College Campuses

UChicago's architecture was directly copied from Cambridge and Oxford.

I think Yale and Princeton in second has two of the nicest college campuses in the U.S.

UChicago's architecture was directly copied from Cambridge and Oxford.

And it shows. It looks so out of place and foreign in the neighborhood. especially since the school and buildings are not as old as the architecture suggests.

don't say that uchicago is in a bad part of chicago before living here.
hyde park does have a lot to offer the people that are willing to look for it.

the neighborhood of hyde park is not built around the existence of the university. also, the community has many reasons for disliking the university: pompous a******s trying to take over the entire community without regard to the other people that live in the area.

Well I won't go there untill next year so I guess I will be able to judge on it's surroundings then. On the other hand, I didn't meant that hyde park didn't have anything to offer, it is just that the University IS in a less safe neighborhood, I've been told that by everyone I know there..

the red one's gorgeous

have u ever gone inside?
are the brown buildings part of the red building?

^that's beauuuuuuuuuutiful.

I always liked traditional colleges.

As I. It seems that the college needs a history and have been established for sometime for buildings to look like that.

its the same college just from different angles its really beautiful... georgian town houses in one part and red bricked on the other .. its all the same uni but differnt buidings added at differnt times :flower:

I also love that very English strong red brick. Beautiful.

One of my favorite college buildings, the Gehry designed Stata Center at MIT

that's so great.. didn't know he'd done colleges :woot:

winterise - never expected to see my exam hall appear on tFS :heart:

here's some more from Trinity College, Dublin. The best thing is that since it's 500 years old, the city as it currently stands was built around it.. so while it's secluded and quiet within, all the shopping streets and life is directly outside the door.

^ so horror movie-like :p

in love with the library !

Stata Centre looks like it would be a lot of fun..

yeah I think the State Center is really interestingly designed on the interior as well. It has a lot of impromptu gathering space with chalkboards etc. so groups can just go out and get together and do work. They also have a lot of wall space because they know that when people are working on laptops they prefer to have their back to the wall. Things like that.

Ah Trinity College. So so beautiful

the stata center unfortunately is not nearly that good-looking in real life. it's kind of considered an eyesore to be honest.

Well the first image is almost cartoon like so I agree that's probably not an accurate representation of it, but I still enjoy the aesthetic and more importantly the integration of function in it's shape.

I have to say the two most beautiful college campus belong to Oxford and Cambridge, hands down.

I also love that very English strong red brick. Beautiful.

:woot: That building is amazing!

Here's the university at which I spent 1.5 mediocre years.. Loyola University New Orleans. It was pretty small compared to Tulane (which was next door) but I suppose cozy in its own way.. though just not the school for me ultimately!

^I have friends at Loyola New Orleans!

One of my favorite college campus is the Frederick Law Olmstead designed University of Chicago. Here are some shots taken by me last autumn:
