I've always kind of hated Chanel costume jewelry.

It makes me think of "Ladies of a Certain Age" with huge, brittle hairdos, coral colored lipstick and nailpolish, and a tendency to wear slightly too much perfume and call their husbands "Mr." (as in Mr. Witherspoon, Mr. Duncan, Mr. Chase, etc.)

The chains and the little coin-y things and the fake pearls and the flowers. It's so Dyansty-gone-twee. Very not for me, and especially not at $200-1000 a piece. Urgh!

Chanel does make some really, really cute costume jewelry. Some of it is a bit too logo-happy for my liking but the majority of it is okay. There was one thing in particular from f/w 01, a pistol necklace, that I love.

I like this necklace, it's a special edition made for the new Las Vegas store. All of thier necklaces are basically the same, but I still like the cute charms.

I love these pearls, so chic.

I used to think so too but lately have started to really like some of the collections...I also like some of the more whimsical items like this vintage necklace:

i've been wanting the gun brooch ever since that collection was shown... still haven't gotten it... ... a friend of mine has the belt... it's gorgeous!!

I knew a fantastic Polish jeweller who struggled to sell cutting-edge fine jewellery for Chanel's kind of prices. It's all a bit sickening...

Why, thank you, we should go shopping in London, we seem to like much of te same stuffB) But if you also is the same size as me THEN it can be a problem.

i think it looks SO good with navy, or a more classy outfit.

I bought it at Chanel on Sloane St. For around £150.

Thanks for the info I really want it too, but I wont because I cant afford £150 for a brooch even if it is Chanel. We seem to have the same taste

You are sooo right, because the type you describe are the real clients of Chanel costume jewellery, of course. However, on 16 year old waifs, the jewellery looks striking, but no young woman would ever ever dream of wearing such jewellery.

Oh I loved those hair chains, the way they moved was so fabulous....I'm sad to hear they shortened them for retail though.

I think Chanel clientel has changed more then you know it in the last 5 years. I have almost never stepped into a boutique or their area at Neiman Marcus and seen people over 40 there these days. There are lots of ladies in their 20's-30s with the purses. I do admit though, most of their conservative tots are carried by 35+. I never see the 2.55 bag around.

I never see anyone with the jewlery, but I know that is going to change. It is incredibly playful and fun. The charms bracelets and necklaces would look silly on an older women. The pearls are often to over the top and daring for anyone more mature to wear, as well as to logo-ish.

I think in the 70's-90's Chanel used to much gold and looked pretty tacky. Old women would buy that stuff up. I think the vintage pieces can be played up and used again in a strange couture curious fashionista way.
