laika, I didn't see those tall boots on their website, there is no doubt gimmeshoes has a very impressive amount of dries shoes. I just took a look on monamoore again and did a double take on the zipper. I never noticed that before either. to me, it just makes the boot even more interesting and more dries-like.

I can't wait to see what he presents in october. I've started collecting the lookbooks they are so well made.

he he....
i guess i'm he only one who noticed the zip then?...
i noticed it right off the bat when lucky first pointed them out to me some time ago...

it put me off at first actually...
makes them less 'classic'...
but that is also a good thing and makes them 'cool'...

so in the end i decided it was a good thing...
^_^...

laika...
have you seen them anywhere?
does barney's have them?...
you really need to try them on...

:p

Tourist - I really love those black ankle boots you posted. What do you think of them? Are they very versatile going with different outfits? Are they well made and comfy? I loved these boots at first sight but they are quite expensive for a newly university student like me. Is it worth investing in, do you think?

I guess that's why you're in the biz, softie. ;)

I don't know why I didn't notice it before...it's pretty obvious in the mona moore picture. I guess I am just so conditioned to inside zippers. :p

Jeffrey has them for sure, so I guess I will go there to try them on.

:sick:Jeffrey......

store makes me homicidal....

^^i think my eye is just trained to look at pictures in lookbooks and on places like style.com, etc ...
plus- as you siad, i think it's fairly obvious in the mona moore pics and i am pretty sure that is where i first saw them...

jeffrey's!...
so odd for me to think of them carrying dries!...
i can't stand that store either!...
i actually forget that it even exists..
...

i don't even know if the yohji store opening in the meatpacking is going to be enough to draw me over there...
i'd still rather truck all the way uptown to barney's...
though my trips uptown are getting less and less frequent...
i guess IF doesn't do dries shoes?...
i don't remember ever seeing them there...

but otto tootsie plohound used to carry them...
do you know if they still do?...

doesn't it seem like a lot more stores are carrying dries and brands associated with this sort of 'style'...?
not in new york specifically, but just in general...?

OTP has nothing good anymore.....:(
except maybe Chie Mihara, and on one blessed occasion, Hussein Chalayan. :woot:

I should check Barney's though, they are sure to have some version. I am very lazy to go up there as well...at least before sales time. :p

yeah, Jeffrey is a miserable shopping destination. I actually went in to see what A.F. Vandevorst they bought--it was predictably insipid. I don't why they bother, really.

But softie, surely you come over here to go to comme and Margiela, no? :innocent:

They are soooo lovely at the Margiela store...it's a shame I don't buy much there.

I'm not sure about other stores...do you mean places carrying Dries and Marni? There seem to be many on the west coast and in Chicago, at least. I wonder where tourist shops...

laika - thanks for the picture of Dries the man! He is handsome indeed. I love the boot in black. Honestly, I don't even remember seeing it at the store ... only in burgundy, which is also very beautiful. I say it's a winner!

rollagasper - I really love them a lot, and I think they are very well made and comfortable. In terms of investment, I personally don't think an ankle boot is as good of an investment as a tall boot. And it is pricey, especially for a student (I finished grad school 3 years ago, so I can definitely relate). In the past, Gimme has had a really good selection of Dries on sale. Maybe you could wait until then? And sometimes I find, when I wait for something to go on sale, I end up not really wanting them as much. :flower:

softgrey - glad to hear you are keeping the Zara booties! those are really good. Here's a picture of the Dries from the side, they do appear to be the 3.5" version.

try living in connecticut, it dry up here for dries.

have you called butter?

I always thought that NY carried so many interesting brands!

There are a few stores in SF that carry a lot of good things, but I still find it really difficult to find some brands that I'm interested in, like Sacai and Tom Scott.

So there's Cielo, which carries a really good selection of Dries (clothes and shoes), Yohji, Ann D., Ann Valerie Hash. Cielo Blu that carries Y's, Vanessa Bruno, MM6. Susan, which carries a lot of brands including Marni, Comme, Junya, Lanvin, Balenciaga (this is where the really rich ladies shop). Nida, which carries a really good selection of Isabel Marant and Etoile Isabel Marant. MAC (Modern Appealing Clothing), that carries Margiela, Tsumori Chisato, lots of men's Dries. My new favorite, Cotton Sheep, which carries womens and baby clothes from Japan. And then the typical Union Square fare (I mainly go here for the department stores, GAP, H&M, etc).

Tourist - Thanks for your input. I'm actually very keen on investing in a pair of nice ankle boots because tall boots make my legs look short (i'm only 5' 1"). What is Gimme and where is it? Or is it an online store?

thought I might add some more to drool over. pics just sent to me from butter in brooklyn. all dries except the last 2 scarves, I forgot the name of the designer though. the blue one is my favorite. :flower:
