Difficult Designer / Brand Pronunciation

^^as you seem to know better than that, care to elaborate dear?

the herve leger pronouncition is correct, or as close as you can get spelling it phonetically

^ The second part, well ok- but not the first, unless the women in the Paris store don't know how to pronounce it- and they didn't say lay-jay either...?

And no need to be rude borjacapella

Lah-boo-ta and you don't quite pronounce the n or I've heard SA's pronounce it Lou-boo-ta

The prior isn't with an Air either but an Er

is the about.com site saying the designers correctly, otherwise its just another person giving their own pronuciations

This whole thread is full of people debating the french pronunciation. I think it just has to be more with phonetics since there is nothing to really describe the 'ger' sound so we say 'jay' instead since it's the closest. Neither 'air' nor 'er' really describe the sound but it's as close as you get with what we have at hand to describe it

Hmm... I'm a French speaker. I don't see what's wrong with the loo boo tin pronounciation. How do you say it then?

Givenchy i know now its Gee Vawn Chee.. i hope from the secret world of haute couture

which is why i made the point that hearing it is best for everyone, since there are people from all over the world on tfs, ok

yes I think just hearing some basic phrases in french helps with understanding the flow and pronunciation....

Hey! I'm new here! and as a french speaker going to an english school, i'm gonna try to help clear things up!

In french, we don't pronounce the n's in Lanvin/Louboutin/Givenchy like in spanish or english...that is, we don't pronounce it at all! If you say -in- in spanish or english, you can still make out the nnnn-sound. If you pronounce it the french way, it makes a more nasal-y sound. So the pronunciation loo-boo-tin for Louboutin is good...if you read it the french way! :P I cant find an equivalent for the french -in- in english though. The -an- and -en- are pronounced the same way in french, the way you would pronounce it in JeanPG or Christian Lacroix/Dior.

Also, that reminds me: the G is soft in front of an e, i or y and hard when in front of an a, o or u. The hard sound is how you would pronounce it in english (game, give...but not gem!), but the soft sound is similar to the french J-sound. I say "french", because in english the J or soft G sound are more like djee...

Okay, I don't know if that made any sense, or helped anyone, but that's all i have to say for now!:flower:

EDIT:^^it does make sense! thanks for posting! sometimes it gets awfully hard to describe sounds if the other has never heard them before :flower:

has junya watanabe been said yet? i've looked a bit through, maybe i skipped it! i've heard carine roitfeld say it in interviews, but no one else yet

how was i rude?l:o i found your intervention a bit too "sudden", a bit too harsh maybe ... but i wasnt complaining at all! I'm truly sorry if i sounded rude, i really only wanted your opinion on the matter, as you seemed to know how to say it:flower::flower:
