Confirmed: The 65th Golden Globes Are Cancelled

this is actually fantastic for the strike. the awards shows are huge promotional juggernauts for movies. without the shows, the winning movies aren't going to get the post-win box office bump. Considering UA's agreement with the strikers and rumors that other studios like Weinberg and Lionsgate are also striking deals, there may be an end in sight to this ordeal.

ugh Weinsteins. total brain fart

^^They should reschedule it, although that woudln't necessarily help in ending the strike. I agree with smartarse, I don't think its fair for the writers to ask all the nominees to boycott the Golden Globes on behalf of their strike. The award show honors performances from the past year, before the writers' strike started. And honestly, the writing of award shows isn't that great anyway. Can't they just present without the mildly funny intros?

I'm sooo disappointed they really canceled, i can't even find the right words for this....

I just feel sorry for the first time nominees who will not bask in the glory of their accomplishments.

That is exactly what I was thinking.
I hope the witers know that these greedy big producer bosses will not budge. My theory is that these big shot bosses are just waiting for the strikers to become bankrupt, then they will have to return to work whether they want to or not.

this is so bad!
i love awards show.they better sort this mess out by the time oscars come in.
awww,no red carpet outfits this year, damn it.
and i feel bad for ellen page and oter first-tme nominees, this isnt fair for them

It's incredible the power of this strike though, it's really groundbreaking stuff. As much as I will miss the glitz of the red carpet, I am completely behind the writers.

As mentioned earlier, though, this is really ripping off the people who've worked hardto get recognition.

What's the writers beef with the GGs anyways? Or are they just pissed at the world right now? I know that the SAGs are still going on...

^The GG's are a high profile event that benefits the studios greatly. Getting it shut down is a big coup for them.

This is really starting to take its toll on the industry...they need to settle like now...

It's kind of sad that NBC and ABC didn't settle since they will be broadcasting the two major award shows...

the parties get cancelled, too
http://www.imdb.com/news/flash/
While the news conference is expected to go on as planned, airing Sunday night at 9pm ET, NBC's other programming was still in question, and more crucially, many of the large-scale parties were canceled as news broke throughout Hollywood.
NBC Universal, Warner Bros. and HBO officially canceled their parties, and according to Variety it was expected that Fox Searchlight and the Weinstein Company would follow suit -- thus insuring few if any celebrities would be in attendance of any kind for the Golden Globes.
Adding insult to injury, the Writers Guild may still picket the Globes news conference, with the Screen Actors Guild expected to show support by encouraging members not to attend. An official statement from the WGA was not available at press time.

I sympathize with the writers, but I can't help but feel sorry for the people nominated for awards. what an incredible disappointment. It's like saying graduation is canceled to a graduating senior.

I actually have a difficult time sympathizing for the writers, considering they make considerably more money than most Americans and are just striking for more. That said, they don't make nearly as much money as the execs above them. But when Costume Designers, Lighting Technicians, et all loose their jobs and paychecks, fired from shows that they won't be getting residuals from... that's unfair.

WORD!

Hopefully this won't carry on to the Oscars. What a disaster. I don't watch the Golden Globes, but they'd better not touch the Academy Awards.

where do you get that information that they are making all this money? if you are a writer on a major show, sure you are making money but most member of the guild aren't and even the members that are making money are making far less than the actors and studios.
