i just got the cerf!!! at chanel in bal harbour, FL. i looooove it. so timeless, so gorgeous and luxurious, i'm totally in love with it. i liked it when i first saw it but when i actually saw it in person and touched it and tried it on... wow!!! (excuse me, i'm a little over-excited). now trying to decide wether i should go for another Balenciaga in one of the fall colors or to get the red quilted chanel in lambskin, the one featured in all the ads and all the magazines. i think it might be a limited release, or so i heard, read??? if anyone knows the bag i'm referring to and its availability, please let me know. thanx

You mena the red one to celebrate 50 years of the 2.55? I think its limited edition too only 800 or something like that was made. I think the Chanel is of course, much more classic and a better investment than the Balenciaga.

I did not think they were very hard to get either, when my friend got her's they had every color, and plenty of stock. This was less than a year ago. I can not imagine that it got THAT popular since then, even if Ashley Olsen has one now.

mbardot: yeah i got it in black and it was the last one except the display item, which i personally hate buying display items, if um gonna pay this much for a bag i want it brand new and untouched. the SA said they were flying off the shelf real fast. i think you may want to try calling them though, or one of the NY stores, i think they will have it. Bal Harbour did have them in pink as well if you're interested.

In my opinion the cerf is hard to find because they were released and then discontinued and then released again recently, so the stock was off for a year or so. However, I've been informed that most stores should have plenty within in a couple of weeks. I think that anytime a designer makes a classy tote it's going to be popular, and of course black always goes first.

In my case, I want to purchase through a Saks boutique because I have someone I work with, so that's probably why it's been harder for me to find one. A couple of bags have turned up, but they have either been defective or display peices, and like NY City girl, I refuse to buy a display bag.

I did talk to my SA today and she said she is getting a shipment this week sometime....so yipee...finally!

"cerf" is the official name (at least it was when it first came out) and I think it means "deer" in French (presumably because it's made of deerskin). the Chanel SA who was helping me referred to it as the Chanel Birkin -- don't know if all SAs use that term or if it was just her own shorthand.
