Culottes

i don't think i have the right bodytype to pull this off.

i'm not very fond of them. but we never now...

i change my taste all time.

and i think in some people it might look really good,

specially with the boots.;)

To be honest, culottes/gaucho pants can be quite attractive. Obviously, I'm not a lady, but I tend to like the culottes that have very wide legs. Then, usually paired with tall boots, they are can't miss. I'm not really fond of pairing boots with not really wide-legged gaucho pants. I usually consider flares sexy, especially wide flares. Like look at some of the wide-legged crops here:

Part of fashion's beauty and charm is illusion. And in the sense of these gaucho pants/culottes, the illusion of a skirt that drapes past the knees often makes for a sweet look. And I guess by looking at some celebrity fashion, I've been hooked to the combination of these specific gauchos that extend past the knee, at mid-calf, or just above the ankles. Those are my favorite looks, and I kind of like the look only with long gaucho pants or just past the knees, and wide-legged.

I agree, culottes are very sexy and feminine if worn with heels

don't be fooled by that ebay sellers ignorance...
very wide leg pants that aren't cropped are neither culottes nor gauchos...
they are referred to as palazzo pants...

;) ...

Yeah, but as I said, part of the beauty of fashion (especially among ladies) is illusion. For what I've seen, these gauchos have been made popular in recent times by Texas' own Jessica Simpson-Lachey, or whatever she wants to be refered to as. I think the culottes I'm describing go best with tall boots, granted you have boots tall enough. The combination of boots with those capri pants that look crinkled-up on the sides doesn't look too attractive to me, but surely the flares work best. Flats are okay, but I've been used to the cropped gauchos and tall boots.

The illusion and allure of this fashion trend works quite well. I just can't wait until weather gets cold(er) around here so I can see Fall/Winter fashion around my way. I'll break out the layers, and maybe those with the wide-legged gauchos and tall boots will warm things up if it's cold. Other names I remember reading/hearing with gauchos include Lucy Liu and Jessica Alba.

The boot is becoming so ubiquitous as a trend I think the cropped-pant styles like the culotte and the gaucho will linger for a few seasons to come... Boots are such an investment they can have this effect on your wardrobe... at least, I'm cropping a lot of my pants now. It works well for all of those favourite bell bottom jeans I spent so much love wearing in but now don't want to wear because I'm sick of bell bottoms...

i just found the nicest pair... below the knee, pleated front, high-waist, with self belt. in dark green wool. la la la!

vintage wrangler culottes sound awesome...:woot:...

hehe! i didn't see that 'til now. they are really great. i have hardly worn them because they are such a "piece". you know when something is really nice but sort of sticks out, it may be be beautiful but it is somehow too obvious. they are like that. but i need to get over that and wear my gorgeous stuff again....!

seriously...
those culottes need to go OUT!!!...
this is their 'moment'...

:woot:...

*the new ones sound very cool...:flower:...

There's sort of a fashion Don't for culottes. One time at my community college, one lady had some nice gauchos, but paired them with brown winter boots. Completely killed the look below the waist. I say if you have culottes/gaucho pants which extend to about mid-calf and you have tall boots (preferably to below the knees), you have a killer look going. I generally think if you're going to show off your beauty with these cropped pants, I think you can't go wrong with culottes with plenty of flare in the legs. It's best to look for a sexy pair of high-heeled, tall boots. If you want to be a little more aggressive, perhaps go with high-heeled, platformed, chunky boots. Don't like boots? Some nice wedge pumps or wedge Mary Janes would also work. Perhaps you like flip-flops/thongs (the sandal thongs). I'd go for a wedge look with those for style.

Culottes are described as being "a happy medium between shorts and pants." It seems like having year-round fashions. Ever since capris gotten back into popularity, some people been wanting capris to be a year-round fashion. I do consider culottes/gaucho pants as crops or capris since they don't go past the ankles. These 1/2 skirt, 1/2 pant gauchos are quite appealing with the flare in the legs and when paired with the right shoes, a way to melt the snow of a frigid winter. Done right, it is a look I admire on ladies. Some gauchos have sort of a wrap belt which doesn't look bad either.

I have just acquired some black Marc by Marc Jacobs culottes, which fall just below mid-calf on me. (In case anyone doesn't know by now, a short round person:lol: ). When I first put them on I thought:sick: ,how fast can DHL take them back to NAP?

But then I made a bit of an outfit, and I don't think they're that bad...

I just question their longevity? I don't want to buy something that is trendy one minute and out the next.

Any ideas on this? They're back nestling in their black tissue paper and box awaiting verdict:lol: .

hi QuirkyCool

i think they will be appreciated for another season for sure. and then it will be every few years if you love them you will wear them. i think they are classic. and yours are a very classic cut.

in the end i always go by fit. if i feel great in it and the item fits really well. then i keep it and i know i will probably have a phase of wearing it a lot. and then it will stay with me through the years.

ok.. i am so wordy!:flower:

quirky...i think they are adorable...
you have never struck me as a person who follows trends anyway

i know i was wearing culottes when nobody else was..
the real question for me would be how much do you like them?...

:flower:..

hey all, I love culottes. In fact, I am wearing a black velvet pair today.
quirky, I have 2 pairs of culottes very similar to those. I am short and wear them all the time. Sometimes the mid-calf look makes me look even shorter, so I am thinking of hemming some pairs up to my knee.

I don't know, I used to wear culottes when I was a kid in the 70s, and I never got over them. When I was a teenager I spent a few years in a private school which had a dress code of skirts only--and they had to be to the knee--so I got real clever and and sewed my own culottes all the time and then disguised their "pant-ness" by styling them with long blazers. I don't know if I was fooling the dress-code-police... then I got into this Annie Hall phase in the 90s where I wore vests and ties and gauchos and boots... now they happen to be trendy but I've already made them my own so I know I'll still be in them tomorrow.

I don't like these at all... :ninja: they feel too 'country side' for me.

But each to their own. :flower:

I like them on some people, but I just can't wear them myself. it's not that they necessarily look bad on me, but they just don't suit my style at all.

Thanks for the opinions ladies:). I have decided to keep them. The way in which I will wear them is not countryside at all...and the fact that they are black and straight in a wide way, rather than flared, makes them a little bit easier,I think.
And they may end up being a regrettable mistake, but right now I think I'll accept the challenge....live a little dangerously

greenvelvet...
everything you described sounds really great!...

quirky...good for you...
hope you post a pic of how you wear them......

I don't mind structured culottes. But, I really can't stand the flimsy cotton/spandex ones. They're HORRIBLE. Especially when everyone is wearing them and not everyone can pull them off, especially the unstructred ones. I really like the structured ones, but I haven't found a pair that I actually like or would wear. It's not really my style so I don't really think I'll ever find a pair I'll like.
