Claudia Winkleman interviews Daisy Lowe

Posted by "Handbag" on 16/12/2008

Daisy Lowe is about as cool as it gets. She is the extremely tall smoky eyed girl who is the new Kate Moss. She has been the face of Agent Provocateur and has been photographed by the worlds best photographers like Steven Meisel and has appeared in Tatler and Vogue and W and all the great magazines. She takes over from Victoria Beckham as the face of Marc Jacobs in 2009. She has, without a doubt, the longest legs I've ever seen and she loves Christmas and travelling so it's win win.

Now let's begin with Christmas coming up. How excited are you? (like a three year old toddler or do you hate the hassle).

I'm sort of an in between person, I do absolutely love Christmas and the days before I act like a three year old but I've just been working so much, trying not to forget all of the people I want to get presents for is a little bit stressful to say the least! So I love it but eeeeeek....

How early do you start buying presents? Are you one of those people who think about elf wrapping paper in July?

I used to shop months in advance but nowadays I end up having to do the Christmas present rush a few days before which can get a bit crazy.

You're known for your sense of style so does that mean there's more pressure on you to give the perfect and cool gift?

No, I hope not! But I do like to keep gifts personal, it's not about how much money someone spends but how much thought they have put into it.

What's the most successful present you've ever given and who was it to? (did they yelp and jump up and down)

Last Christmas I gave my Grandma a Chanel suit, she's always always wanted one. She cried and cried, after she got over the crying she did yelp and do a happy dance though!

If you could be anywhere on Christmas Day where would it be? At home or on a beach?

Somewhere where it snows and a comfy couch with a fire and my Mum's cooking. Yum.

When you travel what do you always take on a plane?

A bottle of water, a notepad, pens and lip-balm. I tend to pick these up at the airport as life is too busy to be that prepared before you go...

What kind of music do you like to listen to while flying, or do you prefer to watch films?

I do a bit of both but mostly I try and catch up on much needed sleep. Often I'll have to get off a plane and go on a shoot that day or the next so it's important I try and rest as much as I can to fight the jet lag!

Which of these best describes you: beach bum, culture vulture, or thrill seeker?

I'm all three rolled into one. Seriously.

What's been the best holiday of your life?

I think my favourite was when I went to Morocco a few years ago, it's just such an amazing place, I had a huge culture shock but the food was amazing, I had such a great time with my family and I loved how every building was like a diamond in the rough. From outside they looked like dilapidated shacks but when you go inside they are the most magical places with beautiful tiling and fountains, statues, and the most fantastic shopping! We came home with 15 rugs, 45 lanterns, a couple of suitcases... yes it was really good fun.

Name three songs on your iPod that would relax you during a flight.

Tricky - Ponderosa
Kid Harpoon - Aeroplanes and Neon Lights
Stone roses - I Want To Be Adored

Can you recommend a brilliant holiday read?

Yes, Catch 22.

Which celebrity, past or present, would you be excited to find sitting next to you on the plane?

Jimmi Hendrix - I'd have a full on heart attack. Jeez, I love him.

Are you a spontaneous traveller, or do you plan holidays months in advance?

If I am going away with my family, it's usually planned as there are lots of us - otherwise, if I can grab a few days off work it's spontaneous. I recently went to Dubai at the last minute and it was amazing. The best fireworks display ever. I was hanging out with Mischa Barton which was a little surreal seeing as I used to watch her in the OC religiously!

She's freakishly good looking right? Now, what are your packing rituals? Any tips? Do you write out a list first? My friend does this - weird but it works as she never forgets a thing...

There are two sides to my suitcase so top half: shoes and bags and accessories, bottom half: one side is a pile of my shorts, skirts, trousers and the other side is my tops, jackets and dresses with my underwear around the sides and camera in the middle. It's fail safe, classic items and all very neatly folded I might add. Sorry, I really must be boring you by now....

Is there something you always forget to pack?

Not really, maybe a charger for a phone, camera or laptop might have happened once or twice but you can always buy another at the airport plus it is better value there anyway.

If you were buying Christmas presents for people at the airport which brands would you be looking out for?

I like to buy personal gifts so I'd check which stores are going to be there first then seek out something special when I get there. I know I said I leave it late but...

What helps you to relax while travelling?

Lavender and camomile oil and the fact my mobile is switched off!

Describe your earliest memory of flying in an airplane?

Going on holiday with my grandparents and asking my grandpa Eddie if we could go in smart class because we had managed to get upgraded the time before apparently...

What would you suggest to travellers hoping to explore a new city?

Get a local to show you the real city rather than the tourist guide. It's always much more of an adventure!

Back to Christmas, if you were given a flight to anywhere in the world as one of your presents where would it be going?

That's a hard one, I can't narrow it down to one so here we go - Japan, Australia, China, Jamaica or Tibet. Not in order of importance either.

Finally, what are you secretly hoping Santa brings you this year?

Some nice pyjamas, more Agent Provocateur undies (can a girl ever have enough?!), Diptyque candles, a dining table, long trench coat by Burberry, Gucci riding boots, long black cardigan by Alexander Wang, Godsave Mcqueen jumper and an embellished cuff by Christian Lacroix!! Quite a mixture but all essential items.

So Daisy Lowe - with her long legs and adorable smile you might want to hate her. But actually it's impossible. She likes a beach and loves her mum's cooking and wants a sparkly cuff for Christmas. I might have to get her one....

She is so cute, but she really doesn't have a high fashion look... She seems to belong more to the 'it girl' category to me
