Being the daughter of a musical genius is never an easy thing. But I think it is clear that Serge and Charlotte were deeply inspirational for each other. However difficult it was for her to grow up with Serge Gainsbourg, it is impossible to imagine Charlotte being the way she is today without the influence of her father. What a pair!

It's sad in a way to think how much pain they probably caused each other, but for the rest of us, the results are sublime. From my standpoint, they are both heroes of artistic excellence. Great pain is always the wellspring of great art.
