Dries van Noten

Tourist, this dress is a keeper!
It's a timeless, "seasonless" staple, so versatile.
If you can afford it and know how to wear it with the rest of your wardrobe, keep it.

thanks for the input Aby and augustus!
augustus - what held you back? the price? or are you waiting to see what else comes in?

tourist, that is a really pretty dress. it has a bit of a festive bridal feel to it from the pictures. could it be you're still in a "blissful" state of mind :flower:...I think with the sash belt it will be a great event dress, the kind that is so understated and lovely people will notice your good taste and confidence. in other words, keep it for those times when you will need just that kind of dress. Dries just does this sort of concept so well, and really gets us...
is the dress from this spring season? the color is so subtle and quiet...love it.

laika, how cool your boyfriend gets your taste and buys you Dries pieces. can you reciprocate? does he like the men's collection at all? I like the mens t's quite a bit and hope to get my husband some when we get to the store.

aby, the top was so much better IRL...I agree. it just wasnt what I was looking for at this time. and with prices so high I need to find the perfect floral top for me, which will be "lighter".

^ is it really bridal?? Which is funny because I was planning on wearing it to several outdoor weddings this year. I do love the color, which I don't think looks quite right in the pictures, but it is subtle and unexpected for a dressier piece. It's one of the pieces from the early Spring delivery.

Luckyme, your Nordies will carry men's Dries??? :woot: My husband really likes the menswear, because it can be conservative with good fit and details. He has a couple pairs of pants, several button down shirts, 2 ties, and a jacket that work really well with his work wardrobe at a price he can stomach when found on sale (although he did just get the most beautiful Lanvin shirt, which on sale, was as expensive as a full priced Dries shirt, so perhaps I'm wearing him down ...).

Tourist, the dress would be great for weddings!
You could end up being prettier than the bride ;)

that's the Dries effect, prettiest girl in the room.

I have to wait until I get to paris to see the menswear collection. I'll be working on wearing him down pricewise until then. it's going to take months for that, and I still have doubts he'll splurge on clothes. he has no problem buying two new Macs for his office (just yesterday) but there is this wall he can't get over when it comes to spending on clothes. I'm hoping the paris store will sway him over.

thanks Aby and luckyme! I think I will keep it!

lucky - I'm not sure that the Paris Dries store carries menswear. At least it didn't when I was there last April. All the department stores should carry it though. But really, what I think you need to do for your husband is bring him to San Francisco during the sales. There's a store called Modern Appealing Clothing (MAC for short) that has great sales (50% off), and lots of things are still left by sale time. Unfortunately for us, Dries won't let them buy the womenswear, which really is too bad because they offer free alterations on full priced items.

I'm actually restraining myself to go at the boutique now as the sales don't start till Jan 9th.
But I might just go, take a look and "quizz" the sales persons about the discounts a few days before...:innocent:

^ Aby, are the sales good at the Dries store?? Do you know what % they take off?

Sorry, I don't know, it will be my first time this year I can afford to do more than browsing at his store !!
But if I get more info about discounts, I'll post it here!

Tourist, it's so bad because I keep thinking about the dress after you have posted your picture...Well, mainly the price(when I looked at it) and plus the fact that I don't have a use of it...even though it's so gorgeous in such a quietist way. *arghhhh* I am going to call and see if they still have this dress.

I did manage to look at many of the Spring 08 pieces from the Dries look book and placed my name on some of my favorite items. There is this white tunic that I love, as well as turquoise scarf....On a whole not as "floral" as the show, but again, quietness is what attracts me.

augustus, I think I know the white tunic you are talking about. I had it pre-ordered from the trunk show at barneys but didn't want to pre-pay (I have a problem with that concept)...so if I'm lucky enough to find it on the floor... I LOVED IT, def one of the better of the best pattern combos I've seen so far.

i love that dress tourist..
i like it with black opaque tights and blk shoes...
but that's just me...
:p

laika
- how about a pic of your new top?

:flower:

I bought a spring Dries dress that at the time I loved, but I think I need 2nd opinions because it was expensive (although livable). Sorry this is coming in multiple pictures, but it's basically a khaki/green, slightly more green than it appears in the pics, sheer silk sheath with silver, white, and clear beads that comes with a fabric belt. The lining is white with a band of grass green at the bottom. The shape is exactly like the runway dress I posted earlier, but I thought the solid color would have a longer lifespan in my closet. Should I keep it?

I seem to be in the minority, but I think if you're having doubts you should return it. The dress doesn't look very flattering (in my personal opinion), and I think if you truly liked the piece you wouldn't really consider taking it back in the first place. Just my two cents. ;)

softgrey - I like the styling suggestion. I had planned on wearing it with white heels, picking up the white beading, but black tights and shoes would make a good fall option.

seanutbutter - thanks for the honest opinion! I actually do love the dress. I was mainly having doubts b/c of the price, which doesn't always make sense for a dressier item that you won't wear often.

Perhaps I should post this is yay or nay instead, but I thought this thread was more directed.

OMG it's gorgeous tourist :crush: So wonderfully Deco, incredible details ... I feel like I could get drunk just looking at those pictures ...

PS Silver accessories w/b another option ... Today I'm wearing silver grey floral patterned tights that might be nice with it.

So I was at the Printemps and discount will be...50% on all the FW collection!! :woot:
I can't wait for wednesday morning, l plan to be there at 8 o'clock before going to work...:ninja:

Tourist, that dress is absolutely gorgeous. Beautifully crafted, the beading esp. I think it'd go well with dark, rich colors and blk., of course! Keep it! It needs a loving home.

white will be great for summer...i love white and olive...

but sometimes i like a little bit of dischord for some resonance....
if that makes any sense...
somehow i relate fashion to music in many ways in terms of harmonies etc...
and i always seem to be drawn to the minor keys ( you know, the dark ones)
:D
