Karl has done RTW collections that are 100x more impressive and Haute Couture-worthy than this. It's not ugly, just very repetitive and boring - something you can count on Karl to do every season now.

well, well, karl certainly knows how to cause a stir even when he doesn't cause a stir. the mumbling about "this is not couture" seemed to get started with the armani prive thread, but it's certainly sparked a wildfire in this thread. the uninitiated apparently equate beaded evening gowns with the couture. in that world, elie saab stands as the king of the couture and he lords over all of his "couture" minions like marchesa, monique lhuillier, and victoria beckham.

back in the real world, the couture is about more than loaning out flashy gowns to red carpet starlets during awards' show season. it's about creating new silhouettes with the best fabrics in the world employing the most expensive techniques on earth. and for goodness sakes, its chanel. when have we ever expected anything BUT the most conservative offerings in couture. if you want the flash and the avant, you go gaultier or givenchy, NOT chanel. you want a gown that photographs well? you go to saab, NOT chanel. you go to chanel because you want CHANEL. and this collection was pure, aggressive, unapologetic chanel. the lion is a fitting symbol for this collection indeed.

and, it's no wonder that anna wintour looked positively glowing in the front row, this silhouette almost called her name what with the anna-wintour-sleeves and the anna-wintour-skirts, these clothes appeal to women who mean business and want their couture wardrobes to communicate the same.

Just because this is wearable doesn't make it any less Haute Couture. I feel like people are confusing HAUTE COUTURE with UNWEARABLE. Apparently only Dior's 10 meters in diameter ball gowns and Givenchy's see through nightgowns with beading on t*ts and *** qualify as Haute Couture.

I'm actually liking this collection, maybe bordering on loving but I feel it'll take some time for that. I see some medieval quality in here with a dash of maturity. I also love how the girls look like they got out of bed with the hair & makeup and just put on these clothes and off they went looking fabulous. Overall, there's a ton of hits and misses. Especially that dress on Siri, complete fail. It's absolutely gross looking. My favorites have to be the dresses, especially the one on Lisanne with the purple and grey sequined stripes & checkerboard thing going on. Looks completely out of a fairy tail. Another small factor about the collection I don't like is that some looks look like they could be costumes. They're just not appealing whatsoever. I still want to know what significance the lion has to the collection.

The reason why everyone's complaining about this is because he's done so much more Couture-worthy collections than this. After looking at this you feel kind of insulted by being expected to pretend that this actually something worth noticing. Sure it's signature Chanel and it's probably tugging on the Chanel customers' puppet strings but what about everyone else? Karl is doing a great job making Chanel biased towards his clients and away from everyone else. Shouldn't Haute Couture be at least a TINY bit more adventurous? I'd like Chanel so much more if it was more like that.
