Dior Homme AW 05-06

Gaudy? I don't think that word comes to mind with this. This is definitely alot more quirkier and definitely a more refreshing side to Hedi's aesthetic. And John Galliano this is not. I hate the utter equation because it is nothing like that tripe.

Btw,what's so wrong with the gold? I don't think I heard complaints when Alexander did it last week.

It really gets me that when menswear gets a bit of feminin juxtopostions, people still are quite shocked by it. I'm happy he turned different leaf....its about time really...that style was really getting bland to me. Even Raf started doing some other things.

My feelings ENTIRELY , Scott .:flower:

This is really quite romantic to me....its nice to see some of that in menswear, finally. I think it's what I've been longing for for so long. And without any of that tradtional "what a man should wear" rubbish. Its got a bit of everything...tailoring mixed with blouses. And loads of exuberance. And frankly I see no traces of all that campy, clichéd Galliano/D2 nonsense.

I'm with you, Scott. I actually love the f*cked up mix of colors he's got going here, because all that staid sleek black and grey and neutrals was looking old - when H&M has versions of it, fashion needs to move forward. It's like Marc Jacobs with six lines of coke up its nose - color, mismatched, but edgy like (as men.style.com put it, very David Bowie in the 70s).

And as people who post and talk about fashion, I'm surprised at how vehemently many are against the show styling, when all it is is part of the show - it doesn't mean one has to wear it that way. Although, I suspect many a Dioriste hangs on every visual inch of Hedi's imagery, as evidenced by the maniacal scrutiny on the Dior groups, so if they can't deal with the whole image, perhaps they can't deal...? If you look at the full collection, you'll realize that what was posted here are some of the more outré looks, which aren't necessarily representative of the entire collection (in fact, are less than 30% of the looks, maybe less), and that much of the collection looks like it carries Hedi's standard looks as seen in seasons past. Take a look:

And mind you, the gold shoes are nothing new - I've been wearing my metallic gold snake Helmuts for months, and Hedi is showing them for next year? I've gotten nothing but compliments for them every time I wear them, and heard nary a twitter about them regarding Helmut's A/W 2004 show that featured them. Hedi's showing them in a similar to the way Helmut did too - starkly contrasting blacks & greys.

Well, if you say the looks posted here are the more daring ones, I'll have to take a look at the full collection and come back with my full thoughts, granted I haven't seen the whole thing yet...but I have to go all the way down to the computer lab to view the style.com slideshows because my computer crashes every time i try loading it!

Actually, alot of this reminds me a bit of a twisted fairy tale. I mean, the blouses are like are like a French medievel poet and the Grimm-like tailoring;combinded with the richness of the gold metallics. Its really quite interesting the combinations.

Don't do the slide show - just use the manual 'next' button. It's easier.

i like this..it looks like someone chopped off the bottom of the jkt...
very cool...imo...

everything else just s*cks... :ninja:

Alright, so I finally saw the whole collection...and basically I'm going to take the words I said earlier in this thread and eat them. I'm still not feeling some of the more sexually ambiguous looks like a few of the pictures on the first page here presented, but a lot of the darker looks I would definitely wear, as well as the sweater on Page 42 of the style.com slideshow. I would actually say this is a good direction for Dior Homme, with this collection being a much improved continuation of S/S 05's luxurious grunge aesthetic, developing the darker side of the rock n roll elegance that the brand has evolved into (this direction was also presented well with the background for the show, almost gives me a seedy NYC nightclub in the 70's feel, maybe some place where a seminal punk/garage band was playing that night). While this collection isn't all to my liking, there are more hits than misses and this is definitely a lot stronger than VotC and Beck.

I'm finally responding since I'm home from school and the innitial pictures are saw looked great. I was really feeling the "wonder bread" like polka dot cardigan. I think the collection is refreshing and I also agree that it's good to see Hedi doing other things. I mean, the most important aspect of Dior Homme is the fit.

I don't think a designer should make a habit of repeating the same look over and over. There should be a vibe or feeling that is the designers signature. I think Hedi's is the rockstar/hipster vibe of his collections. Very young and contemporary. With that in mind, do not thing he has strayed from this. I'm lovin' this and if I had the money I'd buy a great deal of it.

haha...I SAID THAT...at the beginning of the thread....
ZIGGY MEETS IGGY...

thanks for the link bakla..i still think it's a bunch of crap...
but i have to say...it does seem like some people are having trouble seeing the pieces pulled apart as they might actually be worn on the street...

perhaps the dior customer wants to be spoon fed?...
what happened to personal syle and creating your OWN look?!?!... :innocent:

Okay, I may get rocks thrown at me for this question...but what does "AW" in the title of this thread mean?

Honestly, my opinion of Hedi is that he is a one trick pony.
He does the rock-star looks and skinny suits.
This collection cements this for me.
It was exactly as I predicted after S/S 05.

Even if he goes off by himself, I don't know that he has the ability to make new and challenging clothing. Im sure it will still sell like hot cakes however.

It means autumn-winter.

After checking out the whole collection, I must say that I like most of it. Take away the gold shoes, huge bows around the necks and you've got alot of nice wearable pieces.

These I like:

(Like the fedora, jacket and scarf)

(Take off the bow and it looks pretty good)

Softie, I do agree with your statement about being 'spoon-fed' personal style.
Not everybody is like that, but sadly the majority of DH customers are.

Matt and everyone else, shall we discuss this in live chat?

Is it anything new though?

If you want good quality basics, you certainly need not go the DH route.

For me fashion must contain true innovation..
and that is becoming more and more difficult.

Softie,I hope you weren't referring to me. I've never,EVER liked Dior Homme and never fell for anything. I think I just like the style of this...but I highly doubt I'd buy any of it as I am always suspicious of quality et al. But some of it reminds me of my own taste. Maybe not so much the big bows but I like the exuberance of it and the texture.

I don't think she was talking about you...

I'm pretty sure she was referring to someone like me.

Well, just viewed the whole thing. Better than I originally thought from the early pictures, but definitely not great.
