Chanel Cruise 2023 Monte Carlo

On the other hand, maybe they do need to keep up this act because... Not that HRH Collection is the word of god (maybe lol), but I kind of agree with her that designer bags are not the vibe anymore. This is all cyclical and I feel like we're on the tail end of this. I believe slowly, more and more people will start to think the same and "designer" sh*t is gonna be out the window. Chanel better grab the easy cash now before it's too late lol

Yeah, somehow everyone started hyperfixating on handbags over the past several years, brands exploited that for short-term profits, and they sort of lost their cachet. Harder to make the case that any of these bags are markers of taste or quality when the worst and most classless influencer you can think of probably has a slew of them. With that kind of budget, I'd much rather have something handmade and one-off, or at least with no in-your-face branding.

It’s super tacky but at the same time I had no expectations.
It’s funny that 15 years later, I still have my pieces from the Paris Monte-Carlo collection. I do not know if in 15 years, the key pieces from this collection will be as good. The dressmaking is still weak from Virginie and that’s what I regret the most even if today it’s a category that is totally out of my reach!

That being said, the dress on Louise de Chevigny, the bags and the sneakers are good. I’m curious to see what the GP print looks like in stores.

But everything has been said tbh. I’m waiting for the Vuitton collection…It’s literally the only mega brand’s RTW I’m still anticipating.

Chanel has became into a theme-park. It´s like an expensive version of Disneyland, where every single thing looks like a cheap parody of itself...feels like Moschino doing Chanel.
The irony is Moschino doing an actual parody of Chanel would be better than Virginie's Chanel

there has been an upgrade for sure.
since she started, this and the previous collection are her best collections. allow me to make clear that this isn’t a compliment.

the tweed continues to be the strongest pieces (wouldn’t expect less) and it seems that accessories look/ are better too.
the styling has also improved so maybe that’s why everything looks nicer but by no means it’s great.

Virginie has 60 years. I wonder if she will work until retirement age or longer. In a video for Vogue USA, she said that she prefers to spend her free time in the countryside. She seems like a nice person for whom this is just a regular job.

Less offensive than I anticipated but by no means good. Her evening wear is soooo forgettable, it should be the climax of the show but they’re so matronly and sad…the daywear is passable (and less tacky than usual), excluding the tweed pants which are a hard pass, they remain hideous.

there's just something très chic about this collection...might be my favorite collection from Virginie

I see what you mean but I think a lot of it is the styling.

I believe it's styled by Max Pearmain. Echoes quite a bit of Carlyne Cerf's styling for Chanel back in the '90s.

This is better than her earlier offerings. But it's still not so great.

Now this I KNOW is SELLING SELLING SELLING SELLING. Like crazy. I think that's more a testament to Chanel's marketing machine but clothes nobody wants don't sell, so I give Virginie her due credit.

It seems to be slowly getting better, a little more like the Chanel we know and less of a weird hybrid mix of old Escada and an upscale Comptoir des Cottoniers.

Whatever moans and groans we might have, Virginie ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

From the after party alone, it’s one of those shows I wished I attended. La Vigie is quite major!

I honestly just thought this was wonderful from start to finish, from the teasers leading up to the collection by Roman & Sofia Coppola to those elegant black satin heels which finished off the looks nicely. The location took my breath away, and La Vigie in indeed quite major, @Lola701!

Per usual with a Virginie Viard collection, the devil is always in the details (even right down to the date of the show which was 5-5-2022) and there's just an endless amount here. The accessories are sublime and loved the splashes of red throughout. I loved the Monaco Grand Prix references and the inspiration taken from the Casino de Monte-Carlo. The beauty styling was also gorgeous, thought the hairstyles on the girls with longer hair was just... perfect (running out of adjectives here to describe my admiration for it all).

My only complaint is that Vogue Runway hasn't uploaded any detail shots!

I don't know why, but I always have the impression that Virginie's pre-collections are stronger than her main and Haute Couture collections. It confuses me immensely.
