Thanks for that tip bonchic...I always have trouble breathing when I do any kind of cardio as well.

Question that I thought I'd put in here, so people who are more experienced in working out can answer for me:
If you work out in the morning is it more beneficial to eat breakfast before or after you work out?

I've heard that you will burn more if you don't eat before (like if you haven't eaten since the night before), but then if I went home and had breakfast wouldn't that completely reverse all the exercise I just put in??

I would suggest eating breakfast afterwards....personally..I would throw up if I ate then worked out:sick:
It won't completely reverse your workout eating afterwards if you choose a good breakfast. Watch out for things with a lot of sugar because it seems all yummy breakfast food is filled with sugar. I would say yogurt (i get the kind that is low in sugar) or fruit would be a good post workout breakfast. You may want to look into different sources of protein as well.

How long does it take you to run 3 miles?
I have no idea how many miles/km I run,it just takes me 20-30 minutes. My goal are 45 perhaps 60 min. Well I just started to run again so we'll see:p

on the assumption that i run an 11 minute mile, i'd guess at 33 minutes i've run 3 miles... although now that i think about it, im sure my time has improved and its more like 3miles in 30 minutes... i ran either a little over or a little under 4 miles today- 45 minutes :)

as far as eating before you exercise... you are suppose to wait 2 hours after you eat to exercise. I've read that numerous times and found that it is true;) Of course water doesn't count as food:p

You don't burn more if you don't eat before. Is just that when you are exercising you need "fuel", and that's your fat storage, but if you have eaten, you have the food(as energy source), so your body burns first the "food" and then your fat. So if you don't eat your body goes straight to your fat (and that's what you want). Same goes if you eat afterwards. You shouldn't eat anything 2 hours before or after exercising. The best thing is to eat something that will give you energy (protein bars, bananas (fruit in general are great carbohydrates (the number one energy source for your body), oatmeal, etc) so you won't pass out. Also remember to drink water before during and after exercising, (you need the electrolytes) you don't want to dehydrate yourself.

In general it's not bad to eat before or after exercise. It's not that you reverse all the exercise, no. Just don't eat right before exercising, because your body works already for the process of digestion and you are pushing it if you're exercising on the same time, so it's better to wait until you have digested the food.
Hope i helped :flower:

^^^ Any suggestions for an after-run breakfast, Bonchic?

It's better to eat before Tushka_Bella, if you read my previous post you will see why. And i have some suggestions (for snacks that is).
Basically you need carbohydrates (it's the number one source of energy for your body).
Carbohydrates come in two basic forms: complex and simple. Complex carbs are the best (fruits, black bread, oatmeal (all the healthy stuff), so stick to them.
And remember, drink BUCKETS of water (amazing for your skin too!;) ), so you don't dehydrate yourself.
Anything else you want to ask, feel free...

when i come back from gym, i usually eat a banana and then same black bread with tomato slices on it :flower: and lots of water

:flower: ^that's very smart. it's always good to have fruit right away, followed by complex carbs. a bit of protein would be a good idea too:flower:

Today I did the London 10k race...in 32 degree heat! OMG! Still, it was a good day; my time was 49:30 - i was just happy to break 50 mins, given the crowds (30,000!) and of course, the heat.

p.s. i've been away but thankfully, have been running and doing yoga the whole time! Phew!^_^

So, let me explain. Eating after is almost the same thing, because you are still burning fat after the exercise. A "rookie" will be burning fat for 2 hours afterwards, and an "experienced" for about 6 to 8 hours afterwards (shocking huh?Makes you wanna work out like a maniac! ). So that's why it's the same thing if you eat before or after. But it's better to eat before (about 2 hours before so that your food will be digested, ergo your body will go straight to your fat deposit for energy) because you give extra energy to your body. As you said you can run for 60' because you had tons of sugar during the day, so if you eat before you will have more energy.

I read once that it's better to exercise in the afternoon, but i can't remember any good explanation. I believe that it doesn't matter when.

Yes it's a very good idea to work out twice a day (morning, night). I believe that if you do cardio 30' in the morning and 30' at night you will be fine. Just remember miracles don't happen, you have to wait 2 weeks (minimum) to see results. Just do it at least 3 times a week.

The reason you digest the food quicker is because you are still burning fat, not because your metabolism increases. Metabolism speed depends on the amount of muscle you have. So if you want to speed up your metabolism you have to keep working out to increase your muscle mass. :flower:

I had a day off from dance rehearsals:woot: ...

Finally! I run today in the morning! How refreshing it is! There were less people and sun wasn't high above! I was enjoying blue sky and birds singing while running though I do not live near forest, believe me :-)

Went for a run then to pilates. Swim suit season is making these workouts more necessary and serious for sure!
