Confirmed: The 65th Golden Globes Are Cancelled

^I don't think it's their decision. They haven't any choice.

Exactly. Its not the actors decision. These actors know that if they do turn up on the red carpet and cross the picket line, they will get the **** beaten out of them by the strikers.

I am so hacked off. I can’t believe they are just going to do it this way. Like I said on Page 2, why can’t they just wait and have them when the strike finishes. I have given up hope for the Oscars.

On JJB.com, people are saying that it’s very interesting that the SAGS (beside the fact that they are buddies with WAG) are going ahead when they aren’t as popular or as acknowledged as the Globes (& Oscars). This whole thing will make their show stand out more and get more ratings.

The SAGS will never surpass the Globes. You never read or hear an actor referred to as “two time SAG winner – Joe Bloggs” do you. Even the BAFTAs are more important.

it's official...from associated press...

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association said Monday that the traditional Golden Globe Awards ceremony has been canceled and will be replaced with a news conference format. The move came after striking writers threatened to picket the event.

"We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television," said Jorge Camara, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. "We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year's Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled."

The show had been set to air on Sunday.

Faced with a threat by actors to boycott the ceremony rather than cross picket lines, the association and NBC were forced to adopt another approach for the ceremony.

This is so depressing! I'm going to miss the red carpet fashion like crazy. I don't understand why they couldn't hold the ceremony without it being televised, because then they wouldn't have to worry about a script or breaking any rules. I think the people that win deserve to have a ceremony. A press conference just sounds so lame.

I really wish the two sides could come to an agreement. The economic cost of this is immense. So many people that work in Hollywood on lower salaries aren't having an income right now and I'm sure that it having a profound negative impact on their lives.

Well i am at least glad they have made it official. And although i will miss the red carpet,i am more worried because of all the new shows i love, there will be none airing anymore. :(
And they have plenty of time to work things out before Oscars,at least i hope so.

That's the problem. The cost of this is not immense enough. The companies are thinking long-term, and the potential for very considerable profits that interweb is almost guaranteed to yield in the future for entertainment makes the monetary loss caused by the writer's strike going on right now seem expendable. This is why something like boycotting the Golden Globes is necessary, the strike has to expand it's influence to other industries (like the fashion industry, which is not going to be happy about the lack of red carpet) so there is more pressure on the companies.

... rumors are rampant that there will be no parties held as well.

I just feel sorry for the first time nominees who will not bask in the glory of their accomplishments.

:(Noooo!

oh well:unsure:
its ok I really dont care much for them oscars are more my route anyway.

They would'nt dare could you imagine not only the actors but the STYLIST's who would go crazy!!! hide indeed!!!

this is actually fantastic for the strike. the awards shows are huge promotional juggernauts for movies. without the shows, the winning movies aren't going to get the post-win box office bump. Considering UA's agreement with the strikers and rumors that other studios like Weinberg and Lionsgate are also striking deals, there may be an end in sight to this ordeal.

Just reschedule it. I mean it's not like you have to make the Globes or Oscars at the beginning of the year...
