Everyone wants too see what they "like" in editorials - if you don't get what you like, doesn't mean the work isn't good. This story was perfect for Vogue Paris - just not perfect for eword but you can't please everyone ;)

Did I miss something or does she only have the Stefanel campaign for ss 12? I haven't been around for some time ...

I think the reason why her work is not as interesting as in previous years is she works with the same handful of photographers and they all want to do the same thing with her. They aren't taking risks with her. She as the model doesn't have any say when it comes to the direction or inspiration for the shoot. Even Mario Testino, who I think she works well with, only shoots her for Stefanel. It's been a long while since she's done a really amazing editorial. When Daria does put out something that's glorious, it's usually a product of a photographer she has only worked with a few times like Cass Bird or Derek Kettela. I wish more photographers would work with her like maybe, Willy Vanderperre or Meisel for instance.

^ i totally agree.

of course it's not her responsability. another piece to add is that probably she gets most of these repetitive eds just by lancome, so the target of works is definitely low from a creative point of view and the kind of representation means to presenting her as a sexy woman loving the sea (which imo is a complete failure cos you can get the conventional sex appeal from a 100% tomboy as daria; you just get tired and mechanic posing like, as i said, 'hands-always-over-head').
when she still happens to work with major photographers, like Demarchelier for her nude ed last year - or 2 years ago - or Richardson for those natural intense close-ups, or with an unconventional gender-bending artist like Cass Bird, she still does great things. so it's just a matter of opportunities.

I'm gonna break the tension in here a bit and say that I LOVED the Vogue Paris editorial. It may not be a masterpiece, but the shots with the grey background are simple and beautiful. I mean c'mon guys, there are over 60 shots in this editorial...that much Daria is always better than no Daria at all.

on my side, there is no tension at all. it's simply a discussion. :)

No tension here either but still thank you, Candice. :) I'm glad to hear you liked it. I like some of the shots too, but I wanted more out of this editorial and it definitely did not blow me away. As ALAUU said though, and I completely agree, photographers are just not taking risks with her. As a professional photographer myself, it is amazing to work with a model who knows what she is doing and knows her angles, but in the end you make the picture, not the model. A good photographer can make a good picture out of a spoon, though of course it helps if the spoon is gorgeous and knows what looks good on her. There are some terrible models out there (and they are a pain to work with!) but when you work with a model like Daria, in the end it's the photographer's fault. In any case, art is subjective, so I can definitely respect it if someone doesn't like something. That doesn't necessarily make it bad though.

+ h&m campaigns(2 so far), and maiyet plus lancome on the top of it. it would be nice to have a blue chip on the top of it but u can't ask her to deliver blue chip campaigns one after another.

for a model like daria, im sure we will see more repetitive works from her. she has done almost everything, what else to be done with a model like daria who has a million photo takens already?

im sure we will see same concepts and executions in new daria's works. im happy with her works as long as she can show maturity and depth in them. maiyet and salvatore f/w 11 campaigns prove that.

First thought in the morning when you open your eyes?
Here we go again! In a positive state of mind most of the time, but not always ...
A sport to relax when you are upset?
Skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding ... In short, everything that is played on a board and can pick up speed.
Comfort food when you have the blues?
Dark chocolate, radical.
A protocol anti-jet lag to get fresh?
The jet lag, what is it? Honestly, when you travel as much as me,you do not even think about it any more. The secret is, to eat slightly to readjust more easily.
A mantra to recite to see the bright side of life?
This too shall pass ...
A drink to relax Facing the Sea?
A glass of red wine.
A meditation exercise to step back?
Play guitar and draw, two activities that make me disconnect.
An emotion when you are in the middle of the ocean at night, a bar of your boat?
Peace, integral, intense, profound. I even had strange feeling, with songs and lights that seemed unreal carry the boat ...
A breakfast special model marathon?
Tofu + kale +vegetable juice.
A personal look to be sure of yourself?
A leather jacket, without hesitation.
A smell to remind you of where you come from?
Beeswax and wood burning stove, which remind me of my grandmother and my country of Ukrainian origin, Poland.
A landscape that makes you feel in your element stack?
West Cork, Ireland. I just bought a house facing the sea, as we speak right now. There is the storm outside and it is gorgeus.
A dream to go elsewhere in the world?
The Iceland for the absence of noise, light and unique atmosphere peaceful, of absolute purity.
An alternative medicine to feel always on top?
Deep Tissue Massage Sanctuary of Soho in New York, a place that I adore. The acupuncture back to the energies. And Myofascial Release Treatment, a manual therapywhich resolves the whole body, invented by John F. Barnes who still practices in Arizona.
A reflex beauty mine anti tired?
For me, the serum by Lancome Génifique work wonders.
A make-up type to seduce?
Red lips, it is always sexy, right? Right now, I like L Absolu Nu No. 102 Rouge Nu of Lancome.
A place to unwind most of all?
On top of a mountain at the edge of a cliff in the middle of the ocean or in the depths of a forest. All raw nature, with no one around. I am surrounded by so many people all year long...
A life philosophy to share with your future children?
Enjoy the change, at any moment.
An experience that marked your life?
With my boyfriend, we followed a family of shamans in the Amazon for three weeks. A mind-blowing experience that opens your spirit radically .____

Can someone who can read the interview in the original text, translate what this means? That last part about "country of Ukrainian origin, Poland."

"A smell to remind you of where you come from?
Beeswax and wood burning stove, which remind me of my grandmother and my country of Ukrainian origin, Poland."

Thanks.

It says "which reminds me of my Ukrainian grandmother and my country of origin, Poland". :flower:
