Designers fight having their clothes on the "wrong" celebs

it is true that the feeling towards a piece of clothing can change if you see it on the wrong person.
I had a lanvin dress for a newyears reception and I saw it on alex curran on the cover of ok I was not so sure anymore about a dress I liked sooo much before.
on the other hand I had already retired my YSL boots for the second time and again Madonna is still wearing them so they are not ready for retirement yet...

They do it to themselves as well...Lohan for Chanel? The Olsens for Bagdley? That makes me want to buy it less.

I have a theory. Rachel Zoe kind of came out of nowhere. She was a plant by the corparations, to make us think these girls are stylish. They appear in all of the magazines, so we think their like is ultra glamorous.

People therefor want to be them, so they endorse things, so we we spend money. The corparations make more money, while the consumer feels a high, because she wears _______ Just like ______, which means I'm almost a hollywood starlet, right?

Zoe was a plant! :ninja:

while i understand the designers' concern, i still think its very snobbish of them to decide who wears what. imagine if you walk to Tom Ford and ask to purchase something of his design and he looks at you from head to toe and says : no you're not suitable for the image! haha i would slap him and probably consider him the worst designer ever. he should be glad i'm considering his clothes. And as much as everyone here loves fashion and is on top of everything new , most of the people dont know about the new bags and new shoes until they see them on celebrities. i think victoria drew sooo much attention to Cavali's dresses more than any marketing campaign he's ever done and he is everywhere now and i;m guessing sales at cavali are higher then where Tom Ford is.

if they dont want britney and victoria wearing their stuff what are they gonna do next? go after every unappropriate socialist in the countries of the world and stop them from wearing the designs ? i'd be glad if my maid wears my designs and shows off in front of her friends! designers should be more concerned making their next real outbreak in fashion then worrying who wears what cause a true great design can never loose its value no matter who is wearing it!

You serious??? thats your business but can you please reason that for me?
I doubt most ppl on the street ran out an bought your Lavin dress or can Identify your YSL Boots. Those seem safe from mainstream

^It's not about how other people conceive you but how you want to feel in the dress.

If having had Alex Curran seen in the dress devalues the dress for you, then it's perfectly ok to feel a little iffy about wearing it. I know I'd feel like a piece of clothing had been tainted if someone like Jennifer Ellis was wearing it..... unlikely scenario but I do think these things have reverberations on how you see your clothing choices. Such is the increasing irritation of 'bad celeb' land.

Christian Loubitin should be more worried that Mariah Carey ans JLo are wearing his shoes...not the "wags".

Are you talking about that Dior Homme "The End" tee shirt? Talk about catastrophic.
Also, I think the designers might have the wrong idea about their target audience and design philosophy if gets picked-up by (what they consider) the wrong people. As the article said, Marc Jacobs, for example, isn't being "WAG-ed" because its aestetics is just too far from the taste of the 'wrong' people. You get what you deserve it seems?
haha:lol:
as much as i like dior homme and hedi slimane..that 'the end' shirt i cant stand..instead of reading those none sense words i read "im the s__t cause i own a dior homme"
yes..i can understand why victoria picked gucci or roberto cavalli or stella

i can never imagine victoria wearing (as stated) marc jacobs
good thing

why should he?
his shoes are covered with sex
though i dont consider neither of them sexy..but the masses do
i can see why these two women choose louboutin

I personally dont find his shoes on women sexy they remind me of maybe a libirian. Or the ones who are nerds but have banging bodies I think girls look hotter in stillettos anyday

im not really sure about the other WAGs since im not that fimilar with any except vic beckham, and i know, if i was tom ford id do the same
man i never thought that the birkin could look as bad...
why do i smell selftanner and sweats everytime i look at a picture of hers? :\

It happens in the mainstream world too. Sass and Bide use to be really cool a few years back in australia. But now every second high school girl is wearing them, so most people that use to wear them, don't.

If you see someone you don't highly respect with their fashion, and they are wearing similar clothes to you, of course you'd be put off. It's okay if you have the same top or something, because you match it with different things and pull it off better than them. But things like bags and jeans just don't work that way.

Yeah I must say most of the WAGS make designer stuff look really cheap.

i thik this sort of thinking opens the gats to all sorts of discrimination. isn't it classist to say ---eww no white trash can wear my stuff? how is this sort of discrimination diff from Miuccia thinking her topp line is too good to be modeled on black women? atleast these women arer PAYING to wear the clothes

whoa...what exactly did she say? and when was that?? :(

i think its best i don't aswer that..... maybe we you can pm me.

i think that marc jacobs got the whole celebrity thing right. He doesn't care who you are, top model, junkie actor, hip hop superstar... And that is the right attitude. Everyone has something valuable about them and can bring a new perspective to the clothing. Even posh can look good on occasion i'm sure. Maybe not, i just googled her and oh my g*d, WOW...

I may have to eat my own words but has anyone been to the ed hardy website?, I know its not "designer" in the full sense but I just ordered a shirt an stumbled upon their (excuse me I almost vomited) celebrity page. I want to know who their PR director is because they are giving anyone and I mean ANYONE free stuff so they can say they wear it Bobby Brown,UFC Cage Fighters,Paris Latis,Jenna Jameson,Hasselholf,AZ(local phoenix rapper on mtv made)the list goes on I had a good laugh Im happy I didnt pay full price for his crap becuase they will give it to any A-F list celebrity. I just found it funny an had to mention since on the subject.

^ Uhm, yeah. Ed Hardy probably gives Chris Knight (of the original Brady Bunch) free stuff, he's always in Hardy...He's C-List with a capital C.

I dont blame them, I would be mortified to see my top plastered across Posh's plastic chest, Id call the police. Assault w/ poor taste.

My general rule is, as soon as the tourists or WAGs pickup on a brand or trend, it's dead.

Imagine if Posh weren't rich how cheap she'd look. I mean she spends thousands on looking that cheap already.
