsession with classic LA rock style which I am not even sure really has that much relevance in younger generations here in LA anymore. He is certainly a very talented and stubborn artist, but that doesn’t necessarily make him a truly outstanding fashion designer. If he’s really trying to build up a world with his work at Celine, like someone claimed in this thread, I am afraid that world maybe already out of date.

After these past 2-3 collections I think it's safe to say he was pushed towards this direction by execs. His debut is light years away from this, but I guess the sales didn't come through and they're expecting to double the revenue.

I tried watching the livestream but after the 10th pair of flared jeans I turned it off. This is a whole lot of merchandise that should have stayed in a trunkshow or showroom, these clothes don't belong on a runway.

Funny how Slimane and Vaccarello are targetting the same customers now.

Celine and Saint Laurent are very similar I think this season. Of course, Saint Laurent is a bit sexier.

This Celine show is about 70s normcore haha.

True, I still remember the backlash that collection got, not only on here, but from both critics and consumers as well. I can see him going 'You wanted old? Here's old. Now, shut up!'

If his tenure at Saint Laurent is anything to go by, I doubt we'll see a shift in direction anytime soon.

How are people defending this collection? I don't understand.
I'd rather a really crap but unique collection that this mundane lazy collection. This is an embarrassment to everything that Celine used to be. Sure, people can wear this on the street but the fact that a lot of these pieces will cost five figures or more...pffttt! What a joke.
Zara should hire him instead.

I don't want to be that person who keep complaining about Heidi. I do and will always adore his tailoring. The impeccable construction of his clothes. But these qualities are to be expected at any luxury house, his is just more superior. These collection just falls flat because it lacks the desire and excitement. It's like what I'm looking at Gucci now. I feel like everything looks recycles, rethought, reshaped, reused. Nothing new. Just a new formula of the same idea.

I recently went to a Celine store to get a wallet. I was surprised how cold it makes me feel. It feels sterile. The leather goods are not as desirable as before. Pheobe's stores, while it has that cold gallery space vibe, it felt warmer with plants and stone.

No Hedi wasn’t pressured by the execs because he is literally the darling of Sydney Toledano, Bernard & Alexandre Arnault... They see him like a messiah so he can’t do wrong for them...

But I think that indeed the less than enthusiastic reaction of his first collection from the press, the retailers and customers had an impact on the growth of Celine and so quickly, they have introduced the perfume and stuff.

This collection must have been easy to produce as it’s literally the same patronage as for the FW. I don’t even imagine how the Resort looks like...

Phoebe did very pragmatic and 70’s bourgeois inspired collections for her precollections. Her resort 2011 comes immediately to my mind. She made you want to be that woman because she refreshed something that was familiar.

Hedi is just selling you a look. Because I think the main interest in this thing is to wear the whole outfit...

I want to rant about the French press for always giving a pass to Hedi for pouring mediocrity on the runway but i’m tired.

And yes, @Les_Sucettes , Vanessa should be upset...More than that, Jean Touitou too. Knowing that he is not really a fan of Hedi, I can only imagine how he felt watching this lol!
