I notice this keep popping up....whether it's full on or just little trinkets or two...

A lot of plastic things, kid-type clothes, etc. I see it throughout the movie the Royal Tenenbaums; they all wear kidlike clothes, especially Margot:

Or do you mean whimisical dressing?
I certainly see that in a few designer houses, and Marni immediately comes to mind when I think "whimisical".

Poufy skirts:

Asymmetrical necklaces with a hand-crafted feel:

Bright colours and brights. (This is less evident in the F/W 05, but I personally feel that the whimiscial vibe, though toned-down, is still pretty evident):

Well,it's been going on for a quite a while amongst the indies. Bernhard Willhelm is really the first to sort of revolutionise the idea of childishness. There's also designers like Jurgi Persoons with his one-off style stitches on sophisticated clothes....and Dirk Van Saene is another good example.

It's rearing it's head....and I admit that I am quite attracted to it all ;)

Charles Anastase,Peter Jensen,Tess Giberson,Robert Normand,Walter Van Beirendonck,Jessica Ogden,Cosmic Wonder and Susan Cianciolo. Just to name a few.

I'll post some pictures later....glad somebody brought this in.

me too, scott!, this is definitely a style i tend to apply on a regular basis.

If you are a Charles Anastase fan, you might like the musician/harp player Joanna Newsom. She is almost an Anastase muse personified. Her singing is...um, unique, but don't let her child-like voice put you off. Her songs are incredibly intelligent, poetic and surprisingly moving. I don't listen to that genre but she just grows on you.

nice thread, thanks for the good examples everyone. this is something i really like not as overloaded-trying-to-be-young but just small quirky references to childhood. i'm always drawn to childhood:ninja:

that's what 'the people in my hair' (from what are you wearing) are for me .... i often integrate small items that i once played with in my wardrobe or room decoration at least...:heart:

Yeah,I think its best as a nuance. I think that's one of the reasons I related myself more to Jurgi Persoons' style because he juxtaposed that naïvete with a more grown up,sharp, sophisticated silhouette. It had a wonderful affect,I think. Plus,it had quite macabre sensibility :ninja:

I agree with anna - touches of childhood are great. I think it only really works if the person has a slight and fragile child like look already though. Anna - you have that look and it works on you and I think it works on me becuase I have a similar physique . But it doesn't work on a stronger body shape or on womanly curves. Thats just my opinion though.

"Never get so attached to a poem, you
Forget truth that lacks lyricism"

"And the signifieds butt heads with the signifiers
And we all fall down slack-jawed to marvel at words
When across the sky sheet the impossible birds
In a steady illiterate movement homewards"

Click on the thumbnails to see details of the pictures/clothes. It's rare, but I do envy this precocious poet's talent as well as her truly original style.
