Do you mix metals?

I used to be very adamant about not mixing metals but lately I've found myself doing it on occasion. Its still something I'm a little anal about but I'm trying to not be so matchy matchy.

That said there is something thats just odd about it. I still feel as though its a faux pas on some level.

I do it all the time. My daily jewlery is a gold hoops, a gold necklace, and a silver metal watch. Then my bag hardware is whatever the bag has, I don't think about it.

That said, I don't have many bags with silver hardware because I don't like it. Most are gold or gunmetal or brass.

Basically no (I mostly use silver anyway)

but I did it once on purpose - silver shiny shoes and a gold cardigan. And the rest of the outfit had a rock vibe so it went alright. But I don't really like it.

I do. I think it makes for a less formal look, and i've been over matchy matching for a long time now. I do think a very shiny bright gold and a shiny silver almost never look good together but duller/darker ones often look great. I agree that it's def more of a rock 'n roll thrown together look which I like, as opposed to really meticulous and polished.

Sometimes, it depends how shiny the metals are. If the gold and silver, for instance, has a rather subtle and "dirty" hue, I like to mix them. If the metals all are quite shiny, I think it looks bad as they try to outshine eachother.

Anyhow, I prefer silver. I find it a lot more versatile and pretty than it's somewhat tacky older sister; gold.

No. I use gold only. So I never run into any problems.

I also don't wear a lot of metals. If I wear jewelry, I only wear one thing.

it can look good

i never really wear metals though
probably depends on the individual's style

someone should find example pictures

It's all subjective, but on a personal level, I find such rigidness a bit matronly. Seems much too small and irrelevant to be srsly bothered by. I also find it is much more interesting and fresh to mix varying elements, in all areas of fashion. Shows thoughtfulness and a keen mind. It is so easy to match everything as it 'should be'. But honestly, it's all about personal style and tastes, so wear your metals as you see fit.

This picture has been saved on my harddrive for several yrs. but it is still so relevant, imo. Also an interesting and inspirational example of mixed metals.

Yes I mix metals. Even in jewelry alone I'll mix if I please. I don't really believe in fashion rules. No white after labor day, no brown and black, no blue and brown, don't mix prints, no this no that.... Really there are exceptions to everything and rules are just limiting. I do think about what I wear before I put it on, but I take everything as a case-by-case situation and not by overgeneralized rules. That said I prefer silver to gold since it's better on my skin tone, but I'll mix if I have both and I like how it looks together.

exactly :D

It actually looks good, the combination in the photo. I have mixed metals but not on purpose, just during those times when I can't be bothered with changing my bag or whatever once I am headed out the door. But on a conscious level, I'm a little scared to be adventurous about it.

it depends.. if my outfit is minimalistic and maybe only one colour, then i do it, but if i mix alot, and there's several colours in my outfit, i only wear silver or gold, to balance the outfit out.

i agree with those who said it's a case by case decision....
and that subversive necklace is a good argument for how it can work and look great...
:flower:..

but all in all i have to say...
'not so much'...
^_^...

i have a pet peeve about wearing a silver necklace, and wearing a bag with gold hardware. especially when the pieces in case are bold and you can obviously tell one is gold and one is silver.

and i ahve so many great bags with gold hardware, and most of my accesories are silver, so i find myself fighting me to wear the same thing cause I cant see myself wearing two kinds of metal.
