well, i'm first to say that's an extreme view.
there're also things in-between, i'm thinking of her amazing prada and chanel campaigns. also ysl, last year.
i also like what she did for gucci, though that isn't my kind of things.

And before you read the interview, I just wanna let you know that the Japanese language isn`t really clear-it`s not very logical, and there are some parts where I had to kind of complement what Daria probably have said (before it was translated into Japanese).

Michika: How did you feel when you were chosen as the muse for Lancome? And how was the shooting in Prague?I heard the shooting was done in a famous movie studio.

Daria: Oh, I feel very honored that Lancome chose me. It`s not an experience every model can have, so I must say I`m very lucky. Through Lancome, I got a "voice". With this "voice", I am hoping that I can help women realize the beauty each and every obe of us has
It`s a special "job" for me because actually, I myself used to be very ashamed of modeling. But now, beacause I`ve come to love who I am, I love my job! The shooting in Prague...well, if I were to put it in one word, it`ll be "long".(laughs) But I had a great time acting in front of a lot of cameras. We really concentrated on making the film as good as possible, with everyone sharing ideas. When you take a movie, a lot more is required than when you just take pictures, beacause you know, you really need to express yourself through your every move. I learnt a lot from this shooting. But as I repeat, it definitely took a really really long time!(laughs)

Michika: What do you think of models who shift to acting, like Cameron Diaz? I watch a lot of movies, and I feel that the two (models and actresses) are alike in some ways, but totally different at the same time. Actresses on screen have a stronger aura than models. (hey that`s kinda rude!) Are you thinking of becoming an actress?

Daria: I`m attracted to directing films rather than being in one. Of course, acting is very interesting, and the more you act, the more you have fun doing it. I realized how wonderful acting is through a short film for Prada, and I also am eager to do more. But actually making the film, is what I wish to do. Right now, I`m working on a short movie as a producer in Vancouver. I`m hoping to study both the front (acting) and the back(producing and directing) sides of making a movie. It`s amazing when you get to express what`s inside your mind in a film. The same thing goes for acting too. Acting is a beautiful way of expressing your inner self, and it`s a special talent that certain people have by nature. Let`s hope I have that talent too (laughs). Either way, I would definitely like to be involved in making movies.

Michika: Having studied art , I suppose it`s quite easy for you to have a clear image of what you want to make.

Daria: Well, yes, I can do that.

Michika: Does your image spread when you work with talented photographers?

Daria: I hope so. I`m often inspired by my fellow models and creative photographers. Especially Karl! I can`t even imagine what`s going inside his head because he`s so creative!
When I first started modeling, there were some tough times, being in a unique environment where you meet so many people with strong personalities. I kept asking myself:"Why am I modeling? I`m not that beautiful." You know, it`s really hard for a 14-year-old girl to handle all the things that happen in this industry. You don`t even fully understand yourself! But without undergoing those mental conflicts, I wouldn`t have been me.

Michika: Why do you think you`ve become so successful in the industry after you quit and then started again?

Daria: Because I matured! (laughs) By the time I came back to modeling, I wasn`t all that nervous, not that insecure like I used to be. What the people around me thought of me, I didn`t really care. During my year off, recharging my batteries, I grew to know who I am. That `s when I finally got to like myself. So when I tried out modeling for the second time, I was confident that though I may affect people around me, they won`t affect me that I would be someone else.

Michika: Being yourself is indeed important, yes. But you also had the luck too, didn`t you?

Daria: Maybe encountering Miuccia Prada was when everything started to work out. 3 years ago, I got to be in her show, also in her ads as well.

Michika: Oh, I LOVED that collection by Prada! With a bit of traditional feeling to it, it really was great on you.

Daria: Three years from that collection, do I still look good?

Michika: Of course! (laughs) By the way, do you use perfume in your daily life?

Daria: I do apply a little bit of scented oil. I used to use my mom`s when I was little...now my own. I love Hypnose, the perfume from Lancome. It`s feminine, but spicy at the same time. Don`t you think the bottle`s beautiful too? It`s shape was inspired by Japanese dresses, kimonoes.

Michika: Yes, indeed. I also heard that you use Lancome Juicy Tubes. I love them myself!

Daria: I`ve been using it for quite a long time---ever since I was in highschool. I would also recommend the new lipsticks, Color Fever. No.315 in particular. It`s very natural, and not artificial.

Michika: I think you look great with that natural makeup you have on right now since you have such a beautiful face. By the way, one lipstick can change one`s face dramatically.

Daria: Would you recognize me even if I put on a different lipstick?(laughs)

Michika: Yes I sure will, okay i won`t say it changes you THAT much. (laughs) Looking at you in person, you`re a natural beauty. I must say you`re extremely beautiful.

Daria: Thank you, but "beautiful" is only a subjective feeling. Talking about makeup, I love the fact that by applying makeup, you can feel like you`re someone else, with a different character.

Michika: Changing the subject, you seem to be the type that loves going outdoors.

Daria: That`s because I grew up in Canada, where you see and feel nature. Snowboarding and sailing are my favorites, and my dream is to sail all the way around the world. Excercising is a part of my life. It`s so important for your health. I`m thinking of starting t`ai chi, as a matter of fact.

Michika: Do you play sports on your days off?

Daria: Like you said, I love sports. Whenever I don`t have work, I spend my time out in nature-. I also go to art galleries or stay at home with my cat. When you live in the city where it`s always busy, you need to make sure you have some quiet time...balancing those two is very important.

Michika: Nowadays, young women seem to be obsessed with dressing or looking exactly like celebs...what do you feel about that, being one of those "celebs"?

Daria: The fashion industry is getting huge...and that makes some people think that models are ,in a way, like those hollywood stars. But in this industry, models appear and the next second, they disappear. They`re the center of attention for, say, 2 or 3 years and then, you forget them. You rarely get the chance to actually know what that model` s like, what they`re thinking...people try to be like one simply because they`re pretty. So I don`t think we`re those typical celebrities. Anyhow, I would look for something more than what you can see from the outside.

Michika: So, who is your rolemodel?

Daria: My mother and my grandmother. They have made me who I am today. My grandmother has led a hard life-she was forced to live in a concentration camp in Poland for ten years during WW2. My parents moved to Canada when me and my two siblings were still very young, and they raised us in a foreign land, where they didn`t know anybody. My mother still has three jobs! She`s a hardworking woman. I truly look up to her as well as my grandmother.

Michika: Is there any actor you adore?

Daria: Hmmm...(thinks for a while). I think Philip Seymour Hoffman is a great actor.

Michika: Daria, are you really 22 yrs old?? You`re so umm...mature!(laughs)

anyway, thanks yuris, you did a great job, but it was worthy!
you see the difference when an interview is done by someone with some culture. of course, there's a piece they've to talk about lancome...
and of course i love the part where she's talking about being a director or a producer. i'm not surprised she said that, that's what all her previous interviews were leading. so, now we also know what movie she's producing, a short movie, as i was expecting. and no surprise she said that she felt ashamed to be a model.

(well, maybe 'mature' wasn't the right term! ;) - and i love it she has a cat! she said that already though)

Wow, that interview was certainly interesting. The girl definitively has personnality. Daria is really an inspiration

pinkylam, are you sure the Lancome picture is not of Daria? There's another Lancome one, I think it's the most officially known one, where they seem to have completely erased her already very thin features. This pic looks like they could have done the opposite, I can't match this model with any of the other ones Lancome are using at the moment. Do you know the name of this model?
