Dries van Noten

I luve DvN stuff but I am kinda surprise that some of the clothes are made in Romania. I mean is it worth paying £700 for that? I thought most luxury should be made in Italy!!

well i mean it's more like a psychological thing, surely italy is famous for making a lot of luxury, detailed things.
but just because it is made in romania doesn't mean it's not good quality, the same applies to the products were made in china.
you'll be surprised that actually in these countries there are a lot of skilled labour who can do just as good as the italians, french, for a much lower wage.
in terms of business, it's definitely a good move.
but then it will lead us to the ethical issues for low cost labour...:flower:

thanks for the additional words of encouragement on the dress, wiw and tata! After being invited to yet more weddings (all different circles, it's the season, I guess), I have plenty of opportunities to wear the dress quite a bit this year.
tata - yes, I totally see the deco aspects too in the beading, I think that's why when I originally saw it, it reminded me of a flapper dress. I think silver would be great too! Too bad I don't own any silver shoes ...
wiw - I've been thinking how it would work with that kind of inky black ... not quite black not quite blue. What do you think?
softgrey - I love your analogy, it actually makes more sense ... elements that seem off at first but when they come together, there's harmony
aby - ooh, I am so jealous! Lucky you! You must post what you end up getting during the sales.
juicemajor - I agree with TeeKay that just b/c it's made in Romania doesn't mean the quality isn't good. I've generally experienced Dries quality to be very good considering the price. Perhaps brands like Lanvin are even better in terms of quality, but they are also much more expensive.

Tourist and Teekay, I totally agree with you both on your point. But I am just surprise to find that you actually thought I was comparing the labour skill between Romania and Italy.

It was more about doing it cheaperly and selling it pricey that I wasn't comfortable! Then again it's business.

I am just surprise to find that out myself. And to be honest, that particular coat I was looking at wasn't really that impressive in terms of quality, particularly the linings.

Anyway let's get back to fashion for fashion sake!!

:o Wow, more and more I hear shoppers talk about the lining inside clothing
Seems highly desirable ?
I don't see what's wrong with one without lining...

Yeah, I don't know but I have been strangely attached to the idea of silk lining when it comes to expensive coats.

Rather belatedly, but still want to share with you the new shoe love of my life...I have been practically wearing it everywhere and I am still in love!

I love your boots (because i have the same pair :D). They are so comfy, aren't they?

augustus- they do look great!

regarding lining-
for sure at least the sleeves should be lined in silk so that they coat/jkt slides on and off without getting stuck on whatever else you are wearing..
this detail makes an incredible difference...

the ease with which you can slide a coat on and off gives an incredible sense of luxury...

I get so excited when I see this has been bumped up. like a kid in a candy shop.

I finally got my yellow dries booties. They took USPS almost a month to just get across the lake from canada to cleveland. I think I would have rather drove and picked them up myself.

Anyway, they're gorgeous. I didnt try them on becuase I went to pick them up on break but I'm glad I went up a size becuase they definitely look small and narrow especially. I'm wearing them tonight with grey and purple. I love the detial of the sole coming up the heel.

thanks softgrey :p

Hm, I've never thought about that but what a good point! Now that I think about it, my better jackets/coats are all so easy to take on and off. The cheap ones not so much... I'm probably going to end up paying more attention to that now!

And Guessgirl, i'd love to see some pics of your new shoes! I'm a real dries shoes fanatic.

sorry to misunderstood:p
and yes, when it comes down to business, there are a lot of things that could be quite dodgey:unsure:

well let's hope that these people are getting paid for what they deserved for such beautiful craftsmanship:flower:

am I crazy (don't answer that) or do the recently uploaded pieces from the spring collection look totally unappealing?

^Is that Dries van Noten? It doesn't look like him at all!

right...? the thing is I saw samples of the runway collection and they were stellar.

if you're capable of exquisite that why release this? it just seems so clumsy and blah as a precursor to what he sent down the runway.

Luckyme, I saw those items too and thought the same.
Maybe Dries wanted to try something new but this fails to enchant me like most of his work.
