The 2010 Booking Wars Begin!

From Gwyneth to Mila--and yes, even Palin--who to expect on glossy covers
Tuesday, January 05, 2010
(NEW YORK) The year is merely 5 days old, but the entertainment editors at monthly magazines still have 10 cover subjects to reveal. Newsstand movement, of course, will be critical, and editors-in-chief will rely increasingly on best-selling starlets to pick up where ising revenue has faltered. In a time where Taylor will trump Theron, The Daily has separated the contenders from the pretenders, based on an intricate matrix of upcoming projects, pop culture relevance, and of course, the ability to make glossies fly off the racks. Behold our list of the top legit lovelies to be spotted soon on a cover near you.
VALENTINE UHOVSKI

1) FREIDA PINTO
When
: July, September, October
Why: Not only did her breakout film win the top Oscar, Pinto has gone on to land starring roles in Julian Schnabel's Miral and Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. This will be her A-list transition year, and she has yet to appear on a cover. Don't forget her cuddly romance with Dev Patel, which will sure to enthrall tweens and teens.
Perfect for: Teen Vogue, Harper's Bazaar

2) GWYNETH PALTROW AND NICOLE KIDMAN
When: September
Why: The dueling blondes are starring as sisters in Danish Girl, and finally earning some second-round Oscar buzz--years after their original victories.
Perfect for: Vogue, of course. No doubt Jill Demling is already on it.

3) SCARLETT JOHANSSON
When:
May
Why: Although the stunner has taken a respite from Hollywood in favor of a Dolce campaign, a Mango collab, and of course, that album of duets with Pete Yorn, ScarJo's plum role in Iron Man 2 will be her only cover opportunity for the next two years. Call CeCe Yorke immediately!
Perfect for: Marie Claire (get Ryan Reynolds too, while you're at it)

4) SARAH JESSICA PARKER
When: May
Why: Because millions of American readers just can't wait to get (groan) "Carried Away." Any mag with SJP on the cover will earn a massive audience--which niche titles need.
Perfect for: Nylon

5) KRISTEN STEWART
When:
June
Why: The new Twlight film, Eclipse, will push covers as much as the teen vamp herself. The saga-with-Pattinson story line has been played out--merci, Glenda--but depending on how Stewart's love life unfolds in the next few months, this one could be a mega-hit. How well did she do for Allure and Interview?Time, and ABC numbers, will tell.
Perfect for: Nylon, GQ

6) TAYLOR SWIFT
When: TDB,but August and September should be safe
Why: Her 2010 album doesn't have a release date, but regardless, it has virtually no competition for the best-selling female album of the year title. Of course, Glenda just might go for her competitor, Susan Boyle, instead, but...
Perfect for: Interview

7) KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
When: April through November
Why: The Brit has 5 films slated for release, but her starring role in My Fair Lady starring role in the fall will ensure that she dominates October and November.
Perfect for: Vogue

8) MEGAN FOX
When: June, December
Why: Fox has two big movies out this year, including the summer popcorn flick Passion Play. And you know how Mr. Armani adores...and how you adore Mr. Armani...
Perfect for: W

9) SARAH PALIN
When:
Whenever!
Why: It will take a mag with vision to dare it, but few can doubt Palin's ability to move merch on the newsstand. Her five million book-buyers are itching for more.
Perfect for: Glamour

10) MILA KUNIS
When:
April, December
Why: Her Maxim days are behind her. Kunis is quickly emerging as a force, thanks to her integral role in Date Night (don't laugh--she stars alongside Tina Fey, James Franco, and Steve Carell). Not to mention she's a potential Oscar nominee thanks to her performance opposite Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan.
Perfect for: Elle
i would love to see megan fox on w...
i'm sure gwyneth's vogue cover is already in the works...

Sarah Jessica Parker for Nylon?? I see a SJP cover for Vogue may, besides the custome institute gala of this year its dedicated to the american woman. It could be nice see a sex and the city cover, with all the stars.

I don't have any problem with Freida but I would be shock to see her get a major US magazine cover solo. With the economic situation not improving fast enough, these mags are relying more so on 'names' to sell copies (hence J.Lo multiple covers for basically promoting nothing...) She is not well known enough here yet...

Would love to see Mila Kunis on either Elle or Marie Claire... and of course excited for SATC2 mania to start...

oprah is one of the co-chairs of the met gala...with her talk show ending soon, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that she could be on the cover of vogue in may...

marie claire shot all four SATC women for separate covers...i hope someone does a group cover...

I thought it was very likely Keira would turn up on US Vogue again. I think we'll be seeing her on the UK editions too, she's yet to have a cover of Harper's as well I think? UK or US.

Megan Fox on covers makes me want to self-harm. I just don't get her appeal personally. Aside from her Wonderland cover, I just think she looks...cheap?

Italia's italia should be here any day now..i think as early as tomorrow, no?

Excited for ITALIA! As for The cover line ups, as random as it may seem, I'm excited to see Keira & Gwyneth back on the covers... I love Nicole too, but she was given a chance last 09, she spoiled it.

Freida for HB, wonder how that will look.

So can't wait for Vogue Italia. I'm so psyched about their cover and its covergirl. :)

Typically between the 1st and the 5th. January is always the latest. And e.g. August usually hits stands end of July before all of Italy go on vacation.

Oh I would love to see these two together on the cover (any mag will do really Vogue, W, Bazaar etc). But seriously the writer needs to do some research. They are playing husband and wife not sisters. They haven't even started filming yet so how can it have Oscar buzz and it's scheduled to be released in 2011 not 2010.

^ Yeah their whole list i found rather daft. What i am most interested in finding out is who will be Vogues cover girl for March Power Issue. Bullock with massive success of her last movie, and Oscar Buzz would make sense, she always sells for them. But then i would love to see someone new, fresh, and stylish like Zoe Saldana, that would be so wonderful.

Or it could very well be one of the girls; SJP, Paltrow, Jolie, Keira..........

And Kimair's suggestion that Oprah could be up for the May cover since she will co-host the Met Ball this year is brilliant, after so long since she first appeared on it, it would be much talked about with tons of publicity.

^^ Angelina has been only in 1 major fashion magazine previous year (and it was red carpet shot). And she hasn't been in W for a while (they love her) so I doubt we'll see her in some covers and one more reason, she has movie coming out in July.

Alessandra Ambrosio will be on the cover of Elle France with a 20 pg editorial. So far she's shot for Elle Brasil, Love Magazine, Elle France. I think this will turn out to be an interesting year for her, maybe she is returning to HF as well.
