Learn how to talk proper, areet? Simon Cowell advises Cheryl Cole to take elocution lessons ahead of U.S. move
She's hoping to take the US by storm – but there’s a final bit of polishing to be done before glamorous Newcastle-born WAG Cheryl Cole can be unleashed on the Americans.
X Factor judge Simon Cowell, who is keen to land a TV presenting job for the 25-year-old Girls Aloud star and wife of footballer Ashley Cole, has advised her to have elocution lessons amid concerns that Americans might struggle to understand what she’s saying.
‘Simon is a realist and he knows one or two things need to change,’ says a well-placed source.
‘He sees her strong Geordie accent as the key problem. It makes him laugh but he knows American audiences simply won’t understand a word she says.’
Cowell has already recommended a voice coach in Los Angeles to help take the edge off her accent, says the source. It seems Professor Cowell is the Henry Higgins to Cheryl’s Eliza Doolittle.
Meanwhile, Cheryl and Ashley have apparently vowed to put their baby plans on hold until she knows their marriage is rock solid.
A friend claimed: 'She has had to reconsider the whole baby plan now. She feels the time is just not right.
'It is really hard for her because she wants a family more than anything in the world, but she is a clever girl and won’t bring a baby into this world until both her and Ash are ready. He has a lot of proving to do before then.'
The couple almost split last year over allegations that he had cheated on Cheryl with hairdresser Aimee Walton.
In an interview with British Vogue magazine this year, Cheryl recalled the tabloid reports about his alleged infidelity 'horrendous'.
She said: 'But look, Ashley's young and he's got a young mentality - for his age anyway.
'He's learning. He has a beautiful soul, he's a really nice guy and I'm not stupid, you know. I'm really not.
'I know what I'm doing. I've had enough knocks in the past to know what the circumstances are, and I'm happy. If other people aren't, then that's their problem.'
The couple married in a lavish ceremony in July 2006 after dating for two years.
