Cover Rumor Thread

Blimey, Anna!! Not even waiting for the dust to settle??? How disgusting! It was obviously to broker a cover for Melania, or even to force Graydon for a VF one (if not both, rumour has it Graydon may need to report to her going forward). The woman clearly have zero scruples, a true capitalist at heart. Her and Kanye are more alike than I thought, and I hope they'll get what's coming to them.

Angered by this. The day she gets the cover for Vogue would be the day that I would end my collection for US Vogue. I may be alone, but I will not stand by this.

That she can switch her loyalty that fast, it's astonishing. All for the numbers indeed.

This isn't just about numbers! It's about Power, and access to it, no matter who ends up in charge!! I am always amazed when people believe in the PR version public figures put out of themselves. Anna Wintour has always been opportunistic, two faced, hypocritical, and Power hungry. She built her career & maintained it on all of those things!

So of course she would beat Kanye in the run to the Trump Tower! I fully expected her to cover both Melania & Ivanka, but i thought she would use some more diplomacy.

I predict Sept for Melania, ha!

I am not surprised at all... yet, the publication like WWD should be able to differentiate between Trump's ex and present wives...

^ What do you mean? They mention Anna giving Melania the cover, and its true. Remember her in that Dior HC dress? And Ivana was on the cover while they were divorced or in the process of it.

Gross lack of morals and integrity aside... is it really good business for them? I think we can say that the vast majority of Vogue's core readership was heavily pro-Hillary and anti-Trump, are they really interested to see and read about Melania? Despite her soon-to-be title, she falls even below the Kardashians in the scale to me. Hillary and Michelle are women that not only have a sense of class and elegance that their tiles required and is compatible to the magazine, but are also highly intelligent and intriguing women that other women looked up to. I don't see that going on for Mrs. Trump, she would get more acceptance on the likes of People Magazine.

Haha! I'm growling at this "totally surprising" news. Of course Anna will now try to get a Trump on the cover. They're the most prolific - and arguably, powerful - family in the world right now. Who's Anna Wintour? What's Vogue? People here have a somewhat inflated opinion of the status both of those carry in the real world.

I hope Trump humiliates her like he did Mitt Romney.

My thoughts exactly. Really interested to see the demographic breakdown of US Vogue. Because I'm assuming that their demo is heavily composed of a majority who indeed voted for her or at least disliked him. So I wanna see how this plays out. But tbh, on a personal note, I seriously feel like this is an alienation of a lot (or maybe some including myself) of their audience.

With that being said, I am inclined to 100% agree with Miss Dalloway. Their demographic and this move doesn't add up. So it must boil down to power/influence.

It's going to force some designer's hands for sure. Those who have said they won't be dressing her, are they going to actively not send in for a cover shoot for US Vogue? I can't imagine many brands will decide to make that decision unless they are very, very confident in their relationship with Anna/US Vogue.

This is such a mess, you have Anna, who voiced support for Clinton from the rooftops, being summoned to that gaudy Trump tower and actually following through with her tail between the legs. Then you have those wretched Trumps and their insatiable hunger for magazine covers. Don't any of these people have an ounce of pride?? The Chinese have this famous cultural concept called 'Mian Zi' which essentially means maintaining your individual honour and prestige even in troubled times, something Anna could do well to familiarise herself with. I mentioned this to some friends over lunch and they believe she may be cornered. It would be interesting to see how she'll backpedal her way out of this to her readers and critics. And which designer would book the cover. My guess is it will probably be an American old guard, with a heavy Republican clientele. Or even Chanel, actually!

A Melania cover will undo all Vogue's relentless courting of the youth. This won't wash well with the under 35 group at all!

An "inflated opinion"? Not from my side. I see them both clearly for what they are, powerful ENOUGH for Trump, and his family to want to organize a meeting, and have Anna Wintour on his side. This was no Romney humiliating scenario, based on reports, he requested a meeting with Wintour, it wasn't the other way around. So maybe you are underselling the importance, and pull Vogue and Anna have.

I will say this, Political devotion aside, they are indeed the most powerful family in the world right now, and it would be seen as a huge get for Vogue to have access to them.

The fact that most of Vogue readers have no interest in them will be ignored because Wintour would get the magazine a global PR. It's like with the Kimye cover, no actual readers cared about it, but so what? They got tons of hype, and coverage over it. Integrity is something Wintour sells in her image, but i never bought into it. She is as bad as Trump, who has been her friend for years actually!

Of course Anna/Vogue are important enough. I don't think I ever said otherwise. But look at the discussion that was had a few weeks ago when most here were convinced Anna would say no to Trump. But now that he's requested for her, she's more than happy to come meet him. He's also requested to meet and met with a ton of people the last few weeks, doesn't suggest he needs them more. And based on "reports" she is trying to get Melania for the cover.

That's what the article says:

"Of course, there is always the future First Lady, Melania. Wintour already put her on the cover of Vogue once before — and no doubt is working feverishly to do so again."

Has Melania ever been on the cover?

^^
Melania was on the cover in 2005 i believe, wearing a Dior Couture by Galliano dress choose by her with the help of ATL & AW.
At the time, they were just rich democrats socialites.

This is exactly why you should never mix politics with fashion. It's one thing for a designer to say that he will not dress Melania (those who have said that owns their brands or are very much involved in their brands like Marc Jacobs). It's another thing, as a publication, to choose a candidate and being involved in the campaign that much...

I'm all for people wanting or wishing for Trump to do the best but IMO Anna really lose her credibility. The worst thing is that she puts her publication in such a position.

She has been so vocal for Hillary and against Trump: the fundraisers, the statements... It's ridiculous.

This is opportunism pushed at another level. And i'm sure it will have some effects later...For Kanye, Anna and maybe the MET.

Designers owes a lot to Anna but the same cannot be said for Celebrities. We saw people talking trash about the MET BALL....

MyNameIs, i defo think Vogue needs the Trumps MORE than the other way around. Even if it doesn't appeal to their readers, like i said before, from power perspective they would want to have access to the President and his wife. In fact it would be strange if they didn't cover the First Lady or President, because they have for decades. Even Bush (&family), not Wintour's favorite, got featured. But maybe you are right, and he actually humiliated her, and asked her over just to tell her to her face that there will be no access granted to them haha!

Has Melania ever been on the cover?
Yup, in February 2005 wearing that Dior HC dress i mentioned. So if she got the cover for getting married, she certainly is getting one for being the FLOTUS!
