Designers Switching Houses & Moving to New Brands

To me a big part of the problem is that Fashion and Luxury have become obsessed with money.
Not a single one of the artists we love, from Vionnet to Lacroix, went into Fashion to make lots of money. Money was a mean to sustain your project, but not the finality.
Jacques Fath wasn't obsessed with money. He was obsessed with a certain idea of a woman and with doing the most astonishing gown you've ever seen.

Now, most of the houses that after all we love, are in the Stock Exchange.
If their yearly growth is under two digits, drama. You are a loser.
But if the collections are bad, nobody cares (as long as they sell).

The fact that they only owe economical explanations (the reports to the shareholders) speaks volumes about what part play creativity, integrity and excellence in this industry.

Clearly considering current numbers, what they've decided so far hasn't proven to be the right way.

If it all crumbles, perhaps we'll see a new wave of CEOs that have creative backgrounds and it'll get exciting again? We shall see.
What brands need to do is turn their fashion into a statement: something that is carefully thought out, meticulously executed, and honest to its very core. That, and that alone, can make them successful for years to come. Even if some collections are, well, blunders, true style will eat quarterly revenue growth for breakfast.

Milan based brand right? I think I know exactly who you’re talking about but can’t say because it’ll de-anon me v v v quickly … :zorro::zorro::zorro:
de-anoning myself is a fear i go to bed with every time i wrote something but then i wake up the next day and choose violence again ( the truth again )!!!!!

lol

1000000000 % agree

i try to say this many times the general wave of pointing at the suits as if they hold the pencil to design is largely a myth even if lots of management are not great but if an Cd can't come up with a great bag or fashion show or brand image its 99.9% to do with the CD´s own lack of vision or creativity from my experience especially when you have design teams to do anything for you like scout ideas etc and you still end up with not much.

regardless of pressure to be commercial or selling , having no point of view is the problem of many brands CD´s then sure there is the rest but thats details however important for the flow of the process for brands to sell or be a hype etc
Thank you! The way these young designers, Sabato, McGirr, and even Lee for Buberry have failed to create commercial it products bags/shoes (or outerwear for Lee) is a huge reason why these brands are struggling.

What is more frustrating about the fashion system today is that customers are being brainwashed that they have to spend tons of money to have good taste and designers have the elitism mindset of creating extremely expensive items to justify the value of their work which is rather questionable since everything has been done to death nowadays. Unlike in the past, the fashion system nowadays is just selling the illusion of exclusiveness to trick the general public to become part of it while it is still it’s a big club, and you ain’t in it in the sense of social context.

So…Loewe? What is happening?

Are the Proenza boys really happening or is it just a rumour? Because it is quite random to be honest. I am at a loss as to why and how they made sense for a brand as important as Loewe?
I am HOPING that this is a rumour because it brings no excitement in any way. No one that talks about it is excited about it :ermm:
