Cover Rumor Thread

I love Jennifer, but she fact she is so actively promoting D&G is making me so uncomfortable.. I know it's a broader discussion and she is certainly not the only one, but still. I wish people would do better and not put money before anything else.

As a fan I agree with you, Jennifer since the beginning of her career has always chase one thing: money. And that's her art!

Even though D&G talks so much sh#t, on the one hand I understand her supporting them, because from the beginning they supported her.

I'm neither a fan nor a customer of them, but I think it's a little odd how people are surprised that celebrities still wear/support them. Money talks and as long as they're successful enough to keep writing checks, celebrities will keep showing up. The general populous really doesn't have an awareness or care much about this controversy anyway, in my opinion. There's a general perception that major luxury brands actively steal from marginalized creatives, engage in unethical practices when it comes to production, and enable powerful people who abuse models and sexualize children. Yes, D&G have said some awful things but with very few exceptions, people are not looking to fashion designers to be arbiters of morality. I just don't think most people are that bothered by what they've said, especially since some of what people are trying to cancel them for is homophobia, and they're openly gay themselves. People have an easier time "forgiving" people when the offense seems almost self-directed. Kanye has said and done some outrageous, awful things, and specifically he's said some things that a non-Black singer would have been INSTANTLY cancelled over, but because he's Black, most people just kind of moved past it and he's still widely celebrated and successful. I'm not defending them, I'm just saying consumers at large care much less about some stupid comments from a couple of aging Italian queens than the twitter crowd does.

That’s not true at all. It has nothing to do with him being Black. People are able to separate the art from the artist. Unless theirs a huge news story about them, most people are not aware of D&G or Kanye’s antics. A lot of people in fashion also don’t really care about who’s problematic or not. John Galliano is still widely celebrated after his antisemitic rant. Alexander Wang is slowly making a comeback. Mario Testino is still getting hired. They are all hypocrites. Karlie Kloss talks a lot about women’s rights but is seen publicly at events with Ivanka and Jared.

Money talks. The celebs that attended the D&G show had flights and hotels booked for them. They got to wear expensive couture throughout their trip and tour around Italy. Who would say no to that?

am I the only person who’s not THAT excited to see her landing a Vogue cover? feels like we’ve just saw her everywhere last year plus what is she even promoting? that Coach campaign can’t be behind a Vogue cover can it?

It *was* a huge story. I think most people who listen to Kanye West are aware of his "Slavery was a choice" bit, which you cannot possibly tell me an A-list singer who isn't Black would've come out of the other side of making that statement relatively unscathed. It's a very common thing that people view someone criticizing their own community more favorably (rightfully so in some cases, imo) than those outside of it saying the same things. Regarding D&G, the scandal of theirs that got the most press coverage was them not supporting gay adoption, etc. and it's easy for people to write that off because they themselves are gay. This happens literally all the time. I distinctly remember my homophobic brother, who does not follow fashion in any way, used their opinion as evidence that it's not homophobic to be against gays adopting children, like "see? these flaming gays are against it too, so it can't be bad!".... just goes to show how widely spread the newsstory was and how people have a harder time seeing homophobia, racism, sexism, etc. for what it is when it comes from the mouth of someone who could be a victim of it. If D&G were both straight, they would've had a harder time overcoming that particular scandal.

The D&G scandal got press coverage sure, but how many people actually cared to read about it? D&G also proudly dressed Melania Trump and supported her when most designers stayed quiet. Yet Jill Biden still wears a lot of D&G. I doubt she knows or cares who designed her dress.

My point is most people don’t care about the person who designed their dress or the person who wrote the song they’re listening to. They just enjoy the product.

Also a reason why many Kanye fans may appear to have “forgiven” him is because he’s a Christian rapper now. His music is not the same anymore. He makes music for Christians which most Black Americans are.

JLO is so boring. Her whole thing is that she’s 50 and fabulous. I could care less about who she’s dating or what’s the secret ingredient in her skincare routine.

I imagine the progressive NYT reader comes across these edgy supplement covers and cannot help but clap in support. Perhaps out of fear of being called a square if they don't like it.

I'm quite prepared for the wheel of fashion to turn now. Glamour must return. Not in terms of styling (because the styling here is actually glamorous) but in terms of aesthetics.

As an online subscriber and sometimes hard-copy purchaser, I can say I don't like it and I don't really know anyone who does subscribe and likes this. There's absolutely nothing about glamour that can't be fulfilled with diverse casting. It kind of rubs me the wrong way when "elite" publications try and superficially push/celebrate this kind of uncouth styling and aesthetic. So patronizing.

Ahh excited to see Adele!

Can we have JLO ateast for US Vogue please. I need established names that cater to us.

with each passing month, the reality sets in: I’m no longer Vogue’s target reader.
