Daily Exercise

^ Oh man, that sounds like a blast. It's so much fun to run with a team, and absolutely, eating after an incredible workout is a thrill.

Today's cheesy moment: I want to go to soccer camp. It kills me that adults no longer get to muck about in sports camps, flirt with counselors, jabber in cabins and play like crazy. Yes, I realize I'm supposed to have outgrown these desires, but damn, soccer camp a la Travelling Pants? Burritos, Baja, California, and a game all day? Sign me up, that sounds amazing.

kare2711, about the elliptical --- there's no correct way to do it, but you will work slightly different muscles depending on how you run. I actually tend to run almost solely on my toes on the elliptical... Clearly all those Nike Free commercials are getting to me. <g> There have been a crop of studies recently about how good it is for you to run on your toes, but I think running flat footed/on your toes is just a trend... Mix it up, run hard and fast and you'll be doing something good for your body.

How do you guys stay motivated to work out? I work all day, then when I come home, Im pooped. I CANT get up early in the morning to it, not gonna happen, so evening is the only option....Any thoughts or helpful hints???

in ny i'd get home around 9 and still go work out. You'll get really "pooped" if the first thing you do when you get home is sit down- DONT SIT DOWN MUST KEEP GOING. Grab a piece of fruit and head right out to the gym- once your there you cant convince yourself you're too tired, you're bound to do something. Good luck.:flower: its hard.

Am I the only one who thinks that some of you ladies are overdoing it?

I personally think 1 - 1.5 hours 4 times week is the maxiumum, unless you are training for a spesific sporting event, in the lead-up weeks. There have been several studies on this kind of thing, overtraining is very common and can be quite damaging in the long term.

this board has a bunch of students on sports teams with practices 2 hours a day, 5 days a week. If you're training for a specific sports event -- if you're a professional ballerina, competitive gymnast, swimmer, whatever -- you're more likely to spend up to 6 hours a day working out. It becomes your job! I think there's a good mix of people trying to get back into the swing of things and kids on teams. ^^ :flower:

For someone who's trying to get back on shape, I think doing an average of 7 hours a week is ok. Plus, it's not like I'm doing my exercises at 80 - 90% of my MHR throughout the 7 hours. That, would be killing!

OT: can everyone share the songs/albums you listen to when you work out? I am currently listening to Tumthumper and Black Grape. They make really vulgar fast music, but I'm getting bored.

I also find that if you can discipline yourself to get up early in the morning to do it, the rest of the day is smooth sailing! But you're right, it's absolutely necessary to get up and out the door as soon as you get home from work. Or go straight to the gym from work and take your gear with you in the morning so there are no excuses!

I can't sleep, and in a few hours I get to look forward to biking to work. Ugh, 80 minutes of biking total today... exhausting! But I'm doing it!

I walk a mile on the treadmill. I also spend about 15 minutes on the elliptical trainer. That's what I plan on doing today after classes. I also walk everywhere on campus and off. Going up six flights of stairs also has its benefits just to get to my dorm room. No elevator.

sometimes during running i have to sing to myself "just 4 more miiilles.... you know you can dooooo itttt" :innocent: "no matter how hard you work, someone will work HARDER".... all kinds of stuff that i use as a mantra for running

Keep in mind i am a top cross country runner at my high school, it's not like I'm running myself to death for no reason ;)

Already this morning:
about 45 minutes running .... speed work and alot of jogging
45 min cheer practice

Later tonight:
1 hr 15 min ashtanga (power yoga) class
45 more minutes running

^ Ahh, you're a CC runner, that explains.

I remember working my hoofy off in high school, too. Comes with the sport.
