Dior Homme F/W 06.07 Paris

I don't like the huge trousers that flare out at the bottom, but the rest is nice.

The only problem that I've got is that he re-used some of the models from SS06, it makes my eyes itch just a little bit coz I get SS06 flashbacks :)

^and he used some godawful ones as well. Take a look at the guy with the ears...and I mean EARS.

Also that guy from SS/06 that wore the red michael jackson jacket... He has such broad shoulders and no neck..objectively spoken he was not as bad as some of the other Iggypops out there but, something about those shoulders and neck made and still makes me very uncomfortable..I think it might be that whenever I see such a thing I wonder if that person has a dark secret or something.. I dunno, I just know it ruined the whole jacket for me.

Really don't like the guy with the fur either, he wore that cropped dinner jacket with a black "sun" tshirt in the SS06 show..

;)

This collection is like a mermaid; gorgeous to look at but there's not much you can do with it.

I like it, but my only issue with it is the lack of knitwear. I think more knits would have really pulled this together and helped to make it look more approachable for the average man. Just counting off the top of my head I remember only seeing about 3 knits.

In this collection there are lot of good stuff that I need to have like the jeans. I think they are awesome! But as a collection I find it a pit booring like faust said a while a go there is no edge to this collection. It's just pretty but nothing special.

The wideleged pants are too 30's to me but they look kind of good with the trenchcoat. The jackets and coats are pretty nice and very wearable. The fur...... Hmm..... Lets just be happy that it was only used in one garment.

The models look awful and I hate their haircut and the "display" of the collection in many ways felt kind of not dior hommeish but this might change when I see it in motion.

I wish there would of been some ground breaking pieces like there allways is in dior homme collection. Compared to s/s 06 it is in someways better but it has it's problems if you look at it as a whole collection, it doesen't have much change in to it. I mean it's fiene to use all blacks and greys but Hedi could've maid it more interesting or should I say the design team should've maid more interesting :)

I will buy something but still dissapointed. And about this being Hedi's last collection it might not be all bad we never know who will take over but if it is galliano we are screwd! BIG TIME! I hope Hedi will have his own label at some point.

you have a way with words M8, never heard that one before.

on closer inspection, there are very few items that i would actually buy.
not my thing, but that's what i said about Luster, which some one of just adore. after s/s 06, which i didn't care for, i was anxious to see what he would do next, well here it is, and i can't wait for the next show.

:heart:VotC

thanx for the pics.

that is freakin hilarious!!!but there are some cool things, the loose pants are nice, but the bell botoms:blink: otherwise, i guess the thing with dior is that they are always better closeup!

Love the return to form, though it's a lazy one, in my opinion. Some beautiful coats and jackets, but just compare things like that black leather jacket to those in old collections. This may be a huge improvement over the last couple collections in terms of aesthetic, but there's still a humongous lack of detail and/or personality in most of these pieces. The jeans are complete trash. That "design" is such a horribly amateurish idea. Unlike S/S 06, I would consider buying some of this collection...at least a few of the coats/jackets. I just hope that the improvement shown here carries over in the quality of the garments when they reach the stores, or this collection is a lost cause. So let's all hope for good quality.

The fit usually isn't relaxed in stores either, you are just presented with larger sizes.

i disagree. it seems that the sleeves are wider in the retail versions, and the armhole is also more relaxed. anyone else notice this?

Oh yeah? You think there's not much you can do with a mermaid? Hmmmm, I can think of a few things to get up to with a mermaid, depending on the mermaid.

Agreed, the sleeves, shoulder volumes and arm holes are more generous in many of the retail versions. In any event the runway versions (even of the jeans) are tailored to the models bodies. However, at least some of the 19cm retail jeans are super skinny. And some of the outerwear, even in recent collections fits nice and small in the above mentioned areas. The short military blazers from spring 05 for example (which were a special order in North America I believe) fit practically like knits in those proportions.

Not as bad as ss06, but what could be ;)
It's a little disapointing. Yes, it's ultra-tailored and nec-plus-ultra-classic ; but there's nothing we've never seen before. Where's the innovation?

think that you are deluding yourself if you think much of this collection is good for "casual wear".

There are certainly pieces like the leather jacket, trench-coat, classic suits, etc.

Hedi has formerly done the eveningwear for day thing. but using treated, or technical fabrics that contrasted well with the rest of Dior's look.
The very classic suiting fabrics used on some of the pieces here don't support the evening for day thing in my opinion.

Because of the very specific cut/proportions and formal suiting fabrics, items like the tail-coat and double breasted blazer would look quite awkward with jeans.

Agreed completely...I think this is a point that definitely needs to be understood better when viewing fashion collections in regard to incorporation with people's own personal aesthetics...the cut and fabrics are usually good indicators of what kind of setting the pieces are suitable for. And as much as I'm for "creating your own look," the runway styling and the overall tone of the collection provides a good guideline for how these pieces should be worn, and in this case, dressing these pieces down (like a lot of the examples fashionken pointed out, although I appreciate you taking the time to go into all those pictures), just don't work like that.

It's all dependent on taste. I've seen art students in jeans and tails and they look great- if you're an art student.
This was only a runway collection with one precise message. They'll be a showroom stuffed with goodies that will round out any other daily needs. Runway collections are only ever a slice of the pie after all.
Good or bad, his work is very influential, so if more young men can be persuaded to make an effort in their appearance then he's done a noble deed imo.

True...I'm not doubting there's going to be plenty of accessible stuff in the collection once it hit stores, but I was just making a comment on the majority of the very formal looking pieces in the show.

And yeah...ultimately, it's good Dior Homme has brought about a huge surge of interest in not just fashion and dressing up among young men, but also the discussion that these collections inspire.

I'm absolutely shocked that I decided to comment on this collection, and even more shocked that they're positive. I can't believe I liked a Dior Homme collection, but I do. I could never wear any of these clothes, I just don't have that rail-thin frame, but a lot of the suiting and coats were really nice. Nothing new, nothing extraordinary, but there was a refinement that I've never associated with Dior Homme. It has a lot to do with the styling though, it's very Belle Epque dandy, much more grown up thatn recent Dior Homme collections.

Since Dior Homme has become the go to brand for indie/hipster kids with money to spend will this new direction influence their style? Kind of like tabacco companies getting kids interested in cigarettes at a young age through various marketing schemes, so that when they're adults they're already hooked and ready to spend the money on the goods. Will the kids still spend the money and try to copy the look (despite the new direction) now that they've been hooked?

I feel people are getting too caught up in the presentation in regards to the possibilities of the pieces. Granted there's satin triming on many of the jackets, I do feel this discussion about it all being too evening wouldn't be happening if just about every pieces wasn't accessorized with a cumberbun and/or bowtie. Try to visualize many of the pieces with normal ties or denim bottoms (if that's your thing) and regular leather shoes.
