Designers Switching Houses & Moving to New Brands

Well, it's official.

Via WWD:
Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, better known as the duo behind New York label Proenza Schouler, are the new creative directors at Loewe, effective April 7.

They succeed Jonathan Anderson, who officially stepped down last week after an acclaimed 11-year tenure that catapulted the Spanish house into fashion’s big leagues.

That development further clears the the way for Anderson to eventually take up a creative role at Dior, as reported. Loewe and Dior are both owned by French luxury group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.

Confirming a widely expected move exclusively to WWD, Loewe said McCollough and Hernandez would carry “the entire creative responsibility of all Loewe collections across womenswear, menswear, leather goods and accessories.”

So smart of LVMH tho. Picking designers that will keep the brand going under JA vibes for a few years. So we can focus on the new Dior, most customers won't even know the change.
The real smart would have chosen designers to push forward the Loewe JWA created, not just regurgitate previous collections and vibes.
Will they work from NYC or live in Spain ?

Honestly think Dior would pick JW so he can aggressively push the "artisanal quality" narrative and to erase the bad press of their labor exploitation.
The bag that has gotten them bad press will probably get discontinued indeed.
I think the success of Loewe was that they sold mostly leather bags.
So I expect him to come up with a new leather bag and from Dior to discontinue progressively the fabrics book bags.

They are not moving to Paris and going back to back to Spain?

I'm not for PS appointment at all but same time who are the designers that could be chosen to push forward the JWA Loewe, that can the tick the boxes for LVMH?
His right hands are going with him to Dior, so there cant be a Daniel Lee to Matthieu Blazy type transition. Loewe JWA is based on Jonathan's intuition with interesting surprises, they would have had to find someone with a similar process of quirky art to commerce sensibility, but LVMH usually go with experienced CD's and maybe those options would want to implement their own POV rather than follow someone else. LVMH may want someone more 'moldable' to not confuse the customer that they've built (again not that I at all agree with PS).

Loewe design offices are based in Paris, Madrid is for the Craft and general HQ.

I know nobody cares but who is taking over Proenza Schouler? Is the company able to pay the right talent?
Still championing Phillip Lim…

Phillip Lim is so good...actually he good be a good fit for an european house...he is very talented
I wanted him at Kenzo. I think in order for Kenzo to actually work, you need a HF proposition, detached from all the logos but with someone that has the sensibility to touch on the Japanese heritage without it being too folkloric or juvenile.
What Nigo is doing is very Juvenile.
He could be great for Joseph too.

You mean "Embroidered in India, Assembled in France"?
I mean it’s artisanat. But there’s something very interesting about those conglomerates. They uses marketing to accept the idea of using great savoir-faire in India or Madagascar for the making of their RTW, from decision made to control costs but they works with subcontractors in Italy who operates as sweatshops to make bags and accessories when they can literally open facilities in either Spain or Portugal and be clean about it.

I know that in terms of logistic and efficiency those sweatshops are exceptional but at some point it’s ridiculous.
