Cover Rumor Thread

I wish Caroline Ribeiro was black ,I miss her.

Meisel is shooting ALL of the edits in the issue?Damn, but I guess he has paid his dues, he has been working for over 20 years.

Iman
Beverly Johnson
Beverly Peele
Jourdan Dunn
Alek Wek
Kinee
Mimi Roche
Sessilee

My perfect issue roundup.

By the way ,do you think there will be a push for other groups to get more noticed in the fashion world after this?(Asians, etc.)?

I've been thinking about this more. Does anybody else feel that this could be seen as a bad thing, just to round up ALL the black models for this one issue? It's almost like, lets marginalize them, so we won't have to worry about putting them in our magazine again. I hope it won't turn out like that, but it's something that worries me.

:buzz:

this could be the best.issue.ever... (or at least of this year)
i have a feeling the eds are going to be amazing...

mynameis...i can totally see your point, but i'm hoping that this issue has the opposite effect...
it will show how fabulous and beautiful black models are, and other editions of vogue will use them more and more (not just naomi and liya)...
and we all know what being touched by the hand of meisel can do to a model's career...

I will be shilling out the big bucks to get a copy of that VI...of course Naomi, Liya, Chanel, Jourdan are going to be there but I will go batty if Ajuma is in there and probably buy another copy for room art. Alek is another expectation and Sessilee would be a very pleasant surprise. Noemie would be so nice too.

And if there is the push for more groups in VI...then there is only one thing I hope for and that is an issue with Han, Daul, Du Juan, Hye, Ai, et. al...with Eugenia on the cover. (see avatar for more information)

Seriously if Chanel gets the cover I'm going to kill someone. NO THANKS.

^Maybe we should see cover at first? They could suprise us and I guess we could give a change after all :flower:

Besides, they'll see how beautiful we are

My initial reaction to the news of an all black Vogue Italia is wonderful, yet another lunkhead attempt at equating ghettoization with diversity--underlined by the fact that diversity in this case means only black and white, and ignores other under-represented non-European ethnicities like Asians--that ultimately exoticise and hence isolate the very group that is to be included. But well, one step at a time, and I hope there will be many more steps after this to redress the imbalance of representation in the fashion world, and well, everywhere else too, but we're dealing with fashion here. And perhaps by using only black models, Vogue Italia hopes to achieve maximum impact. Also, I think the narrative of racism against black models is different than the the ones against other non-European ethnicities.

Every cause needs champions and supporters, and when an influential magazine like Vogue Italia joins force with an influential photograph to make a statement, people sit up and take notice. This is a big step towards the fashion world being a level playing field where a black model can also be over-hyped and ubiquitous to the point where a trendy magazine would devote almost an entire issue to her.

I also don't want Chanel Iman, that perfect storm of a silly loaded name, tokenism and passable looks, on the cover

Let us all hope that such an issue is just around the corner^_^

Sounds good...but I really hope it won't be a ghetto issue where they cram 10+ years worth of neglected black models into one issue and then forget about them until 2020. This should be a statement that they have been stupid for not using some of the worlds most beautiful models because they have dark skin! And later I hope to see Jourdan and Kinee featured on a regular basis -_-

Jourdan is one of the best runway models right now, but Kinee's editorial power is far stronger and I find her face more interesting. I will send a love letter to Meisel if she gets the cover. But I think Jourdan is more likely to get the cover because she walked for Prada, and is sadly more famous than Kinee who hardly booked any runways this season. Her skin is also darker than Jourdan's so that will work against her.

We have no info that Chanel Iman is even in this issue, and please remember tFS rules on continual negativity.

edit: Here is the link to Kinee's thread the view count is relatively low, so I figure many members have never had a good look at her awesome work.

This sounds like my type of issue! Personally, I wish thaat all races were just used in eds on a monthly basis but I guess this is the next best thing.

Oh man i am so excited about this, i hope its true, sounds like something Meisel would do.And i hope there isnt only one girl cover.

Ïf Meisel is shooting all the eds, then I think its for the july issue.

because that issue always has one ed, like last year with the rehab ed, and the make over madness ed with Linda.

I'm happy that we'll see more diversity in fashion magazines, so an all-black issue is a great concept (though you know there's a problem in society when they HAVE to do an all-black issue to use black models) but just because they'll use black models doesn't mean the eds and the issue will be amazing... I understand people are excited over the concept (as I am) but to say that it's gonna be the best issue of the year without even seeing previews is a bit far-fetched IMO...

Dead @ all the haters already knowing Chanel is included:lol::lol::lol:

:angel::lol:

The last time Meisel shot a black model for Vogue Italia was in Feb 05. Liya was included in that paparazzi inspired ed along with Trentini & many others. The last black model they had on the cover was in 2002 (with Liya again). It sounds exciting but it will be a one of thing, for sure...i'm guessing that they won't be using any black models for the next 5 or so years ...

A Chanel/Jourdan/Liya cover and i'll probably just die

mimi roche was on the cover last year or the year before.. it could have been the supplement though.

^those were supplements which still count as covers imo and especially as ed by Meisel since he shot them I believe

Yes he did shoot that supplement cover and ed :)

We're discussing black models in Meisel stories and covers for VI, but what about the Asians? None in the past decade at least :ninja:
