Difficult Designer / Brand Pronunciation

The two most controversial pronounciations here are Proenza Schouler and Ghesquiere, right? I am almost positive that Tim Blanks (host of Fashion File, a Canadian fashion show) when interviewing these people pronounces:
GHESQUIERE: hess-key-eh
PROENZA SCHOULER: proenza shoe-ler

I don't believe that's the correct way to pronounce Rive Gauche. The first word (rive) doesn't have that "vay" thingy. It's actually more like (guttural R pronounced a bit as a g) Rivvv Gosh. It would be ri-vay if it had an accented e, which it doesn't. It actually comes from the same word as river, i think, since it means the bank of a river.

Thanks for the link, Chris Booth! I've never known whether to say "Versa-tchi" or "Versa-tché".

It's Rive as in Keanu Reeves, but with a slightly rolled R.
Gauche is pronounced like oa in goat. Goash.

It's Anne yes (like Anne and yes )
And B is pronounced like the be- of better not like bay.

Another way to help, you can pronounce the gn in Agnes as
ñ in señorita.

Hi all :) I found this fabulous site while googling "how to pronounce Louboutin" and am I so glad I came acrosss this little gem of a knowledge base! I see an abundance of fashionistas on here so can one of you give me the pho-net-ic-al please.. And if you happend to know where I can scoop up a pair of black patent stacked or cork bruges this late in the game it would be much appreciated ;)

Hello Elly, welcome to tFS!

'Louboutin' is pronounced loo - boo - tahn
loo like loser
boo like boob
tahn like tank, but with more of a nasaly 'h' sound.

I'm no expert, just a totally appreciative fan, so maybe try asking the posters in the Christian Louboutin thread where the best place to find bruges is.

So, according to this board, there are about 3 different "right" pronounciations to every designer.. How helpful.

It annoys me when people pretend to know all about fashion and then pronounce Givenchy as, "give-en-shee." Ugh.

Your sarcasm isn't going to make it clearer is it?

 nice one lol... being french, i don't have that prob

i was thinking... maybe native speakers who can be bothered could make some vocal records of designers' names ?

French speaker here, but it's hard to tell what's difficult to pronounce for the anglophones, I'm very familiar with Japanese also.
So, for French or Japanese designers, you can always ask me! :flower:

When it comes to Christian Louboutin, although I think it is also pronounced as UniqueChic says, I have heard it other ways... Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex pronounced it "lah-boo-tahn" and it was weird that in The Devil Wears Prada they spell it "Laboutin" so it made me think if it maybe is actually pronounced that way, and then the writer in Prada just thought, because of the pronounciation, that it was spelled with an a... anyone?

@ La bordélique: I'm french and i don't wanna hurt you and i don't want you to take it the wrong way but accent from québec ain't exactely the right french accent  (i love your accent BTW so no offence at all lol - plus i dunno if your canadian or french living there :idk: )
