Help from the masters, please :flower:

I bought this Mexican wedding dress months ago at a second hand shop (BEFORE Mary Kate wore something similar :lol:). I haven't worn it yet because it seems so dramatic and swallows me whole. It also came with a sash that I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with . Anyhow, I was thinking of modifying it. My instinct is to take a tier off the bottom (leaving the lace at the bottom of the last tier), take the flutter off the sleeve (again leaving lace) and tie it off with a brightly colored satin sash. What do you think? Would I be doing an injustice to the dress by altering it? And is it bad karma to alter a WEDDING dress :ninja:? Anyhow, here' some various pics and thoughts to give ideas:

- Leave as is?
- shorten only (wouldn't be quite as poofy as the picture since it's just pinned... unless I wore a petticoat that is :p)?
- shorten dress and sleeves?
- sash or no?

Thanks for any help!!

Hello curious ;) Im no master, but here my 2 cents

Very nice dress..I love white and lace!
First of all i dont know if its bad karma altering a wedding dress..

You know If this dress was mine, I wold make it fitter in the bust up to a little above the hips and I would shorten it... I guess I 'd try to make resamble that Michael Kors dress... Maybe even used the extra fabric from the bottom of the dress to altering the sleeves...

You know... just an idea :flower:

Great tees tiamaria!!!! :woot: Congrats..... Now I want to do that to : make prints on my tees.......

Thanks FashionYork! That's actually the dress I had in mind when I originally bought the wedding gown

Definitely an option. I've left it as is for now and will try it with various colored sashes. I'm just not finding myself with an occasion to wear it. I think part of that is it's not a silhouette I'm used to wearing so I have to build up the confidence to pull it off. You kow how that goes!! I appreciate the input :flower:

i could need some advice..

maybe someone has an idea what to do with one of my old skirts that don't fit anymore, they are too small for me now..

ok, this skirt is made of black corduroy but as it is slightly worn off it would look a bit weird just to attach new black corduroy somewhere, don't you think? it has pieces of other cloth with embroidery on it. (can't describe it properly.) as i don't have a camera i tried to paint a picture of it. i hope it works.. :ermm:

hmm, what do you think? is there something that can be done with it? thanks in advance. :flower:

so here is the before and after of a vest i bought at a vintage store...

changed the buttons and added a 'pouf' of lace and eyelet trim...

-got the buttons from an old man's sweater i bought in college at the salvation army...had to eventually chuck the swtr, but i kept the buttons...

-got the lace bits from my grandmother's scrap bag...gathered all the bits and tied them together...then pinned them on the vest...

tada!!...^_^

Oooh la la Soft!! It's beautiful :flower:

I also see your other vest peeking out from behind it. What did you wind up doing to that one?

softgrey, i really like it! i love the lace and eyelet.

anna, this is eyelet: i think it's really pretty!

does spray paint really work on stenciling on to tees?

i wouldn't do it if you want something to last...i think spray paint will run. there is fabric spray paint you can get that i and my roommate have used and it seems to work ok...but i think it might have run in the wash, BUT i don't think we set it (i think it's iron set?).

here is a handy website!

i used spray paint to stencil onto my tees and survived the wash at 40 degrees, and the tumble dryer although i didnt mean to do it:blush:

but it was spray paint used for touching up your car so it might have more staying power than regular spray paint.

just dont spray it too think or it will crack!
