1 hour (yes, a full hour ) Tennis on my Wii

I'm dead now.

Felt so good yesterday, getting back into my routine at the gym - have been so on and off over Christmas. Today I have a one hour pilates class and then I plan to do 45 mins of cardio after.

hi guys, i'm not sure if i'm posting at the right place, but i'm just wondering if you guys have any exercise that would help toning thighs?
as much as I love doing sports, i would still like to have 'smaller' thighs, especially in swimming, cos i could be the first in every drill during my trainings, but when it comes to kicking, quite frankly i suck. and i think it's because of the size of my thighs.

Friday: 1 hour elliptical, lower body workout with no weights.
Saturday: 1 hour elliptical, 10 min jumping rope, crunches (didn't count)
Today: 1 hour treadmill, ran on it for 30 min, other 30 min fast walk; light weight for biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest, back

^TeeKay, you say "tone" thighs - do you mean making them bigger - like bulking up?

Sunday, 11Jan: Lifted weights - chest, triceps, back and then did abs. Aching all over now like crazy! Love the ache! :)

i actually meant the opposite.
i would like them to be in better shape as well as being a bit smaller than they are now.

^Hehe, no worries. Erm. What's your stats like (height/weight) and what size jeans do you wear?

You cant lose weight in just one area, spot reduction it's called, but to tone your thighs you should do leg curls and extensions, squats, lunges, abductor and also work your calves. If you dont want them bigger, use light weight and lots of repetitions.

I like having muscular legs so I do a lot of weight, as many reps as I can manage. B)

i'm medium built i think.
and my jeans size varies from 32 to 34, depending on the kind of jeans they are:flower:
hope that helps :D

i've just done some research on spot reduction, and since it's just a general misconception, it means that i need to do whole body exercise in order to burn fat, right?

so my question is, is there anyway that will speed up the process for my thighs? cos if i do whole body exercise, which i like to do, that will just means my whole body will be toned or 'go down a size', but then my thighs will still be huge relatively to the others parts of the body? if that make any sense at all.:p

^I agree - spot reduction doesn't work. A whole body toning would be much better. Funny 'cos you, LTEC and I are around the same height/weight!! Like LTEC, I like muscular legs too - hence the heavy weights. Squats are one of the best exercises around, but yet so overlooked. It works a lot of muscles - including your core muscles! The stuff that LTEC recommended is good for shaping too!!

Your legs won't be excessively huge if you lose weight in general. But that's not to say that targeting a certain muscle group won't tone up that area. There are a few friends I know who focus all on their upper body (chest, shoulders and arms - visible muscle groups), and neglect their legs - and they end up looking a bit odd because of the skinny legs!!

Yes, a whole body exercise works better to burn fat - circuit training is great. Do supersets (one exercise targeting another muscle group one after the other) - they get your heart pumping. To be honest, lifting weights makes you tone up because of its after-burn as well. Muscles require more energy, which means that you will burn more calories - even if you're not exercising. When you work a large muscle group (chest, back and legs), your metabolism gets boosted up and creates a longer calorie after-burn that lasts up to 48 hours.

I call these pizza slice bodies...large and wide at the top and narrower and narrower the further down it gets. I would hate to have skinny chicken girl legs...but I see sooo many guys at my gym that are all grunting from lifting in the weight room, and then I mutter to myself, "NO calf muscles.":innocent::rolleyes:

You've got terrific advice too, [vogue]. ;)

Thank you for your kind words, LTEC!

I mutter the same to myself too! Hehe, and grunting and "arggghhh"-ing in the weights room is just very annoying. Chicken legs are very unsightly.

Hi everybody!

This thread is great, especially when I'm feling lazy, after reading a few pages I feel guilty and go get some exercise!

My question is, can you really see the results of your training?

You see, I am exercising quite a lot - cycling every day, going to the gym (well not really regularly but I do my best) and eating healthy food - but I don't really see any results, except on my thighs - they get muscly quite easily.

What do you think?

This thread is just what I need to get motivated into doing my workouts.
I am planning on doing cardio, ie the treadmill (starting tomorrow!). Best way to lose weight quicky is to run! as long as your eating a calorie controlled diet that is.
