Not really the right thing to have on newsstands, you parading yourself on the cover of a magazine whilst your family is in mourning.

Not a royalist and dont care about Megan, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are trying to nip that in the bud asap.

Here's the exact quote from WWD regarding British Vogue's October 2022 cover:

I take from the full quote that it's more that who's on the cover will come as a 'shock' rather than the cover itself being remotely shocking. So I'm just going to assume he's building up someone we haven't seen in a while - like Rhianna perhaps - or just someone new. Ultimately not all that shocking but they seem to think it is?

With Meghan having been on the US cover very recently, I doubt it's her personally.

Maybe it's a male, maybe it is him. He's been promoting his covers elsewhere though, and I'd assume he would have tried to make his own cover/interview an exclusive if it was the case.

Newsstand lists the print copy as coming out on 20th September.

It's also down as only costing £5.30 as an advance purchase (cover price plus UK P&P) in comparison to Linda's current Sep cover, which costs £8.20 in total to order. So maybe this is supposed to be another of those £2 issues.

I actually listened to his interview on Oprah's podcast the other day. The usual press junket storyline - culture shock moving to the UK, workaholic years in fashion, his bad back, and not ruling out the possibility of succeeding Anna at American Vogue. And of course flattering Oprah by saying that jewellery advertising skyrocketed in the magazine after her cover.

What more could he have to add that would justify a cover? And then there's the optics of it. An editor appearing on the cover of the magazine they edit not only screams peak narcissism but also tastelessness.
He'll be mocked till the sun comes down by the tabloid press.

The world is also not waiting in bated breath to see what Rihanna's baby will look like.

What if it's a coming out cover? I didn't say Taylor!

I think it could go one of a few ways, depending on how serious of a statement ‘shock the world’ is.

It’s either…

A celebrity with an exclusive story. I’m thinking Rihanna surprise-releasing an album, or some other celeb with a big announcement - for example, if it is Taylor and she happens to be pregnant right as she’s about to release an album then that would be a pretty huge scoop. The timing doesn’t add up for that to be the case, but just an example of the kind of thing that would genuinely be headline news. It could also be a huge comeback, a divorce, a surprise marriage. As Benn98 says above, a coming out cover for a celebrity would be pretty shocking depending on who it is.

Or it could be a well-known celeb debuting a new look, similar to Taylor’s US Vogue cover by M&M a few years back. So something surprising but not really “shocking”.

On a similar note to above, it’s more the image itself that gets people talking. Perhaps a surprising pairing of cover stars or a daring shot of a celebrity making their debut on the cover. I’ve been hoping for a Michaela Coel appearance and I imagine they could do something really dramatic and fabulous with her.

Or it could be a surprising model/photographer pairing, as posted above - Kate by Meisel. So something that would be shocking for fashion people, but not really to the wider public.

I guess we’ll wait and see! But unless the October cover was in fact another Royal, which I doubt, then I think the most they’ll do is delay the reveal to next week rather than scrap it. I can see them doing a proper tribute to the Queen for the December issue, which would be a fitting way to round out the year and the appropriate issue to do something special.

It would be interesting to find out the definition of "shock the world". A lot of what's being talked about is stuff I would skip straight over, let alone be shocked by. Taylor Swift is pregnant, OK, remind me to cut my toenails, Taylor Swift is pregnant by Harry Styles, OK, it's great the kids are back at school. Harry Styles comes out and says his true inspiration in life is Cliff Richard, OK, should I buy more oil/gas credit this week or wait until next week?

What IS this cover that's going to shock me? Now I really want to know.

There's been so much speculation over the years about Taylor being bi and some Swifties Detectives have speculated Joe might be bi too because of pictures from his past and stuff... A lot of bi boys date bi girls, so I think a cover like this would open conversations about what a couple, a 21st century couple, a queer couple, a celebrity couple, looks like...

If this turned out to be true, my eyes would probably become permanently stuck backwards in their sockets from excessive eye rolling. Two people in a heteronormative relationship claiming to be queer is about the last thing the world needs right now. Though the only positive outcome of the situation would be Taylor Swift looking glamorous and stunning before Meisel's lens!

Wherever did the Meghan and Harry rumor even come from? She's just been on the cover of The Cut with an interview, what more is there to say? Meghan Markle on the cover of British Vogue prior to Queen's death (when the announcement was made) wouldn't be shocking at all. At this time it would be too offensive to a massive chunk of his readership, which is something he's never been in his five years at Vogue. Highly unlikely.

Rihanna would shock absolutely no one. She wouldn't even be a mild surprise, baby or no baby. Frankly, I don't wish to see her or read about the great joys of motherhood. If it isn't an album, I don't want it.

Daria Werbowy would be a total gag, but would shock absolutely no one outside the inner circles of fashion.

Britney made it pretty clear she didn't care about money and that she didn't want to tell her story in press and would rather do it on her own terms - which she did in that deleted audio clip, where she name-dropped Oprah several times. I doubt she'd reveal her truths to Vogue rather than Oprah, but again, would love to see her photographed by Meisel.

I genuinely can't even imagine what this cover could possibly be, which sparks curiosity and excitement in me. I wonder when we're going to see the grand reveal. I love this guessing game and I love the anticipation, like prior to the release of Linda's September issue. They're doing a great job.
