Designers Switching Houses & Moving to New Brands

Balenciaga was stale in sales in the last report, if my memory does not fail. The thing is AM and Demna are both the same kind of "one trick pony". No one can expect anything new at Gucci by Demna...it´s going to be the same Margielisms and post-soviet crap as in Vetements and Balenciaga.
I am excited about new Gucci x Demna sneakers.

This gives me, like, a hundred more reasons why that I can care less about this brand. Just go back to being a glorified accessories brand, and stay out of actual fashion-design.

There is going to be a lot of debut show next September!

Chanel: Mathieu Blazy
Dior: JW Anderson (or maybe his debut will be during Menswear/ Couture?)
Celine: Michael Rider
Gucci: Demna
Bottega: Louise Trotter
Versace: Dario Vitale
Loewe: Proenza Boys
Jil Sander: Simone Bellotti
Carven: Mark Howard
Balenciaga: ??

Did I miss something?

Who can keep up? I'm bored with each and every one of them already.

Daniel Lee is at Jil Sander, JW Anderson is still at Loewe, Proenza Schouler designers are still at Proenza Schouler. Those last two are rumors.

Exactly, just make nice accessories. Be like the Italian Coach or something...

You missed some insights posted in the forum in the past few months...
- JWA has been seen in the Dior ateliers since beginning of the year and his team already moved from Loewe HQs in there...
- Proenza boys left PS in January, they are currently unemployed but they're going to Loewe

The only speculation we made up with is that Maria Grazia wants to have all the spotlight possible for her farewell show in Rome for the Cruise show (as she deserves in my opinion), that's why official statements regarding the appointments have not been released yet

I hope all those hires means strong and distinctive designs identity. It’s maybe time for brands to stop copying each others.

I don’t know if this new roaster of CD means that clients will follow. Some brands have an unfair advantage (Chanel, Gucci, Dior) compared to others. But I think it’s healthy and interesting.

There’s clearly a generation shift with this. Most of those designers owes their fashion education to the 90’s. This is the Tom Ford for Gucci generation, a generation that grew up with Creative Directors when the previous generation had to become that role.

Haider Ackermann, Nicolas Ghesquiere, Sarah Burton and Silvia Fendi (if she stays) are now the veterans. It will be interesting to see if the choice at Balenciaga will follow the generational shift.

Is Martina Tiefenthaler still working with Demna? I don't really keep up with the people there...

If so, I'm curious if she'll follow him at Gucci or if they would consider her for the job at Balenciaga...

Her name got mentioned so many times in the past months (sometimes I suspect she's behind it and it's a signal she wants to go solo). But then I would wonder what's the point for Kering to have Demna and Demna-adjacent?

Got laid off in March 2024 after constant beef with Lotta...those are the rumors
So yeah, no Martina at Gucci

She left the studio in January 2024 due to disagreements with Demna and an internal Kering legal issue, Lotta and Demna stopped their collaboration around Resort 2018 collection.
